  1. You are definately in the minority of gun owners to think the registry is not a "big deal" How about lets start with the fact that there is more handgun crime from illegal handguns in Canada since the introduction of Bill C68. Something that bill C68 does not, and was not introduced to deal with; gun crime. Lets start with tougher laws for the hooligans toting illegal guns that are pimping and selling drugs, etc... Sheesh you cannot use your .45 ACP anywhere but an approved target range. Why even own it? Create enough red tape then there will not be as many registered guns to confiscate when the powers that be decide that for you. I bet the criminals that take the time to vote, vote Liberal or NDP, especially after this...
  2. Spend a few minutes researching what Calgary Chief of Police Rick Hanson has said "on the record" numerous times about the registry. This may help you understand what all the "hubub" is about on this topic.
  3. Simply put; no it is not time!
  4. Don't ya hate it when logic and fact gets in the way of a good story? Sundance- you applying for a job with the CBC as a reporter? You are putting as much bias into your reporting as they do..
  5. Can you back this statement up with some fact? How about you post the link. LOL!
  6. I think most of us have cable, internet and read the papers too. Anyhow, thanks for the link(s)
  7. This is quite the assumption you are jumping to. Why the fear mongering? Same can be said about most cities anywhere in the world, depending on which side of the tracks you care to venture.
  8. Very well said. what it comes down to is that with the exception of beets, potatoes, carrots (root vegetables) there is not much local produce around the Calgary area. Gotta love all the Politically correct shoppers with their cotton bags at the Farmers market that drive big friggin SUV's and live in monster homes. Mostly the upper crust crowd that shop there as a regular joe cannot afford it.
  9. Many years ago I ate Permit when in the Keys, excellent fish. Why shouly Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit have a zero bag limit? I can understand better protection, reduced bag limits, special seasons, but a zero bag limit just because it is considered a "sport fish" makes no sense.
  10. At this point the only thing that will renew my interest in the Flames is an article that outlines how ALL the Sutters have been punted..
  11. Don, Excuse my ignorance of current OHV laws; is it illegal to drive a OHV up a creek or stream? If we currently have laws that address obvious abuse of the environment then enforcement is the issue. If there are big holes in the legislation then a framework needs to be addressed that fill these holes, laws put in place then proper enforcement. My point to all this is banning is not the solution. If OHV users are considered consumptive users of a resource as hunters and fishers are then banning an activity because of lacklustre laws, or lack of enforcement is just the thin edge of the wedge. The sad reality is we live in one of the most prosperous jurisdictions in the world, yet we struggle to properly fund the enforcement of our fish, wildlife and natural areas; all held within the public trust, it is ours!!! Our current Provincial Government is failing us, this is the problem- not rogue quadders.
  12. Generally this is not the case with waders. ^^^ I pissed around for years with different brands thinking that Simms are way overpriced. I would hazard a guess that anyone who has shelled out for Simms has no buyers regret... The only other waders I would own would be wardell as they are repaired right here in Calgary, a big bonus. Oh ya- I have owned Dan Bailey, Cloudveil, Bare, Springbrook, and now finally Simms.
  13. Sorry Don but I have to disagree. When you look at the LONG TERM "mess" left behind there is no comparison. We already have laws on the books to deal with quads, the problem is enforcement, or lack there of. Without enforcement there are no rules or laws. I wish I knew how to post a google earth link? If you look at the area starting just west of Caroline and zoom up and down the Eastern Slopes the land looks like it has a bad disease from all of the clearing for Oil and Gas batteries, and roads that lead to them, all along creeks and rivers as well. There are areas west of Sundre where the logging is clear cut and right up to the banks of the Red Deer river. How one can even compare this damage and that that some rogue quadders create is beyond me? Alberta's long term financial sustainabilitry is based on the O&G industry, but to blame the quadders for the environmental damage that is going on in Alberta's wild places is a case of the foxes guarding the hen house. If the solution to dealing with rogue quadders is to ban them then we should be careful with what we wish for. Poaching is also a big problem, because of a few bad apples and compounded by a lack of enforcement. Kinda parallel isn't it...
  14. Pony up for the Simms.
  15. Why does this get all the attention from outdoorsmen when Big Oil, Gas, and Forestry roll right along? I am sure the Government is all but willing to let the perceived problem get diverted to OHV use, I am sure that said industries appreciate the diversion. I do not want to debate the merits of controlling OHV's as I believe they should be severely restricted or banned in some areas that currently allow them. But c'mon, there is so much damage to our wild areas from industry, really no comparison.
  16. Definately right. I am glad to see that Fly Fusion is progressive enough to show a same sex couple on a fishing trip; nonetheless on the cover!
  17. I charge out $500 day, have a full slate of bookings and no empty days. I am not a guide......
  18. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?...mp;#entry101764 Actually the problem for the original poster and anyone else who thinks the price of a walk and wade guided trip for one person is excessive is ... I have a choice ... take one guy on a walk and wade for $300 or $350 or whatever ... or ... one or two guys on a float for $500. Essentially, for those guides who have a full schedule, it's $300 for a day of work or $500. I don't care if the trip is for one or two guys, a float or a walk and wade ... the price is $500. I'm not going to book a one person walk and wader for anything less because I have a full slate of bookings and don't have to sell my services for less to fill empty days ... I don't have any. If you want to book my services for a day of fishing at my going rate, great! If you don't want to book my services for a day of fishing at my going rate, that's fine too because I'll be booked with someone else. There's no waiting around hoping someone will book a trip with me. Most of the time it's a juggling act fitting everyone in. Looking back I guess what I assumed was true. Hey no biggie at all, but you certainly cast the first stone, for what and why I have no idea? Guides are a great conduit to get new people into the sport through corporate trips and such. Lets get back to reality, unless you are retired and your mission is to introduce people to flyfishing, guiding would be the only way to do it with 50 people in a season- err..47. And to keep track, 47? the only way would be to look back through your booking records and count. Oh and to get things back on track; I take out newbies, talk to fellow fishermen and offer all I know..
  19. Well good for you then IF you are not a guide and can chalk up your near 50 newbies this year. I don't get out 50 times a year, let alone take 50 people out that have never flyfished, however I do take out a few every season that have never cast a fly rod. Oh ya- lighten up a bit, my assumption is one that many would make, and probably did with your claim. You are an anonymous user on the internet, I just made a guess based on your unsubstantiated claim..
  20. With introducing near 50 beginner flyfishers to the sport, I have to come to the conclusion you are a guide?
  21. Just read that registration of pleasure craft is voluntary?
  22. If they were outside of BNP they were legal. If they did not have visible Reg# on their boat that is illegal, but very rarely enforced.
  23. You have to question the data that is put out by fisheries managers/biologists. Last year we are told that the sockeye is on its way to vanishing, and this year is the strongest run in 100 years? Pretty extreme variance within 1 year, wouldn't you say?
