    A Drive..

Did any of the deer still have their head gear on? Cool pics, and gotta love the awesomeness of the prairies!
  2. Have a good one Clive, Hopefully you got into some big girls (the fish kind) on your B-day!
  3. You need to move farther south in the province and you will exeperience 4 seasons and hurricanes force winds to boot all in one day........
  4. So when do we get the further details Andy? Still waiting to hear the method to your madness....
  5. Well their goes that stretch of hope. You'd think the oil would have thrown the game to spite their nemesis the flames. Oh well, maybe the Habs will make a run of it so I at least have someone to watch over the next little while....... Canucks didn't play to win and thats the price they pay. Maybe next year....or is it the year after that.......
  6. We've had quite a few birds come a slight bit early this year. Only waterfowl I haven't seen in abundance yet is mallards (not the resident ones) and scaup. Crows are already back as well as meadowlarks, Rough-legged hawks are moving back north as well and so on and so on. And to top it all off the horned larks are already incubating, found one nest already and the males are doing their aerial displays more frequently. Spring has sprung for those that missed it, it only gets better from here.
  7. They most certainly can drown the females, although usually she will give in before kicking the bucket (however as we all know some women are just stubborn....lol...jks). I've watched some rituals that lasted well over an hour and the poor female (redhead) could barely get out of the water by the end of it (and thats when the magic happens). No buying flowers or romancing in the duck world thats for sure.... A good spot to watch near town for breeding behaviour is down at Stirling in the next couple weeks!
  8. Thanks for the compliments Clive. Maybe I'll try to get a photo of one of waterfowls most romantic and sensual ritual . Of course I'm referring to the forced copulation ritual, which is quite energetic and exciting at the same time.........(boy am I glad I am not a female duck........ )
  9. Dave some things you catch down there don't just release themselves, they stick with you for a while......
  10. honest mistake, and as you can see by Clive's post, the older we get the more serious these mistakes get lol
  11. They've got a notice in the important changes pages, and the regs are spelled out under the lake listing. Are you looking in the right location?
  12. Amen to that Clive. Through all the bird surveys I've done, and even classes specific to waterfowl, I've never been taught this (although I could have been day dreaming at the time ). Get out and get your duck shots while they're hot the. the northern pintails are out in full force as well as wigeon's, goldeneye, redheads, etc..... Got to watch a few forced copulation rituals with some pintails, which is always good for weird and twisted entertainment. Took these just the other day not far from your neck of the woods.
  13. Having worked for Parks Canada in the past, those words couldn't be any truer......Gave me a good laugh.
  14. Ya learn something new every day......
  15. I'm going to guess a reflection in the water.....that or a goose that didn't quite get his diploma in proper flying
  16. This photo is from times past and Clive is trying to hold the lake for himself....lol Is it just me or has this global warming caused the longest ice stay ever....I haven't even made my leaky belly boat float yet for cripes sake
  17. Other than the fishing, I believe outhouses are the only luxury from what I remember.
  18. Not like I'll ever get the spelling of kookanusa right, but man are there some huge bulls in that lake as well as burbs....I believe squawfish, and we never encountered anything else. If you check the BC regs you should find all the species present, other than that I can't tell you any secrets, as more than one gun fight in town have happened over less. Lucky Lil's is probably the best casino in town and the busch beer is your cheapest! Congrats on being able to go to the sweet piece of heaven!
  19. Kippersnack, a little secret about that slough is that it is actually an international body of water (from what I can tell anyways). If you follow the cut line with the border markers there are areas that are under water on the Canadian side. That is not the primary source that I was thinking of though for pike transplants. I've never seen pike in that body of water, but it wouldn't surprise me. There are other fish in there though.....
  20. Anytime, Of course it would have to be in Lethbridge or Waterton as thats about the closest beer to ya!
  21. I suppose I could go digging through my freezer full of dead bats and birds and find the frozen rabbit pelts. I may have some time this week to salt them out and do a bit of fleshing. Maybe I'll make a trip in and fish NS and drop you off some fur. The deer fur can be brought in at that time too!!! Thread hijak over
  22. The small town I live in is over run with them, they just end up turning into zonker strips when they come on my property. European rabbits are also really good eating so......
  23. Monger, I have heard through the grapevine that a gentleman caught a pike about 3-4 years back or so. My guess if the claim was even valid (that the pike was caught at Police and not just transported there for show) than it was probably brought in by the bucket brigade. There is certainly potential (albeit extremely rare) that an avian predator could have lost his/her lunch so to speak in police. There are a couple spots with pike other than barrier within a close proximity to Police that could have been the source as well, but I'm not going to spill those beans at this time.....(maybe over a brew or two)
