  1. Oh, that's not good. Someone posted a similar question on the other forum, and I was hoping it was just a lack of stock due to their Boxing Day sale. Website being down doesn't bode well though.
  2. Lethbridge is Mar 16-17.
  3. There is some decent info in the regs, thanks. It sounds like the once Lornce originally posted was an algorithm though. That might be easier to use, I'm guessing, especially for those new to the game.
  4. As this is a pinned post, would it be possible to get an update of the image? Photobucket 3rd party rears its head again.
  5. I wonder if the Scout Shop might have some... they very likely have seam sealer, which is also a Gear Aid product. In fact, I wonder if it is similar stuff just packaged differently. Perhaps the Aquaseal is a little thicker?
  6. On the weekend, my wife comes to me and says her car is making a knocking sound. She's worried something is wrong with her brakes and wants me to take it for a spin. I oblidge, and sure enough I hear the knock too... only happens when braking fairly hard, but doesn't sound like it is related to the brakes per se. I tell her it sounds like something is loose underneath, but when I crawled under I couldn't see anything with my untrained eye. I tell her to take it in to Toyota for them to have a look, and she does. For the record, it took a second mechanic to diagnose it... their laughter was payment rendered.
  7. Just heard there was damage to Allison with the fire that is happening in the Crowsnest Pass. The media report is somewhat vague, mentioning that "the local fish hatchery has been damaged". I had no idea the fire was that far north, as I thought it originated in the Sentinel Industrial area. Anyone else have any more definitive info than this? If it is shut down too things could get very interesting for the stocking program, in the South especially.
  8. You better... gotta protect that 68000 reputation score
  9. Check out their Facebook page for the pic of their tap handles... could there be any cooler way to pour a beer!!
  10. I meant to ask some questions about the impact of whirling on the stocking program when I was at Allison Creek just before the Labour Day weekend, but unfortunately no one was around at the time. They would have likely had some info too on the impact of the Bow refurbishment by that time, so unfortunate I wasn't a little more persistent in trying to find someone in the know. Looking at the October stocking report, they seem to be going great guns this fall; makes sense why now. Perhaps that's why we got some cutties in one of our local ponds for the first time I'm aware of.
  11. Tried it all, and nothing seemed to reveal where my slow leak is happening. I had previously repaired what looked like a flaw in the material, so put on ample Aquaseal over that area again. On Monday I did remain dry, but wasn't often in very deep water so not entirely sure if that solved it. I may have to wait until spring and deeper water to see if it really worked.
  12. In the midst of his pee jokes, Uber suggested I try the alcohol method too, though the question about them not being real Gore-Tex did come up. I will try it out and see if it works... worth a shot. Borrowing a leaf blower is my backup plan (who needs a leaf blower in Lethbridge... the leaves all end up in Coaldale eventually anyway).
  13. They are the Orvis Encounters. "Outer shell: 100% nylon. Laminate: 100% polyurethane. Liner: 100% nylon"
  14. What's the best way to locate a leak in the crotch area of your breathable waders? I've successfully done the inside-out/water thing for the legs, but think that would be a struggle to do well with the upper parts.
  15. I know several speak poorly of the recent batch of Korkers on here, but I did notice that the soles were on 40% off at Wholesale today... they had one of their boots on for 40% off as well, but very limited sizing available in Lethbridge. Rest of their boots are now 20% off (including Hodgmans I presume).
  16. Does anyone know what the platform used before was? Currently says Invision down below, so not sure if that was the case before. I actually prefer the new format, cause it works... whereas for the week or so leading up to the switchover, I wasn't able to access it at all from my home computer or tablet for some reason. The one thing I do like about the new forum is that it seems to reload the page when you pop back from a thread to the forum index page, showing what is read and isn't read; on the previous iteration you had to manually refetch the index page to see that. I can't remember exactly what the old, old version was like (before it became fly fusion) but this one seems closer to it. If memory serves you all complained about that new format when it switched over
  17. If you aren't opposed to buying something online, I'd recommend the Kold Kutters; they can be had on eBay for $20 US for a pack of 250.
  18. I recently bought some Redington Prowlers. I did a couple of outings without any studs, and found them also pretty lacking in traction, so loaded them up with Kold Kutters. I'm not sure you will find studs that won't mark to any extent. The in&out of boats thing sounds like a challenge if you are doing any combination of wading/floating... is that your scenario? I have a second set of cheapo non-studded boots I use for my float tube (which should last forever), but that might not be the solution for you.
  19. So using that logic, then this... Physicians, who largely exist to treat illness and injury have no business speaking to the public about promotion of health and wellness. Or how about Municipalities who are in the business of "selling" us water have no business promoting water conservation and pollution reduction... why would they care what happens downstream? If people (guides, shop owners, equipment manufacturers) who make their livelihood from the resource (fish and water) aren't interested in protection and stewardship of the resource, then who on earth would or should be?
  20. I would agree that the compulsion for guides to be stewards of the resource is significant. They should be promoting adherence to the regs, invasive species risk reduction, and good fish handling techniques. Part of their role is not only education on how to get fish into the boat, but also educating their clients to do their part to ensure those fish are there the next year when that client (and others) returns.
  21. Frogg Toggs? Their stuff seems priced well. I've only tried them on in store, but seem pretty well made. Haven't purchased one, so am limited on what I can give for testimonial.
  22. Maybe an opportunity for the Fishin Hole to expand to secondary markets like Lethbridge? There certainly is a ton of commercial space down here right now (and lots of eager college students looking for work), so am sure they could keep their overhead reasonable.
  23. While likely an important contributing factor, I don't think the big box brick&mortars was the whole story. I'm sure online shopping took a heavy toll as well. Guilty here. I've purchased several things online for tying in the past year from Cdn Llama, Flymart, and the Fishin' Hole. I've bought camping gear online from Amazon, MEC, & Live Out There. I imagine there is a robust online retailer group for hunting stuff as well. Wholesale's online business was decidedly lackluster (at least for fly fishing & camping gear); if I couldn't find it in store, I didn't ever find any broader selection online. As for supporting Canadian companies, if there was one in my town after December 28 with decent selection of tying materials, I'd happily do so.
  24. Yes you are correct. Jumping to the "deals" end of things is a little callous, so apologies for my part in that. The impact will be significant on those who have been loyal employs for a number of years... some great guys & gals at our local store. It really leaves a gap in the consumer market too, especially in places like Lethbridge where we have no other option for tying materials & fly gear locally. Will have to drive the 2+ hours to Calgary, or 1.5 to the Pass, unless something moves in to fill the void.
  25. Lukewarm deals at this stage. Tying stuff 10%, rods/reels 10%, boots/waders 10%, clothing 20-30%. The best deal I saw was fly line at 30%.
