  1. Cool pic. Maybe a 6wt with some backbone is in order for that game
  2. The fish in BH are more willing I hear, though many say it is tough fishing this year
  3. Not sure how many made it with the bodies around. Scared me after the long drive
  4. The Sinusoidal bye bye
  5. Lots of Prussian Carp in the Red Deer below the city Red Deer down Okotoks pond was rotenoned for goldfish I believe Lots of carp below Bassano in the Bow and irrigation system All started from a guy with a Talapia farm by Strathmore. He released carp into an irrigation ditch that eventually gets to the Red Deer river below Drumheller. Then it was up to the bucket brigade to start moving carp everywhere
  6. Some nice casting happening there. Great to watch some skill
  7. Buckingham trout by Todd Moen video on Youtube. Link doesn't want to show up here
  8. I even used 20lb braid for the nail knots behind the fly line loop. Then glued to smooth things out
  9. I didn't know Rick(Tex) was in the movies
  10. Not sure how things are going...but as far as "rope" goes....guys at Canyon rigging said there is now rope made with Dyneema (like braided fishing line) that is incredibly strong in a small diameter with a breaking strength of 50,000lb.
  11. Landowner is Albertina Farms. Houses are along Hwy 552 just north of Blizzard lake on the map. There is a road all the way down there coming from the south right to the Hell on Wheels filming site. I don't think "rope" will be strong enough. You may need cable or nylon webbing tow straps.....the guys at Canyon Rigging in Calgary can custom build whatever you might need and offer some professional expertise. A tractor on shore might be the best solution
  12. Not sure if supplies are needed for the rescue, but a company in SE Calgary probably has anything required....Canyon Rigging
  13. The rod likes the 600gr head. Now to just swing up some Chromers!
  14. Hey when your bobber goes down... my guide Dave taught me strike at everything
  15. A couple of weeks after Troutlover landed the zombie Burbot, I nymphed up this ex-trout. Hook wasn't quite in the mouth but close enough. "Caught" in a very fast riffle in about 3ft of water. That was the day I burned all my indicators
  16. Won a bet by catch and releasing a muskrat on a dry A true trophy ...the late season American coot
  17. 3 gulls cliff swallow bat
  18. Took it out to swing with a 540gr skagit tonight. This rod is a lot stiffer than my other noodle rod so it wouldn't load correctly. The casting was difficult until I made some adjustments. My novice mind thinks I need to bump up the Skagit head to 600gr. This rod sure has a lot of power. Looking forward to getting the head weight right. Even ugly casts get rewarded

  20. I guess I need to get out fishing more. I only see weasels, mink and beavers
  21. The Orvis Recon 5wt is a great rod. I would use that out of my Fish Cat. Questions to consider for lake fishing: How big are the fish you are looking to catch? How much wind will you be dealing with? How long of leaders will you be casting? For me, I often find myself using long leaders( at times over 20ft), with some heavy flies under an indicator under some pretty windy conditions. I like to go where there is fish over 5lb. These kind of situations tend not to be the best for a 4wt. Like mentioned above, a 6wt is usually a better choice. Your fast 5wt Recon would work as well. If you are fishing in nice weather, with smaller fish and lots of chance to fish dries, a 4wt would be nice. Why not a Recon
  22. Alberta caught fish?
  23. Both guys in their 50's and have been outside quite a bit. Hopefully they can tell a 2 lber from a 10 lber 😃
