  1. Your comments are for the pesticides and herbicides debate thread, there isn't one, why dont you start it up and see what happens. Just saying. W'ere just looking after our yards in this thread. Its not an ugly topic, for the most part peoples yards bring them joy and happiness. Whatever you do in your yard is fine, it certainly isn't my business. I understand your comments. I will assume most adults know about herbicides and pesticides. I just dont think every thread on this site needs to end up in a pissing match. Peace
  2. I spray quack grass with round up because it kills/slows it down and if its just small patches your lawn will fill in around the dead spot I spray it to keep it from getting in my yard from my neighbours yard. Back yards got a bit, thats why I clean my mower before mowing the front. Its just a step to keep it from spreading.
  3. I have to. The quack grass in my backyard is rampant. I dont want it in my front yard, so I try hard. Re sodding doesnt get rid of quack grass unless you go down and strip like 4' of top soil just to get it all out. As previously stated, its a battle you wont win. Round Up everything, wait for it to die, strip it and come in with fresh sod this fall or next spring. That would be ideal but, within a few months you'll start to see the quack grass again. you just can't stop it. Its like Poa Annua on a golf course, you just cannot stop it. Try your hardest just to keep it out. If i could start my from scratch again I would. Theres no money left, thats a problem. My neighbours dont love their yards so my yards suffers for it. 2-4-d doesnt kill quack grass. its the same ingredient thats in Killex. Round Up kills quack grass but also everything else it touches. Round up is my favourite because there is no question, it kills everything
  4. @ BigFry. Please just ignore him. Your grass is not his problem or issue. The fact that it bothers him so much is pathetic. You can tell by his posts that its like fighting with your wife. Non winnable, dude does this for fun. Dont feed it. Check his last post out. Its actually your clover that has his vag all sandy lol!!! your just growing grass, he's the one taking offence to it. 99% of all people use fert and pesticides and in this thread he's basically called anyone who uses it an idiot! Thats a lot of people he's talking to. Just grow your grass and ignore this idiot. He's talking to himself and i'll bet he's pretty impressed lol!!!
  5. OMG, my neighbour used to look after his yard and then one year decided to quite. All he does is mows so he's a giant weed spreader, its awful, yards are attached. I swear he does it out of spite. Theres a spot down by the road that I literally hit with round up once a month just to keep his quack grass from coming into my yard. Its even worse than clover, you can't get rid of quack grass. THATS WHY YOU DONT USE THOSE GUYS THAT GO DOOR TO DOOR WITH THE AERATORS!!!!! You can get weeds under control but, quack/crab grass is the WORST!!!! My back yard is a lost cause, I dont even try anymore. It sucks because of my neighbours, both sides. They're way to busy washing their hummers and benz's grime and chemical filth into the river while complaining about people that spray weeds lol. Its like people that drink alcohol but, dont do drugs lolololololololololol. %$#@ I can feel the rage, anyways… I mow my front and backyard on different days and wash my mower severely before I do the front.
  6. let it happen and ignore bron. he prolly dont even have a yard lol. or maybe he's my neighbour, the clover farmer lol!!!
  7. Cool buddy!!! Im going to spray and fertilize right f'ing now!!
  8. 100 of fish dying off in K lake front page this AM. Think pits due to the rapid rise in water temp!!
