Really a personal thing based on your fish handling ability but I have always liked a net for larger trout, I find less stress on the fish before release and I can control a larger trout easier for extracting hooks. I don't always use use a net but decide on the situation. Many times I release a fish without a net and just unhooking a fish in the water never touching it our picking it up. If the area I'm in isn't conducive to this then I rely on the net. What the good doctor said.....

I was up in Jasper on the long weekend as well, and also saw this way too many times. Saw six bears on the trip to and from Jasper. Six black bears and two grizzlys. Awesome sight to see, except for the stupid people getting out of their cars, crossing the highway and standing there taking pictures. There was a Park Ranger there for the first grizzly we saw and she thanked us for actually staying in our vehicle, and was actively telling people to get back in their cars. When its man vs nature....nature wins. Always.

Good job on a great site. Can't be easy with all the mud slinging that goes on, but I appreciate all the work the mods do. I also have had the pleasure of meeting a number of the members that have helped me with my fishing when I was just a noob, who gave me advice, introduced me to some new water and some great memories. Hopefully many more will come. Without this site, none of that would have happened. Thanks guys.

Exactly. Who the hell are we to decide who gets to do what and where? Just because you are in a drift boat or a pontoon, we should cry foul because a guy who has jet boat goes by? Sure, if the guy's an a$$hat, then vent about it, but it is a public place with public access and they have as much right to this beautiful river as everyone else. If you don't want a jet boat blowing past, then float the city section where motorized boats aren't allowed. Just watch out for those pesky firemen jetting up and down the river....

Excellent read, and well put Don. I remember this issue came up when word spread that Bass Pro was coming to town. I, for one, am not a fan. Hell, the only time I've spent money there is when my brother in law got me a gift card from them. Otherwise, it's a pain in the ass to get there, and even if it weren't, I'd likely still go to Fish Tales or Country Pleasures as they are both far superior in knowledge and service. My two cents.
