  1. Bob, he uses a REALLY heavy sink tip for high speed leech trolling for those spiny finned buggers

Great way to break in the new boat
  3. I believe they are made by the guy who started Redington. Never used one but would expect they are like the cheaper Sage rods, not the high end stuff.

Jeff, the fish were rockets. Great fun catching fish where you are completely out of control. Chrome bullets flashing under the water and flying out for long distant jumps. Lake fishing sucks...

Jared, there is a lake south of Milo in the prairie. We were trying to find saugeye and burbot but all we could get were these fat fish with no spots. This one has 7 spots I think, 24" The spawners are bigger. Might have to try again in the fall when they clean up.

Went exploring Saturday to find some real fish. Found a new water body with some healthy diploids. Nice to see fish growing so big before they reach sexually maturity. The fish was mortally wounded prior to picture so no worries about survival (dinner for four). Chrome 22" very close to 7lb
  7. I think there is some in my garage. Send me a message with an offer. Cheers, Rob
  8. Were you upstream or downstream of M Hat?
  9. Awesome Steve! Congrats on your 4 foot fish. The river valley down there is such an interesting place to spend a day.
  10. I use Berkley Transition (it's gold) for lake fishing. 10lb test stuff gets used most of the time. I just use it for the last couple of feet before the flies. I just tie it to mono with a cinch knot....completely against proper fly fishing rules....fish don't know the rules or care. When indicator fishing you don't want fluorocarbon between the fly line and the indicator. The line sinks and makes hook setting more difficult as you first have to drag the line out of the water, and then the indicator.
  11. Just a typo. You can have triploid 3N (male and female) or all female triploid AF3N. The males still jack (see secondary sex characteristics) even though triploid. They will only get huge if there is lots of food around. Therefore the stocking density has to be appropriate.
  12. Excellent, you keep Mr. S at your lake so our fish on this side of the river can get a rest. Cheers, Rob
  13. Bobber fishing works pretty well. Chironomids, scuds and caddis pupae have worked for me. In the really shallow stuff you can just strip pheasant tails in front of them. Pretty good fight if the fish want to head back to deep water
  14. No, only stillwaters where the water column gets stratified by temperature.
  15. I got a fish yesterday with 2 puncture wounds on it's head from the local fish hawk. He must have only got one foot on the lucky bugger. Very cool birds indeed.
  16. Anybody have a desire for some fresh feathers?
  17. I tie a loose rope off D-rings on the side that loops around behind the seat. I can then tie my 5/16" anchor rope to this rope. I use an 8lb rubberized dumb bell weight for my anchor (anchor rope wraps around weight). You can slide the knot along this rope to position yourself in the wind if need be. I use a wet bag about the size of a sleeping bag to bring along any extra clothes/food/gear for the day. Slide your net in beside the wet bag. Scuba fins provide for great mobility.
  18. Fish cat 4 with the foam seat is the best fishing tool I have. Not too bad to hike in for a day trip with shoulder straps. I did have a seam leak in the bladder but Outcast replaced the bladder with a better version for free. Great service. Both my friends have not used their pontoon boats since getting a Fish Cat 4...easier/quicker to set up and get fishing. Get a wet bag to sit in the space behind the seat and small anchor and you are set.
  19. Drag will have to be reversed as well...flip a bearing or something depending on reel
  20. As the water rises and warms you will see them moving into back bays and swampy spots. There is pike from Bowness to Carsland. Not sure if there is a huge population but they are around. I've seen some 10-12 lbers. Even the Rapala boys don't seem to catch too many.
  21. Fishing was good, lots of the those chrome looking fish were exercised. Pike spawning in rocks along a fast riffle, OK then
  22. Looks like the fish are getting enough shrimp to eat. Thanks for the pics
  23. Spooked this guy in about 5" of water this morning. I followed him upstream for a photo. What dry fly do experts suggest would work for this fellow?
  24. I find mending and holding the line above the current easier with a longer rod
