  1. Agreed....this guy is beyond moronic.
  2. Actually, you are not far off...the potential fines for releasing a non-native species into the wild are quite high.
  3. That is quite disturbing. Assuming that the fish originated from a food store and not an aquarium shop, live tilapia usually come in poorish condition, then sitting in the sales aquaria they succumb to a lot of diseases....released into local waters, they stand a pretty decent chance of introducing some nasty pathogens into the native fish populations.
  4. Come hang out with Hank on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HankPattersonYourF...ingGuide?ref=ts
  5. Now, now...lets not lose track of the thread....we know that they are not an FFC advertiser or contributor, so lets get back to making fun of the site and product...
  6. From the FAQ: "Can't I just use barbless fish hooks?" A. "Barbless fish hooks were created so that the fish could easily be removed from the hook, saving the fisherman hassle. Fish get infections from dirty hooks, not from easy hook removal. " Read carefully...what they are actually saying here is that fish do not get infections from easy hook removal....so therefore barbless hooks cause no infection. "The Harmless Hook fish hook will continue to help protect the fish from infection as it heals, and then dissolve." I would love to see how an internally imbedded hook will "...protect the fish...", and just how long it takes for a hook to dissolve inside a fish, assuming that the hook does not tear into some internal organ or other. Apparently barbs do not harm fish either.... These chaps really should have vetted their site far more carefully before putting it online.
  7. This guy is probably the top guide worldwide, and you should all heed his advice....remember to snap it! His Facebook page has some top-end posts, too.
  8. Ditto here. I have been fly-fishing for years, but my fiance has just recently started, and we would be happy to meet with any and all of you for some outings.
  9. Traveling down to Lethbridge for a wedding this weekend. It has been a while since I have been down that way, and would like to hit some water on the way home. Any suggestions on good spots around or on the way back to Calgary?
  10. I was looking for some about 2 weeks ago.....where did you find it?
  11. The nausea of seeing Italy beat Ireland has nearly put me off my dinner.
  12. For 20 years, my dream has been to take arapaima on the fly...these guys beat me to being the first, but I will do it: http://hatchesmagazine.com/blogs/Hatches/2...tm_content=post
  13. Correct. No...same superorder, but not even same order, much less family. Three stickleback species actually found in various bodies of water throughout the province.....fascinating little fish to keep...can imagine fishing for one, though.
  14. You catch one of those on a fly, and you will be legend.
  15. Burbot, but again,, it would be a small miracle to catch one on the fly. Golden trout. Over the past few years, I have managed: Brown trout Rainbow trout Rocky Mountain Whitefish Pike Grayling Brook Trout Bull Trout Cutthroat Walleye Sauger Goldeye Lake trout Perch Sturgeon Burbot (not on the fly) I still need Mooneye and golden trout
  16. Who carries those Eumer cones locally?
  17. Saw some 112.9 in Calgary, and with oil prices dropping, I suspect that we could see even as low as 105.9
  18. I use those in all my table lamps, and in my dining-room light (particularly since the dining table doubles as my tying bench right now)....best damned spectrum.
  19. Otts are pretty good...and occasionally, Michaels even has a full 50% off a single item.
  20. What features are you looking for? Pedestal, clamp, or vise-attached? Magnifier or none? LED or fluorescent? Warm or cool light? Just some light, or really bright?
  21. My fiancee will be there...she is very excited.
  22. I tend to agree...my next vest will very likely be this one: http://www.fishpondusa.com/gorerange.cfm
  23. I have recently discovered and fallen in love with this form, and although I have not actually purchased a rod yet, I know that I will be mixing my regular fly-fishing with Tenkara (and likely spey)....I have even started tying Tenkara kebari. Is anyone else here into this style? Any suggestions on best places to get a rod and line? I have been looking at tenkarausa.com, but if anyone is familiar with anywhere local-ish, I am interested.
