  1. Very nice...the closest I came to fishing yesterday was complaining about the crazy weather shifts with the Fish Tales staff, lol.
  2. Fish Tales and The Fishin Hole are where I buy most of mine locally....good selection and prices.
  3. I did not buy any, but I know that a couple of the sellers were offering 20%-30% off some rods, so pretty decent discount. The New Jersey show http://flyfishingshow.com/Somerset__NJ.html is supposed to be the biggest, but it runs the same dates as ours....a reasonable consolation if you happen to be stuck out east at the end of January, I suppose.
  4. The fishermen down there will tell you that they would rather fall in with a bunch of sharks than during a humboldt feeding time.....those things are voracious, and can bite chunks the size of an apple out of you.
  5. I was wondering on those....anyone with experience with the SeaEagle framless models?
  6. As have I since '95, but the old-fashioned in me still likes my land-line to work when the power is out (perhaps I have run down my mobile charge and need to make a call?).
  7. My mother has Primus, and based on her experiences, I would avoid them like the plague. Obviously, internet-based phones do not work if the internet or power is out (and remember, only corded phones work in a power-outage), and I have a number of friends that left Shaw over outage issues in the past 2 years. I have Telus, but I only very rarely use my land-line, but have no complaints. My office uses RingCentral (I am not sure if they provide home lines), and they are quite terrible.
  8. No, Calgary EMS does not have the technology to locate your cel....your provider does have the ability to triangulate, but it is not always crazy accurate, and it takes quite a long while for EMS to contact them request the info, and get it back.
  9. The one rod sock shows "Liverpool" on it, which is a start...I would normally expect a cane rod out of Liverpool to be a Forshaws, but this one does not appear to be.
  10. Again, triangulation is only so accurate, and becomes less so if the number of local towers is less. I believe that is was Bruce Burrell who mentioned it.
  11. Not according to the head of the EMT in Calgary. Which sounds great, although "x amount of meters could be a 100 x 100 meter grid...that is a big area when every second counts.....especially if you are all alone, having a heart attack in your basement family room.
  12. I would stay within those. I got a Hardy UL DD for Xmas, and love it.
  13. The issue is not the phones, but the emergency services....Calgary emergency services does not have the tech to locate calls coming from cells, and according to them, likely will not for another 3+ years. Although your mobile service provider can locate your cell, it takes time to contact the provider, and then to get them to locate the phone....which is just fine if your 911 call can wait 10+ minutes.
  14. 911 is an issue, as currently Calgary emergency services has no way to locate a call placed via internet or mobile phone....I keep a bare-bones Telus land line for emergencies (remember that if the power is out, so is your internet and magic-jack), 911 calls, and sending faxes, but use my mobile for everything else. I have unlimeted North-American wide calling on my mobile, and use a calling card for everywhere else (very cheap), or Skype.
  15. Ah, the Planet Ocean...very nice! I once had a 50th anniversary edition, but sadly, like every watch worth more than $500 that I have ever owned, I lost it.
  16. Plumes are about 10"-12" each.
  17. A shiny new Samsung Galaxy SIII, some very nice threads, and this bad boy.....
  18. Just picked up a cat toy at the Global Pet store on Northmount and 14th NW, mine had 5 ostrich plumes, but others have a mix of ostrich and pheasant tails....cost was $5.99, but 20% off until Jan 1, so $4.79...decent buy for the feathers.
  19. Correct and correct, based on what I was told by students and seen them with in their courses this past summer. I would combine this with some other small item, like a hat for a nice little Xmas pressie.
  20. Not cheap, but for a backlit 55" LED, it is impossible to beat the Sony Bravia XBR-55HX929.....absolutely amazing set.
  21. I like the clear, double-lidded type boxes....the hackles are safe on my dries, and I can see into my boxes without opening them.
