I also use a 12 pound mushroom shaped anchor. The 20 and 30 pound anchors are for drift boats as you said. The air pump I use has a built in regulator and a two stage compressor in it, it runs on 12 volts and you just set the pressure you want, turn it on and forget it. It will turn off when the desired pressure is reached. The length of rope will be determined by the depth of water you are in. I find on the river 15 ft is plenty. You don't want to anchor in the fast moving water anyway but the anchor will hold better if you let out a little bit of rope. Managing all that rope is another story. I generally just stuff it in one of the storage pouches on the pontoon, carefully though so as not to create knots. Although I do use the anchor occasionally on the river, it's not often. Most often, I will simply pull the boat up on to the shore. When I fish lakes out of the pontoon, I seldom fish in deep water. An anchor is beneficial so I have used one but I think if you had 30 ft. of rope that would cover most situations. Lots of guys will anchor the boat with two anchors. One off the bow and one off the stern. Murray

A month ago, I picked up a Lamson Konica 8 wt reel at Bass Pro in the States. Paid $169.00 US. It balances with the 8 wt rod nicely. Murray

My suggestion is that if you already have a 6 weight, you should consider the 8 weight. no need to simply step up 1 line weight in size. if you currently use a 5 weight, go for the 7. it will work for any fishing around here. if the long range plan involves Salmon or Steelhead, I have no experience with either of them so someone else can comment on the use of an 8 weight for those two species. murray

i tend to not use a bead because the wire wrapped hook is heavy enough to get my rig on the bottom as it is. I dont like adding split shot a couple of feet above the top hook either as I find that it creates a second hinge point and is a recipie for tangles in your leader. I do understand that if you use 2 or 3 small nymphs( size 16 0r 14) that you need the extra weight to get your hooks down though. I think I'll give it a try at bending the hook point slightly sideways though. Thanks for the tip Peter. Murray

That's a good point about the hook doing further damage to the fish. Peter, do you find that bending the hook poin sideways is effective? I find that reducing the size of the hook to a size 8 or 10 reduces the collateral damage. I'm certainly open to suggestions though. Murray

I like a size 8 Mustad 37160 wrapped with red wire. It is primarily used for weight to get the entire rig down near the bottom but it catches fish as well. Murray

Glamorgan is a nice area for sure. Your right, it would be relatively quick to head west although Highway 8 is getting a reputation for being a dangerous stretch of road. Very busy on rush hour traffic along with lots of truck traffic. I don't have any experience fishing out that way but have you considered the Blue Ribbon Bow? Most of the communities in the south offer excellent commute times to several walk and wade opportunities along the river. Fish Creek Park is a very popular recreation area that would mean a 15 minute drive south of Glenmore Trail. Lots of nice communities along the river, ie: Riverbend,bonavista, Deer Run, Sundance,Midnapore, Cranston etc. you probably already know but be prepared for higher prices than you are used to. There are lots to choose from. Try a Prince Nymph, Evil Weevil, Phesant Tail,Bow River Bugger,Wooly Buggers, various midges, Copper John,stone fly nymphs and drys,elk hair caddis,stimulators,grasshoppers,ants. Murray

Steve, I use the Korker boot, have for years. You'll get lots of opinions on this and for the most part, it will reflect what the individuals use themselves. As for the type of soles, I started with the felts as I felt that they gave me the best grip. Last winter Iswitched over to the studded rubber soles and haven't gone back. The grip you get is excellant. I do go back to the felt soles when I am on my pontoon or other boats, the studs rais hell onthe floorboards and most guys won't let you ne3 their boat with studs on, rightly so in my opinion. The studs really help on the ice shelves. Murray
