  1. For this challenge there are 3 mandatory materials: foam, peacock herl and a synthetic dubbing note : you can use packaging foam if you don't have regular tying foam....it' can create some interesting results and usually colours well with markers. Deadline: Fri. Dec. 5 9PM Looking forward to seeing the results
  2. Last day today for this challenge.
  3. Speaking still having it at 70 ; I saw the other night on some show that Tina Turner is still putting on shows at 69 and still looks pretty good.
  4. Merci beaucoup Darren. Tomorrow I'll post the guidelines for our 2nd challenge, I think this will bring out some interesting results so stay tuned.
  5. I was wondering if there is anyone who ties spey flies out there that might be interested in having a little get together to exchange ideas on tying these flies. If there is enough interest I'll look into finding somewhere where we can assemble. If this does occur it wouldn't be till after the new year. Looking for experienced tyers to begin with and depending on the number of experienced tyers there are it would open up to newbies in future.
  6. You probably need to reset your time in your personal settings.....check for DST adjustment setting
  7. Another variation:
  8. Here's a Sparrow variation: Hook: Mustad 9742 Tail: aftershaft fibers Body: sowbug dubbing Rib: 4lb mono Hackle: hen pheasant Collar: pheasant rump aftershaft
  9. True but that's not what I want them for....I want them as holders for a fly display stand I want to make.
  10. The entries look good so far guys, hopefully we'll see a few more before the deadline. I still have to photograph mine yet
  11. I'm looking to get some clips similar to the ones pictured below. I know the Source/Radio Shack used to have these but I haven't been able to find any of late. If anyone knows where one could get some of these preferrably locally it would be greatly appreciated.
  12. On the male side it would a toss up between Sean Connery and Anthony Hopkins; as for female actresses not many I really like except for maybe Kathy Bates as she has done some great work in a couple of Stephen King based movies.
  13. Looks tasty Max.
  14. I assumed that you would realize that you can use more materials than just the aftershaft feather and dubbing; the dubbing may be dyed. I was asked these questions via Pm and I'm clarifying it here.
  15. Being that the grizzly bear population is rapidly declining here in Alberta and it seems that our provincial government doesn't seem to care about bears or any other wildlife for that matter I was introduced to this group trying to make a difference for the bears. If this type of thing interests you check out this link: http://actiongrizzlybear.ca/ Hopefully this will help the cause as I believe that what helps grizzlies helps us all in some way or another.
  16. Ideally it should be both but it can be either, if you are happy with the results you achieve then the goal of this exercise has been accomplished. "Thinking outside the box" so to speak is the real goal here; trying different things.....who knows you may even develop your own hot go to fly.
  17. You'll find these feathers on the body feathers of most birds, even hackle saddles and necks
  18. Thanks LK for posting the picture.......I had to find one first but you beat me to it
  19. For the first challenge we'll start with 2 mandatory materials. The fly can be any style you like dry, nymph, emerger etc. The mandatory materials will be philoplume/aftershaft feathers (feathers from behind the base of larger feathers) and natural dubbing- non synthetic. Deadline will be Fri. Nov. 28 @9PM Just photograph and post your creation to this thread to enter. This is not a contest but a method to exchange ideas.
  20. We'll give it a trial run and see where it leads. I'll start a new thread with details
  21. I say neither......it'll be a Timmies in hand LOL
  22. I don't think there is really nothing you can do from what you described unless he is getting paid for the shots and they are published....in that case if the person/persons are recognizable he/she would then need a model release for the photos in question. I do a fair amount of candid street photography and have never had a problem and even have had the police inquire as to what I was doing without incident.
  23. Might be too late but check the FishTales, Country Pleasures and Bow River Troutfitters sites to check. You might try West Winds Fly Shop;s site as well.
  24. In my opinion you really don't need much of a head on a dry in most cases......just the usual 4 or 5 turn whip finish is adequate
