You don't have to sell me on anything, there is no place I would rather be! I may be looking into this next year, kinda layed up this season after sugery, do you offer discounts to board members? WHat is peak season? and how much notice do you need for booking?

"A Wading Belt" eh? There was a less then masculin guy I went to school with who carried a purse, he called it a europian-carry-all. It was still a purse, no matter what he called it! So you see where I am going with this....its still a faggy pack

Its really funny you said that you need no more gear...I was thinking the same thing last week. So I thought I have to be missing something, and I think I found it Spey rod, reel, line, books, videos, bigger streamers.....ppppssss don't tell my wife..... On a side note I did find a guy selling a pile of really nice gear on Craigs list... http://calgary.en.craigslist.ca/spo/893664450.html

Damn thats cool! I think next year that is on my list of thisgs to do, Spey casting.
-
After reading the "what you learned this year" I seen alot of guys posting that they learned spey casting. Here is what I know about spey fishing, you use two hands...thats it. Questions I would love to have answered.... If you post I will listen. Can I use my large arbour 6wt reel that I currently have on my "normal" rod What is the benifit of Spey vs normal fly fishing? Can I do it on the Bow durring my walk and wade?

If you are going to shell out $250 to fish a stocked pond while gofey and Mickey does a dance on shore you got more money then me! My self and my wife spent last Christmas @ Disney, you can go deep sea fishing at Cape Canaveral (the same place they launch the shuttle) for a night shark fishing cruse. It was only $150, but be sure that they take you at least 20 miles off shore to the reef, if you stay in the bay you will be fishing for junk fish and probably not catch anything because they will hook you up with shark rigging. If you get out to the reef and they Chum you can be looking at 9 - 12 footers! I love deep sea fishing! The best bang for th ebuck is possibably Eastern Canada, $30 for a half day.

Things You've Learned This Year
theiceman2 replied to bloom's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Things I have learned this season: 1: There are two types of dogs, Type 1 will bark at a bear, put himself in harms way and defend you no matter if the price is his own life , Type 2 will call a bear graizing on berries every name in the book, piss him off enough to approch you and then cry while runnig behind you to protect him. 2: IT PAYS TO KNOW WHET TYPE OF DOG YOU HAVE! I HAVE LEARNED THAT MY DOG IS A TYPE 2! 3: Nymphing nymphing nymphing, and tandem rigs are worth the fustration. 4: Light weight tackle makes every brookie feel like a trophy 5: It is possible to have too much junk in your vest, yes I said it! 6: Gore-tex is attracted to barb wire like a magnet 7: Not everyone like fishing as much as you 8: Leave you recipt at the fly shop, you will not return anything you buy and all that recipt is good for is to let your wife know how much you spend. 9: Turn over rocks to see what nymphs are in the water thru out the day, match your flies to the hatch, and size is more important then color. Do it several times a day because it actually changes. 10: Florocarbon is good only when its new, 2 hour old fluro gets nicks and scrapes and gets cloudy and is worse then mono if you dont change it often. 11: Pink San juan worms actually work, even though I have never seen a neon pink worm. 12: Debarbed hooks are easier to remove from the back of your heaad then barbed hooks. -
That is if your dont mind a 7 piece rods when you get to your finial destination....

Peter, I got pulled into the hospital on Friday for an emergency appendicectomy. I don't think I will be making that trip to the Highwood we were talking about on Sunday. Matt

Lower Cnd $ = Higher Tackle Prices ???
theiceman2 replied to CrisD's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I went into a shop today looking at a set of Simms waders. They were marked as $399, but I was told that the price was in americian and the actual price was $429. So yes some guys are already gacking prices eventhough I am sure that the waders were purchased when the dollar was at par. Like the gas stations they are quick to gack the price but slow to lower it. -
I hase posted several times, that I have the thank you letters along with a publishable format in the works for the sponsors. Alot of the bigger organizations asked for pushablishable letters and photos for their newsletters and web sites. Feel free to write your own letter to local shops, but be assured that they will get a "thanks you" from the grooup. Matt

The killer of any petroleum based product (IE rubber or plastic, tires or Fly line) is Ozone (O3). Ozone (O3) is present in the air thru a reaction of Hydrocarbons + nitrogen and heat being a catilyst (speeds up the reaction). Ozone cracks the C=C double bonds, your hydrocarbon based fly line will slowly decompose with time if not protected against atmospheric ozone. Like the tires on your dad's 1984 pontiac 6000 small cracks will start to appear as the integrity and strength of the polymer breaks down. To prevent this break down of your polymer fly line you need to treat it with a wax based fly line dressing and store it in a cool dark place. If you want to be really anal you can put it in a zip lock bag and suck all of the air out to further prevent the reaction. DO NOT USE WD-40! I love WD-40 and duck tape but not on one of the most expensive fly lines out there. Matt

Thanks you to everyone who made it out to the bow river clean up. A rough tally, after talking to everyone, I believe there we 57 bags of garbage pulled From Policemans flats to north of the bridge, and fish creek. That does not include larger items that people were good enough to lug out like scooters, bike frames, motor heads, rafts, tables, coolers, ect. We are currently working on an article to run in newspapers and fishing mags. I will also post a bunch of photosd on the board tonight if I have time. Again, Thanks again to everyone for comming out, and to out sponsors! Special thanks to Peter for that extra effort and perfectly cooked sausages, Murray who supplied the BBQ water, wood and propane and good humor, Doug who couldn't make it to the event but took time to visit Policemans flats after and remove all of the garbage bags.

I agree, I have seen alot of guys using WD-40 ice fishing. I don't know why but apparently trout love it, cant be good.
-
3 hyperdermic needles, 12 golf balls, and the most common had to be bottle caps.
-
We have fsih creek booked for noon, but we can play it by ear. Matt
-
Can someong else bring a BBQ to the cleanup just incase? I havent heard back from Murray yet. Matt
-
See the very first post I just updated everything.
-
Murray: I need to triple check that you are bringing the BBQ for the Bow River Clean up tomorrow Sunday Oct 19th? My cell is 403-869-8946 if anyone needs to get ahold of me? Matt
-
Great, Murray, if you could bring your grill and those jugs full of potible water that would be great. Fish creek has turned off the water because of fear of frozen pipes. Also fill your tank and keep the recipt, I will give you money at the clean up for your expenses. Matt

I am looking for suggestions from you guys for areas on the Bow that are in need of clean up durring the Bow River Clean up. I was at poliecemans flats a few times lately, its not too bad, but has anyone on float noted any areas on the Bow in certian need of a clean up? On a side note, we have the BBQ confirmed at poliecee mans flats, we got a tonne of saussages and side dishes, NEED SOMEONE TO BRING A BBQ and WATER JUGS, any takers? Matt

Go to T&T market, the asian grocery store, they have every fish known to man. Including some really wierd stuff like suckers. Most come frozen and are certified for human consumption so you would not have the parisite problem one of the other board members brought up. $5 at T&T and you can spend the day trying for so sportfish rather then junkfish. Matt
