  1. Check in the knives section of tool stores. My favorite tool for deer hair is an old electric moustache trimmer, works well and I use my rotary vise with it like a lathe.
  2. Can't look up the specs right now, but the President had a slightly larger reel capacity, so I went with the 5/6 for my 5 weight, no problems so far. The fishin hole and wholesale sports sell both models if you're looking to compare.
  3. The frag grenades would also be useful for taking out those pesky browns who break you off too!
  4. I remember a teacher in high school saying some of the older hospitals were built during the cold war, far enough away that they would survive if the big cities got nuked.
  5. Development of different industries and becoming a research, development, and technology center in the world is the only real way to continue to sustain the economy after the next 50 or 60 years. We can't compete in the manufacturing industries due to our cost of labour and declining population after the baby boomers start to retire, nor will Alberta go back to being agrarian - there's already too much technology to do the work for it to be a large employer. Of course, if someone happens to finally bring fusion energy to mass production, the traditional markets and all the towns it supports are screwed anyways.
  6. 6. Tie fly before wife finds out where her bobby pins went.
  7. -30....possible, but not likely but April is our snowiest month.
  8. Philly can't afford another expensive injury prone guy after overpaying Briere. Emery should be moved after all the flack caused by him in Ottawa.
  9. Panther's not open until June though (and you still stand a good chance of getting caught in a snowstorm).
  10. Skagit casting can have some different casts to it meant for pulling up sink tips - check out the Rio spey DVD if you have it or look up the circle spey and snap t casts, but the double spey remains the same. Beulah recommends a 500-550 grain skagit line for their 8/9 spey.
  11. I'd be interested, especially if we can go over some skagit stuff. It only took Brian a few minutes to sort out a couple problems I was having with a cast over at rickr's.
  12. Actually, I forgot my SH reel once on the Livingstone, ended up dapping dries and czech nymphing from shore to cutties with my 12'6 Deer Creek. Was almost unfair for the fish.
  13. You're nuts too now!
  14. And we'll be careful when posting about any new purchases you're trying to hide from the wife knowing she might be lurking here
  15. I'm planning on dropping by, let me know if you need anything.
  16. The Trion is the mid arbor design - if you're looking for the large arbor you'll be looking for their President model (a bit more expensive) or their entry level Summit. The Trion does have a bit more backing capacity than the other two for the same line rating.
  17. 1.5 hours is plenty of time to get warmed up on Bailey's and Tims.
  18. That's a #2, but anything from an 8 to a 2 works.
  19. Bow River Bugger first tied by Peter Chenier - I've caught rainbows up to 28 inches, bulls dart out of deep hiding spots, and browns chase this out of chocolate milk to my feet so it's one of the first ones I wanted to learn to tie. Tail - black marabou and blue holographic flashabou Body - variegated olive chenille, olive dyed grizzly hackle, and copper wire head - spun deer hair
  20. Never in the 15 years I've been fishing.
  21. Just a tip Dave Blair mentioned today when I picked one up at FT - he's seen the Airflo Trout polyleader series get snapped by the odd big fish since it is mono at the ends, and recommends going with the Salmon/steelhead ones which are 24lb test. Any general tips on what sink rates will be needed once the flows on the Bow rise in spring? I'm using 10 ft leaders on the skagit rod +5ft of tippet for streamers.
  22. Yes, they do, hence why Tanguay may be shopped around.
  23. The Beulah's are nice, have good lines made for them, and are going to be cheaper than the Sage or GA, but if money is no object its probably a toss up. If you plan on doing alot of speycasting, the hybrid styles may not be the best choice, however.
  24. My Deer Creek 5/6 was around $350 retail, no difference between the shops that carry it around town. Probably the lowest priced rod you're going to find, barring a sale or deal at the fly fishing show. If you're going to look for used, try asking in the forums at speypages.com or one of the other sites based in BC and the PNW. For reels, finding a pflueger president in 2012 is hard in western Canada. Wholesale stocks them, but has been out for a long time, but you might be able to find a summit or trion easier. I ordered out of the states, but it looks to be backordered down there too.
  25. I'm playing around with spinning too, and I find just a cheap disposable aluminum roaster pan the right size to catch everything.
