  1. I tried a few different techniques. I was switching between a dead drift and very short fast strips in an attampt to imitate the stones I could see on the surface, swiming and chillaxin. I really think this one needs mastering because the river was alive last night!

  3. Thats what keeps bringing you back. The Bow can be a pretty technical river and your problem is either DRAG, DEPTH, or the water your are fishing, that will be the outcome of a guided trip. Remember everyone is tossing the same flies, the only varient is your presentation of the fly and what waters you decide to fish. The easiest fix is play with the depth of your strike indicator and with micro split shots to adjust where your fly resides in the water. Nest is work on your mend, if that means walking along shore to fight off drag then do it for a day. YOu will notice the subtilities and feel for drag free drift by doing that simple thing, walking. Then slow down the walking and make adjustments to your line by stripping, high sticking and mending till you end up with the same results. Last but not least is the water you fish. Remember only 10% of the river hold fish. You will need to be able to read the water, but in short fish need a few basics to be happy and call a stretch of water home. They need constant food supply that requires very little energy to get. So look for a converer belt of faster water with a dead pocket or reversing current that the fish can sit and hit that food belt without spending more energy then the food is worth. If this post was just a "RANT" as my wife calls them and didn't need an answer then sorry and rant away. Matt
  4. Last night on the Bow the stones started hatching @ 10:00 to 12:00. HUGH rises, and turns on the stones all within 5feet from shore. I tried everything, foam realistic stones black, red and yellow, weighted stone nymphs, I even tried a greased line under a stimulator. I got only one big rise all night. I have always heard that if you get into a stone hatch it can be the best fishing you will ever see. Well not the case, I only got one big turn and the fly was spit. I would love to what guys ont he board do for stone success because I have never seen anything like this before.....hence the title of the post STONED! Matt
  5. I actually did a blind casting of five different rods thiss year before buying the new Sage Flight. Everybody's taste is different but you should give it a swing. I would try to Loop also
  6. I would love to see a rod builders opinion on here, but I believe overweighting is an attempt to correct for poor casting machanics. Fix teh root of the problem, and don't try to hide it. Matt
  7. I have the riversheds studded vibrams also. No complaints, great traction, light, comfortable, reenforced toe box so you don't get your toes squat. Money very well spent
  8. So what you are saying is "If your butt draggs on the ground, grab your rod by the tip, hold it high in the air and stick it in the butt. And your buddy Cdock likes it" Ha Ha.
  9. I had teh exact same thing happen. I think there was a design problem with the Orvis pro guide II's seam location. They did the exact same thing for me and my old pro guide II's, where they upgraded me to the pro guide III's/
  10. I know that is the theory with spending more and getting more but I haven't noticed the quality difference from Icky. Seeps to be a good deal for a good fly.
  11. All great suggestions but I target Bullies all the time on the Highwood. I usually pack my 6 weight for streamers and the 5 for nymphing. Bullies still hit nymphs, but I often carry a handfull of larger Steelhead flies that Bowriver troutfitters carry. I am not overflowing with patience so I just weight the *hit out of my normal nymph setup. The nice thing on the highwood is you dont have to cast far, just lob into a deep pool and strip away.
  12. Thats why Ickyflyworks.ca rocks! $0.99 per fly and they are pretty good quality.
  13. I like it I think it might be time to retire to old "max logo". Any others agree?
  14. Depends on your tolerance to the cold, I fished with a buddy of mine over a moth ago who wet waded. Not my cup of tea, but I guess he is tougher then me. I wouldn't worry about how clean the water is. About the hardness of the water, people from all over the world pay money to bath in the Banff hot springs which is 10x the disolved calcium. As for how clean it is, if you compare it on a global scale the Bow is cleaner then alot of the water people drink around the world. If you can suffer the cold do it. The only polution in the Bow is from the mountains to where you fish and Calgary has a water treatment plant that is the best in the world.
  15. I have the Simms Rivershead Vibram with studs. Losts of grip, neoprene lined, big toe box, desigend to be light enought to hike in. Love em, and they dont get slime clogged like my old felt ones. WIth that said I only had LL beans and these, these are far supperior, but also 5x the price.
  16. Absolutly stupid question from me here, but I had a shop in town do it to me. "Is your line on the right way?" Not to say who but a shop rigged my reel backwards when I bought my new rod a few months. The rod is a very similar action to the Reddington and I thought it was the action on the rod that I wasn't used to. I noticed when I was cleaning my line there was no weight forward section on the line......they put it on backwards and the new rod was casting like a piece of timber. I fixed the floating line direction and this thing casts like a rocket! Leason learned.....Don't take the obvious for granted.
  17. First of all you have to stay on the strip! You can get great deals on Hotwire.com for the MGM Grand. We booked four guys to two rooms, but once we got there you can upgrade at the front dest for a few bucks each to a loft or penthouse. Very swank! The pool is a great place to hang out durring the day, and as for the evenings you can make your own fun or talk to a club promoter. The clubs are different then here and work on bottle service between $300 - $500 for a bottle of booze but you can usually negotiate a 2 for 1 deal on the bottle and a VIP lounge with your own waitress if you have a few guys. PM me is you want more details and some cell numbers for club promoters, Also every cabbie will want to take you to the strippers, as the strip bars give them $50 per guy they bring in. Also pick pockets are a reality so if a girl approches you in the street flirting with you keep your hand on you wallet. They stay out of the casinos as there is cameras everywhere.
  18. I was at Wedge pond two weekend ago. There were lots rising but I had no luck. Beautiful little lake
  19. I think you missed teh joke, I thought it was pretty witty
  20. A man went to his doctor and said I cannot pleasure my wife anymore in my later years, can you help? The doctor replies that "in our later years over heating can play a major roll in a womans ability to climax, you could hire somone to fan your wife while you try to pleasure her. On the doctors advise the old guy hires a strapping young man strong enough to wave the biggest fan he could find for two hours. After a failed attempt that night under a gentle breeze of the fan, he returned to the Doctor and said " no luck doc the fanning didn't work". The Doc suggests maybe it isnt the fanning thats the problem and maybe the old man and the young fan boy should switch. Thats night as the young man worked his majic the old lady sang like she never did before and climaxed three times in a row. The old man stood up, pushing the young buck to the side as he handed him the fan and said "NOW THATS HOW YOU WORK A FU^%ING FAN"!
  21. I carry enough junk in my vest, hopefully the CO's know the regs.
  22. There is someone in my neighborhood that once a week spends his evenings burning rubber. I am talking serious doughnuts and big burn outs. I wish I could illegally park my foot up his ass before he rips the side off a house or hits someone.
  23. Why did TUC leave this for so last minuite? I only got the E-Mail from TUC on this 11:00 this morning. I think someone dropped the ball on this pretty bad.
  24. Gotta agree with the chemical comment. I have a Katadyn Combi, it combines a silver impregnated ceramic element and a refillable, activated carbon cartridge. It is effective against bacteria and protozoa and also reduces chemicals and bad taste. 0.2 micron ceramic filter. I used to be on expidetions in the mountians for months at at a time and it worked great, never onve got sick. I even used it to drink Mexican and south american water with no ill effects. Highly recomended if you are willing to shell out the bucks. Even found this little video on it. http://www.katadyn.com/caen/technical-supp...ombicombi-plus/
