  1. So a few weeks back I got a phone call from my wife that she was just rear-ended by a guy, and then when she pulled over to exchange information the guy just drove away! Fortunately, she wasn't hurt and there wasn't too much damage, so she was able to jump back in the van call 9-1-1, and then catch up with the guy and get his license plate #. She then drove home and waited for the police to arrive. Officer shows up and takes her statement, then she goes back to her cruiser and found all the information about the guy from his license plate. Turns out he lives 2 blocks away from us. So the officer drives over to his place and gets his insurance info and writes him a ticket, then comes back and gives us the information. My wife contacted our insurance company and started a claim. She was told that we could do one of two things: 1. Go and get the damage fixed, pay for it ourselves, and then we'd be reimbursed once it went through insurance, or 2. Wait for this guy to make a statement to his insurance company, and then once that all goes through, go and get the damage fixed on his insurance companies dime. BUT, "he has up to one year". Is this normal? I'm waiting for our insurance agent to call me back as we speak, but i'm wondering why we have to wait for this guy to make a statement. He rear-ended my wife, and then left the scene, and was subsequently found and charged by the police within ~1 hour. Is the fact that he was charged not enough to prove fault? Or is it something else that we're waiting for... doesn't make much sense to me.
  2. Hey all, Just wondering if you know if any reputable places in Calgary to have remote starters installed? The only place I know of that I've heard good things about is Quinn Security.. but I think they're pretty pricey too. Any recommendations?
  3. I wonder how the heck he managed to get it that far out into the water?
  4. Smid interview today on TSN's website.. he says: "I asked him if he wanted to go and he said 'next shift', so I kinda half turned away and then he went after me. Kind of a cheap play, but I should be smarter than that..."
  5. Oh if only driving in a big city were that simple! You mean.. enough room for some yahoo to cut in front of you and hit the brakes? The difference between All Seasons and Winters is night and day - 4x4 or not. 4x4 may handle better with All Seasons that a 2 wheel drive with All Seasons (or winters). But with winters, it will handle even better still. Driving habits are a big factor, but there's some science involved too. All Seasons get hard and lose their 'stickyness' at something like 7 degrees C. Winters keep their stickyness below -10C. Here's a few cool videos:
  6. Giovanne, I have a feeling you may not have seen the same video clip as some of the rest of us. I've seen two different clips of this incident. The one on TSN where the camera man is mostly following the play, and then switches back to Smid and Avery after the punch.. Avery is already on top of Smid. They then show the reply where you only see maybe 2-3 seconds before Avery punches him. *edit* This one: Starts at about 1:15.. There's a second clip from a different camera angle where you see it from start to finish. Smid challenges Avery a few times and Avery seems uninterested. He looks back at the play a few times and then just when Smid figures he's not going to fight, Avery renegs and rushes him. *edit* Here: Starts at about 1:12.. IMO.. these 2 videos give 2 completely different perspectives... and I have a feeling those that don't think it was a sucker punch have only seen the first clip. It's simple.. if you're going to fight, don't pretend like you're NOT going to fight and then all of a sudden rush the guy. It's cowardly, and yes, most of us consider it a sucker punch. I have a feeling that most guys who have actually played the game at a 'high level' (I'm not one of them) would consider this a sucker punch.. and gutless. Would like to hear "Wanny's" opinion on this one actually..
  7. While you're doing that.. please ask the GM's in Los Angeles and Dallas too. Sather is not highly regarded around the league for making smart moves. You can be looking at a guy and still get sucker punched. When you ask a guy if he wants to fight a few times and he says NO, why would you expect him to suddenly lunge at you at punch you in the mouth?! I agree that Smid should've been paying more attention, but it was definitely a sucker punch. One of his own teammates said that for crying out loud! Avery is talented and fills a role, no doubt. However the problem with him is that he often takes it too far. There's a reason why the majority of the PLAYERS (including teammates) can't stand him.. and always make reference to "the code" when talking about him. Waving your stick in front of a goalies face (to the point where the NHL has to make a new rule in your name), referring to another players girlfriend as "sloppy seconds", saying NO you're not going to fight a guy and then punching him in the mouth. Come on guy.. Anyways.. bottom line is the next guy won't make the same mistake. Take the 2 minutes for instigation and pound the tar outta the guy. The rest of the players will love you for it.
  8. Well that was a lovely 1 hour drive to work today!! Usually it takes me 12-14 minutes.. Radio was saying that some people's drives have been 2 hours +!
  9. Yep! http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/stor...stormwatch_city
  10. Sad part is Edmonton doesn't play them again this year.. so no revenge for them. BUT.. you never know.. maybe Smid is buddies with someone on one of the other teams Avery has to play still. Avery is the kind of guy that should have gotten that butt end that Brent Burns dished out the other night.
  11. Agreed. Not one single ounce of class in that guy.
  12. Wife and I just got back from the theatre. Very possibly the worst movie ever made!! Not an exaggeration. Wish I had checked Rotten Tomatoes before we went! *sigh* And here!
  13. Thanks for jinxing us Terry!! 2nd intermission... 5-0 for Carolina.
  14. Wow. That's a whole new level of ignorant! Sorry to hear that Dune! Hopefully everything goes smooth with the warranty and payment...
  15. Good job Trailhead! Every little bit counts.
  16. Hi, This Movember, the month formerly known as November I’ve decided to donate my face to raising awareness about prostate cancer as part of "Team Movergint". My donation and commitment is the growth of a moustache for the entire month of Movember, which I know will generate conversation, controversy and laughter. I’m doing this because 4,400 men die of prostate cancer in Canada each year and one in six men will be diagnosed during his lifetime. This is a cause that I feel passionately about and I’m asking you to support my efforts by making a donation to Prostate Cancer Canada. In just 11 years since I've moved to Calgary I've lost one close friend and one family member to cancer. Recently we also found out that our friends 3 year old daughter has a form of Leukemia. Not prostrate cancer, but this still hits close to home! To help, you can either: * Click this link http://ca.movember.com/mospace/918464/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account * Write a cheque payable to Prostate Cancer Canada, referencing my name or Registration Number 918464 and mailing it to: Prostate Cancer Canada, Suite 306 145 Front Street East, Toronto, ON M5A 1E3, Canada. All donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. For more details on how the funds raised from previous campaigns have been used and the impact Movember is having please visit: http://ca.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs. Thank you in advance for helping me (and Troutlover!) to support men’s health. Pictures to follow...