  9. Wait until you see plants starting to grow out. dandies should be already, they go quick. Clovers a bitch! I wouldn't start spot spraying until you see death and are convinced you missed some stuff, it happens and a lot of weeds come up after you spray. Its really a battle we can't win If you cans see that you're clover is nice and green and thriving, hit it with a shot. With such a new lawn, your going to have weeds. eventually your grass should choke some out and with mowing and maintenance your lawn will be great. I dont think it needs to worry about being neglected lol. If you want to see a huge improvement, dont mow it for 5 days. You've been on it now just let it grow a bit. Its hard, I know but, plants need time to grow
  10. Easy man, 2-4-d is a plant steroid. the plants need time to out grow themselves. It will happen man, dont sweat it. Mow every 3 days and dont over water!!!! Give it a couple of weeks. You'll be amazed!! TP is good stuff man, thats why you can't go to the store and buy it! It'll work providing you mix it correctly. Clovers a nasty little sucker. You will never kill all of your weeds off, its a constant battle. Clovers a bitch!!! I can't stop it because my neighbour is one of those "natural" guys and his lawn is basically all clover and 100 other kinds of weeds, they just dont care what there yard looks like and it makes my yard look worse, its awful! IMO, if your yard is connected to someone else's yard, you're obligated to maintain yours. My neighbour does not, he's such a dick to boot. He's one of those americans that literally looks down on candadians and has zero friends on the street. He hates me because i got his kid into fly fishing and he's always over here talking to me and getting flies!!! Take your kid fishing bro!!! and mow your weeds while your at it!!!
  11. Last time I was there, the garbage bin was over flowing with spent needles I've never seen anything like that before in my life Its makes me sad that this is just, kinda the way things are now. Be careful where you step down there Anyways, I took my garbage home with me that day and would be hard pressed to go back down there. Its dangerous and I wouldn't want to be labelled as a complainer... good grief
  12. this pics are nothing compared to what I saw down there that day. actually was exactly like the pic just about 1000 more people and vehicles. brutal this is a boat launch, not a day use recreation area
  13. Def Cotoneaster, you can prune the crap out of these things, they love it. your lawn is brand new and you seeded it, imo, it looks pretty good. seeded lawns always take longer to thicken up. thats why sod is awesome. Leave the top dressing, no need to cover it up. Its there to level out your lawn and to give your new roots something to grown into. It, in time becomes part of your new soil profile. Thatch is good but can also be very bad. It will happen naturally so imo, I would bag my clippings as part of thatch control, eventually you'll end up aerating as a way to control your thatch. If to much thatch, your roots will always be shallow and weak. you want to your roots down into the soil so dont cover up that top dressing just let it be and let the grass grown into it. If thatch gets to thick and compact, it causes BLACK LAYER, which is an oxygen deprived layer in your soil where everythings dead, really stinks too. Nothing will grow there. see it lots on golf greens. Thats why we aerate. aeratings the multi tool. Mow, period! Mow lots!! Mowing promotes growth. Its what makes the grass spread out and thicken up. Everytime you cut it, it repairs itself by growing new shoots (produces the grass blades) and roots (they spread and produce new shoots). I would mow half the length off and then do it again in 3 days and again and again and again. That said, its gonna get hot in the next few days so you may want to do that today and then wait until its not 28 or 30. Or wait until the evening when it cools off a bit.
  14. @ bigfry. Just ignore this comment. Theres way more to it than us outdoorsmen and fishers just being stupid like he's implying, not trolling though.
  15. you might be able to get away with that in coaldale but, where I live, you need to take are of your yard. One of my neighbours called the police on another neighbour because his grass blades where to long. Its a thing, I asked him how he would even F'ing know that! One guy got a letter from the city stating that a neighbour had complained about his weeds and if he didn't deal with them, the city would show up and do it and then bill him!!!!
  16. I fertilize twice year. I hardly ever spray herbicide as I dont need to, I pull weeds as I see them and they've never really been out of control. That said, sometimes you need to you use them and I will if I have to. I'm more concerned about the non-fishers that live on my street, that wash all 4 of their hummers every single weekend of spring summer and fall. Not to mention, driving one of those multiple vehicles everyday also does its fair amount of damage
  17. lol, ants are an issue at my place. The stuff I use kills plants dead no matter what Ive tried it only seems to keep them at bay for a few days.
  18. Its all good man, love the post. what a difference a few weeks makes eh. Dont over water. If the ground is always saturated or wet the roots will be weak and shallow. Once you hit it with the TP, you'll be great. its early enough in the season where you should see some massive improvements by the fall.
  19. Radish anyone... started my first raised bed this spring. Ive never had a food garden before. Anyways.
  20. Heres a couple more
