  1. Ya for sure all tie up 2 dozen for this great cause. Lets get a plan going so we can tie her up a nice box of flies.

    South West Fishing

I agree 100% with what your saying Hawg I haven't fished in Alberta in about 12 years and the fishing is piss poor up on the North Ram compared to what it was. I use to be able to go out there any day of the week and catch 25 cutts over 20 inches and 50 under 16 inches and that was about an average day. A good day would easily see you over 100 fish. Now in 3 days straight a couple weeks ago between 2 of us we caught about 40 cutts none over 17 or 18 inches. They just aren't there like they use to be and anyone who says they are just wasn't fishing Alberta 15 to 20 years ago.
  3. Thanks guys. I had to look over the top of my glasses at the bottom of the page to see how old I am. Is it normal to lose your eye sight and memory when you hit mid forty
  4. If your going to start running 3 nymphs, when you cast watch for all 3 nymphs to lay out and plop into the water. You can see it most times if your watching for it. If you don't see that or all you see is one splash, stop casting and check your nymphs. Its very easy to get tangles and you will foul hook more fish. Personally I've stopped running 3 nymphs. If your putting your nymphs in front of fIsh 3 isn't going to do anything 2 wont. Sure it increases your odds of catching a fish, also increases the chances of the bad too. Good luck
  5. Dam learn something new every time I come here. Looks like you guys had some grand trips this summer. Thanks for sharing
  6. Yup there tripliods. Genetic freaks of nature, tampered by the hand of man. Awesome fish no doubt but shouldn't count as a world record. Ive read about rainbows raised in the lab that exceeded 100 pounds.
  7. Nice Terrance. Can't really see much detail in the rough neck shot. I've seen a few 4x4 trucks stuck in the middle of the Red Deer where people where stupid enough to think they could drive around. Not sure what they where doing besides being stupid as the other side had banks 75 feet high.
  8. One big trout no doubt about it. I think they should have special records for test tube trout. Only a true natural wild trout should count as a world record.
  9. Unreal Steve looks like a great trip . Beautiful fish, unbelievable setting. Ive always wanted to see what medicine lake looks like when it drains and have never made it up there.
  10. Ya thats a tough lesson to learn and one I did myself once. Thank god it wasn't my sage and was just some cheap rod I had at the time.
  11. Happy birthday Rehsifylf & Hack. Have a great day
  12. There you go Bandee. Thats on 3X I could have pulled in quite a bit more yarn than i did. You would be using it higher up on your leader where its thicker and a lot easier to get it to stay in place, takes a bit of trial and error to get it right. Once you get a feel for it though its pretty handy. Nice thing too it doesn't kink your leader up and very easy to adjust and take on and off. Forgot to add its a heck of a lot cheaper than buying indicators and you can use many different types of tubing. Goose quill even if you like the natural matierial.
  13. What was the temp Rick? When I was out on the Ram in the morning it was about 48 F and by the afternoon it was up around 53 to 54 which you would think is about perfect.
  14. If you used a bigger sized tube you could make it hold up quite a bit of weight. If you keep your yarn in a film container or something like that, soaking in floatant that helps too. I have stopped using 3 flies because I tend to foul hook too many fish. But I haven't had a problem fishing 2 flies with this setup. Check out the "Super Hopper Dropper" in the fly tying section, if you want to suspend a lot of weight.
  15. Pretty sure you just describe any major city in the world. I always thought Calgary was pretty clean compared to most cities I've been too.
  16. Thats a really good question Mark. I don't fish the southern waters, except the bow. But one of my fav's is the North Ram and it did seem a lot harder to fool the cuttys out there than I can remember. Plus the numbers and size are way down off the scale from what I am used to. But to be fair up till last year I hadn't fished Alberta waters for a good 12 years. I haven't had a lot of time to explore the ram to much and its totally changed with many new channels, most of the pools I fished are high and dry now. But some pools and runs are still the same and I could only get a few cuttys out of those spots. When in the past I could have stayed there and caught fish till my arm got sore. But without a doubt they sure seem harder to fool though.
  17. Quite the pellet pig alrighty. Obviously SRD has nothing to do with managing those community lakes.
  18. I like your polaroid too. Cant wait to see some shots of a monster brown taken with that.
  19. Wow Wolfie that must have been fantastic to meet Joan, always admired her myself. The Japanese girl is Jeong Park and I agree shes fun to watch.
  20. Actually there's some absolutely awesome fly fishing gals in Alberta. Amelia Jenson, Karen Vanderwater, Lynda McLennan. Pretty sure anyone of these gals could fish circles around most of us
  21. In my search for better methods and tricks for fly fishing. I came across this neat little indicator by Rudi Ferris and absolutely love it. Thought I would share it with you all. Just take a empty ink tube out of a ballpoint pen and cut it into (1to3mm) long pieces, longer will provide more friction on your leader to hold it in place better. You can use different sizes of tubes for bigger or smaller indicators. Attaching the yarn is a piece of cake. · Double the nylon and feed on a ring. · Slide the ring down to open a large loop above it. · Feed the yarn into the loop and slide the ring hard up against it. · Now pull both ends of the nylon in opposite directions. · If the correct thickness of yarn has been selected the ring will jump up and hold fast under tension. · Try pulling the indicator up and down to see if it will stay put while you are casting. · If not wrap the nylon one more time over the yarn before you pull the ring in place. It will hold really well. It takes a bit of playing with them to select the right amount of yarn (or whatever you choose to use) for different size rings. After you play with it a little bit it gets a little easier to judge the amount you need. To much and the yarn won't snap into place, to little it just won't hold. It dosen't kink up your leader either and is very easy to adjust depth and take on and off as the situations change. Give it a try and hope you like it.
  22. Wow Doc that rod is awesome must mean a lot to you.
  23. Probably just a forum troll messing with the guys who think they're king *hit of turd island but don't realize they're just fart the messenger boy.
