  1. It's only a couple of hour hike UP but that's not bad. PM me if you want more information npauls.
  2. Probably an old topic and old news for most but I finally picked up Water Marks by Jim McLennan. Once again a great book. I love all his stuff. Just wanted to share.
  3. That's all I used to use but then I got a new vest and the spools didn't fit well but now I have a new vest again and I'm thinking of swithching back. Much cheaper.
  4. I've always been skeptical about them myself but a guy from work here uses one and tracks his success vs. the calendar and he swears by it. I don't really care cause it's not always about the catching for me as for the hiking and scenery but of course every bit of help is nice. Let me know if you try it out what your findings are. I'll do the same if I happen across one in line the next time I'm picking up some more gear.
  5. I've had success on BH Pheasant Tails, Griffith's Gnat and yes the old San Juan Worm.
  6. I heard if you run around in circles chanting "nah nah nah nah...nah nah nah nah...hey hey hey...goodbye" works. I tried it at home and my neigbors think I'm nuts. In all seriousness though I've tried a product called Skin So Soft or something like that from Avon and it worked 100%. Not sure if it's still around but it did work. I'm a deet guy and I am sure to keep it off my hands.
  7. Great stuff. Love the picture of the eagle!
  8. Cool system Kingfisher. Not sure how you keep it that way but very cool.
  9. Thanks LoneFisher. Those are cool links! Who woulda thunk it!?
  10. There is an Apple Glass by my work (no they don't sell ipods or macs) and I think it's $15-20 per chip. I have one as well I need to get fixed. It's on McLeod and 58th at the corner by Chinook Mall.
  11. Any of you guys have a portable gear bag for tying so you can pick and jet to a buddies house to tie a few? What do you use to keep things organized?
  12. I'm looking at doing some fly fishing in Mexico. May not be until November but I want to plan well ahead. I'm thinking of the Yucatan area (Cozumel probably). Anyone out there that has done this before and have some good suggestions? Anyone know of any guides to look at and consider? This also gives me a chance to get a salt water rig and then I can do some coastal fishing as well. Any excuse for more gear!
  13. Thanks everyone for all the input. I realy want one of those things on Cabela's. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet! But I went with the Equinox. It holds everything I need and then some and the water bladder feature will be well worth it. It also forced me to be more selective in what I actually NEED on the river instead of taking all the WANTS with me. Much lighter now.
  14. LOL! Naw the vest is for me dude. I don't like blenders. LOL!
  15. I'm looking at getting a William Joseph "vest" for an anniversary gift this year. Any body have some user experience on specific models? Any model to gravitate to or any to stay away from? I've definately decided to give up the classic vest.
  16. Opops. Didn't see the second page of post. Great work guys. I like to see the proactive action and CP cooperation.
  17. I'm no expert but I monitor the tracks here at my work. Nothing there is worth IMMEDIATE attention however definately needs some TLC in the near future, especially that last picture. I hope they look into it soon. Great post BTW.
  18. Check the regs. I think you may be ok year round. But check. I have a bad memory. I carry mine every where I go and check them like 10 times before I cast. Practice cast on the lawn or in a park. Don't need open water for that.
  19. He's holding my fish actually! LOL! Just kidding. At least he dropped my name. It's all about me. LOL! Once again just kidding. Way to go bud!
  20. I personally like the irfanview that Badger already mentioned. It has some really nice features.
  21. Glad to see I'm not the only one. That happened to me about 6 years ago. Maybe the same one, looks like it grew a bit.
  22. OK I currently use Rio Fluro tippet material. Works great, no complaints, except price. I've been recommended Climax and Umpqua. What is everyone else using and what do you think is the best bang for the buck?
  23. OK I don't think I saw this in any other post, sorry if I'm repeating. I'm no pro either but you mentioned you were out OVER the water what sounds like on a tree so I'm assuming you are standing up. You also mentioned the current was 1/3 of the main flow. Stealth my man. They could probably see you and your movements. Stealth is important to this sport as well as all the other great suggestions already mentioned. A fishes vision is up and at a very large angle, depending on depth, but you mentioned 10' of water so at that depth their range of vision is quite large. I've always noticed when fish are rising you need to be out of their vision to be more successful. This may require you to stand back or even kneel from the water's edge 10 -20 feet. It's still hard for me to do that cause you want to be close and in the water but it pays off. But hey keep it up. It took me an entire season to catch my first fish on a fly (on the Bow). I like the suggestions of trying smaller streams. It sure helped me and you can easily identify riffles, runs, holes, seams, etc. Time is running out for these streams though. Keep up the effort and keeping asking questions and you'll be posting in the "Ask the Pros" section. A lot of great advice on this site.
  24. What and how many? I should have ditched dinner for some fishing. But I haven't seen my mom for awhile so I made the right choice. I can still be envious though.
  25. I have a couple of boobies myself. The eyes are made with silver chain like from your sink or bathtub. They sink really fast, they are also weighted, and they work great on the Highwood in the deep pools. Basically jigging it in the slow slack water. Why I haven't used them this year is another question. Thanks for the post reminding me I have these.
