Well as weird as it sounds it does sound as if everyone has dismissed the $5.00 conservation stamp/levee added to the cost of a hunting and fishing license.. It has been stated here that the cost of a license in AB is a bargain yet nobody wants to fork out an extra "fin" to go directly to the recovery of the resource here in AB.. it has worked tremendously well in NB and I believe BC.. and it was the hunters and Fishers of NB that pushed for the stamp, got it and then the volunteer groups that put the monies to damn good use.. ohh well I guess like Don Anderson says "And finally - when all is said and done, there is a lot more said than done."

I was posted to Lahr Germany 88-92 and got a close up first hand view of the fall of the Berlin wall, very cool . I have piece of the wall framed in my home, that my aunt Elsie Wayne got during her visit as a Canadian Rep for the Canadian Government, I think she was Veteran Affairs Critic... It was a very cool time and tense time to be in Europe, as a young Soldier..

Neil The Riverkeepers is a concept idea only to me, somebody dedicated to keeping a river safe and the resource safe .. so in a way keeping poachers and others law breakers off the rivers is perfect.. "think with your 6wt billy, whip!!!! get off the river you lawless bastard wheres me sexy sheep"!!! Warning gay poky thing follows I am not advocating putting the cost of a fishing license up to $100. However the conservation Stamp or levee if you wish that goes directly and completely to the supporting the resource in a damn good idea.. It works for NB and others why not here.. damn site more money here then NB.. and resource to fish for I might add. I do not care which non-government body is chosen to administer the funds.. AFGA, AGA, DFO, TU, DU, even some of the characters here on FFC, but and there is always a but there has to be a priority of projects and the will to carry them out.. and the sum total of the funds must be used for the public resource not administration or other *hit. Even groups such as the aforementioned can ask for funds to do projects, and receive it..

I hope this is still relevant to the thread I have not read all posts If the price of the lic is raised to $100 or $10000000 CND then that money is still going to go into General Revenue coffers and IBM for the most part.. I know that some of it does go to ACA but and there is always a but the majority of it goes to General Rev and IBM.. So maybe the Province should do what New Brunswick did about 15years ago, add a $5.00 stamp to the license that total fiver goes to the resource every friggin penny.. and it works, hell make it an even Tenner and the fishing license here would be a deal.. non-residents and non Canadians make the lic the same price but up the stamp price that way the extra money they pay goes right back to the resource they came here to enjoy!!!!!! I know this deviates from the why "should we the people be paying for" this but why not have "River Keepers" as they do in England.. and Riverwatchers"

That is just foreign to me. But and there is always a but, if that was the case I could at least educate the person on the barbless aspect of fishing.. and who knows maybe convert them to the right side.. I am pessimistically an optimist....

No ! take that as a Roger OUT.. and as an affirmative... My fishing partner on sat found two flies with barbs and keep them, very nicely tied flies but barb'd, he de-barb'd them and stuck them in his hat. as a side note the two flies he found were attached to a Red and white bobber !!!! I would have loved to meet this person, that is the type of person I could have helped I would have even given him/her a Indicator of proper size etc...

Smitty You are presuming that this is the only thing I have an issue with in this context.. I TOTALLY AGREE with the issues you present... These useless devises are just the little pieces of evidence that get left behind by the culprits that may also be participating in the other activities you listed. I am not using a sword but a quiver full of arrows. I also taught, thou in the military system.. Which I must say I think is a much stricter sys.. and did not appreciate when I first joined right out of high school.. but as it went on ..and I had time to reflect I would not have screwed around as much in High School if my teachers had the same techniques and capability as my instructors in Electronics school and core military training...basically I truly believe if we had a system, a complete system of enforcement and penalties with teeth, that hurt when you broke them.. then we would not be having this typed conversation.. but I digress sorry ... your analogy is bang on.. make breaking the law not worth the penalty and the breaking of the law will decrease.. I took pics and gave the info including position to a CO.. and his statement was he wished they had enough manpower to catch them all..

No offense taken, have not done the 420 stuff in 25 years.... I do not think you can be wound too tight on an issue that steals something that you love and destroys a resource that you respect.. I do see this as very black and white , you and by this I mean me, Fish and Hunt totally legal and ethical, because there is no pride in stealing or cheating when doing it.. but I can see the merit in the 420 thing at times..

The folks that use this stuff are like the Poachers on salmon streams they do not use them when others are around, and if they do then yes they are likely just not informed and I do info them and in the most polite and educational manner, I give flies and etc... to help out and have not had a bad response by someone who truly did not know the diff...

Well I went fishing Sat.. Found this stuck in a tree over the river, it had a swivel and line attached to it.. so defend it !!! I dare you, this time there is no wiggle room.. with out a doubt - it was used on this river... Proof positive that the Alberta wilderness has been host to that invasive species - Urbanodourous-moroneious ... hopefully it is transient..... Talked to a CO today and gave him all the details and the poor guys just lowered his shaking head and I think I saw a tic in his right eye...
