  1. Right on man, can't see you regretting it!!
  2. Getting a little off the focus here are we not? Off course there are people who do inappropriate things whether fly guys or gear slingers. For me it is about setting aside places to let some real monsters grow, for people using either of the two methods!
  3. I have continued to spend, more in the last year than ever. My wife and I have been thinking of starting a family in the next year or so, and I want to get all my goodies before we hit one income, understanding that available cash will be less available at that time. I have not changed my habits due to the recession or the hype the media places behind it. I pay myself first with RSP, as I always have, and do a sound budget plan monthly. No balance on the credit cards is the most important thing. As I think of having a family the level of concern does increase, with dependents and financial responsibility. However, I will not let fear impact the way I enjoy my life. I did not run out and buy propane and bottled water at the millennium either! In short, if you think you could afford the boat, recession or not, go for it man! Who wants to be the richest dead guy around anyway!
  4. As well as garbage in our land fills....pollution in our rivers and streams... I have not read the studies on global warming and therefore will not comment, but to think that human behaviour and decisions are not a having a major negative impact on the health of this planet is naive. Just my opinion...only time will tell.
  5. Love my Nissan Frontier 06', plan on driving it till the wheels fall off! Might want to work a canopy into your budget as they are handy
  6. There will always be ignorant people, saying igorant things in this world. I just know that the good people outway those people many fold. Thanks to our soldiers...you are brave, brave, men and women.
  7. agree 100%, I have been using my MEC Synergy Gortex jacket for 5+yrs now. No fishing bells and wistles like larger pockets for boxes, but I use my chest back anyway. They also back there product 100%! I went down with mine as I was getting a splitting zipper and was expecting to buy a new one. Customer service installed a new zipper pull in 5 min, good to go!
  8. great tool to have on the water
  9. never had a problem with mine with 3+ yrs use. Just got a new pair of soles with the spikes and rubber..awsome for winter
  10. Good on ya, they will probably learn more out on the moutain than in the classroom anyway!
  11. Just when you think people can't drop to a new low, brutal! Just as bad as when people drop off old junk, like TV's that don't work because they are too lazy to take to the dump. The charity then has to spend their cash to have the garbage removed. I was dropping off my recycling the other day and some goof ball had left 5 cans of old paint right their in front of the mixed paper bin...stupid..I do think that depots for disposal of items like paint and oil should be more readily available, as good to keep that crap out of the river and land fills, but the guy obviosly realized it was not the place for it but left it their anyway! The good old somebody else will take care of it routine!! Ignorant!
  12. Just like hotdogs, great covered in mustard! Worst ever...Big extra combo, but I got it in the UK, beef was grey man. I got to give them two thumbs up on the breaky though, they have good coffee these days and nothing beats a sausage and egger mmmmm..... That gives you the calories for a long day on the river.
  13. Great for comfort when fight larger fish
  14. Simpson

    Goodbye

My condolences and all the best to you and your family. Thank you for the post....I think it is high time I took my Dad fishin'
  15. I use an MSR 4 shot espresso unit I picked up at MEC. Nice and simple, good for home and the bush. It gets you going in the morning! Not sure about cappuccino, that is just an espresso with warm milk on the top, isn't it?
  16. I agree, great show! Good timing too as my most productive fly tying is on Sat, Sun mornings. I gotta drag my ass out of bed though, no PVR for me just yet.....whats a VCR??
  17. WICKED PICS!!
  18. Unfortunately I have not toured enough of this great country of ours to make a fully informed decision, but at this point it would be Fernie. Ride all winter and fish all summer!!!
  19. Don't forget about tying material! Seems I can't walk out of a fly shop with less than a $20 in material min..and I seem to make my way there at least once a week!
  20. I agree, the Pflueger Trion is a great reel, just started running two of them this season. From what I have experienced great bang for your buck! Welcome to the addiction!
  21. not sure what you are refering to "Anybody use forward-propulsion fins" but I have force Fins and recommend them. They bend upwards and snap back quicker than standard fins. Expensive however...$150 ish if my memory server me correctly. For me a must in a float tube as the fins are your only movement option, unlike a pontoon with oars. Just make sure you use the catch strap as losing one of those in the lake or river would be unpleasent!!
  22. Great time of year for thoughts and planning like this.. Continue to ease the winter blues with trips down to the bow till spring run off. Chronomid lake fishing in the spring Alberta and the Kootenays. Many, Many floats on the Bow Bulls on the Wig Spend some great dry fly days on the Crow, Livingston, Oldman, Highwood....some other small creeks to investigate. Getting into August I have a few Alpine lakes I have not visited for some time. Heading to Van Island in mid August via Seattle. 2 weeks of fishing and exploration, still have to plan that one, another thread to follow. Then there is fall which this year had me fishing the Bow almost solid till Dec 15, awesome..what a river... Huge just thinking about the season to come!!
  23. I would be in the doz zone as well. Regarding the tippet....I learned the hard way to always have an extra spool of the stuff you use the most. Nothing like just starting the day to pull off the last 12"! Those dispensers keep it on the spool, but also hide the amount remaining!
