  1. I don't beleive the turns put fish down, yesterday I had a client out, we picked several fish on dries amongst the turns after we noticed fish rising while the turns were on the water. If anything they are noisey bastards

  3. i would suggest it's not nearly as large as you think, I would estimate around $3-4 million annually. I came up with these #s like this. Let's assume there is 80 guides on the bow, assume everyone of them gets 60 days on the river (which is probaly above the average) each guide charges on average $450. (80x60)450= $2,160,000.00. Now if you double that for tackle, food and hotels $4,000,000 is a fair number. Plus I feel the numbers I used were fairly high. No one is getting rich guiding. ON top of that you aren't going to see many rafters downstream of police and upstream of Bearspaw, there is tonnes of awesome river to fish.
  4. The weir is still in place to run it you would have to shoot the small bypass on the east side of the river.... I think thats a no go. It would suck if rafters "wreck" the fishing opportunitys in the city section of the bow, although I don't think rafters are the sole source or main source of declining trout #s in the elbow. Regardless, rafters have the same right to the water as us anglers, we got to live together. The wier being removed could increase trout #s above the wier and anglers may just have to move a little more we may even see less people launching from bears paw. Either way I'm excited to drift through that water, everytime I have driven by this week I just imagine.
  5. I've used cartridge reels in the past, historically the casettes could split with the lethal combination of a line machine and i'll trained users but that has pretty much been eliminated. They are awesome if you switch up lines regularly, great if you are stillwater fishing and you only have the one rod. If you want a great reel with inexpensive spools you may want to look at the Sage 3800 series. Not a cartridge reel but the spools are carbon fibre so they come out cheap.
  6. would you be more comfortable fishing from the other side of the river, I know this sounds strange but you maybe fishing with the river coming from left to right and while learning it might be easier to learn on the other side. I fish right handed, spey casting for me was much easier to learn on the west side of the river. After casting a while I figured the mechanics of casting on the east side. you may want to try switching up sides.
  7. the $7.88 flys at wholesale are a bargin right now if you're looking for streamers, head cement deal done
  8. How about going to MEC and just buying the exact Petzl pulley that Hyde sells for half the price, it's standard climbing equipment
  9. wicked fish Drew, i talked to a buddy that was out today and he told me it was an epic day for his group as well. good on ya, how was the wind??
  10. That's awesome you got that cutty, even better that you got pics. I really wanted to see it after you told us.
  11. No I can't headscan, I got the info in an email from a buddy when I was up north I never saw the report so I guess he was wrong about the area, my apologies.
  12. If your cat started spraying and he wasn't neutered, neutering him now won't change him. He now knows he can do it and will continue to, bummer I'm a cat person myself and there isn't much in the way of solutions for you now, except dealing with it.
  13. Nice hopper, keep tieing em up agriculture canada has released a report forecasting that southern alberta will have an epidemic of grasshoppers this summer............... bummer eh?
  14. you should maybe look at the Sage Vantages, they are an inexpensive option to getting into the Sage line up. If you are trying the VT2s you really should look at the Vantage, I think the Vantage has a nicer feel to it then the VT2s. Just a thought, if you can find a cheap Launch out there I would buy that without question.
  15. Muddlers and Bow bugges are two seperate patterns. The Bugger is a mix of a muddler and a wolly bugger http://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/bowriver/ http://www.flyfishersrepublic.com/patterns/muddler-minnow/ if you are tying muddlers for the Bow I would think that a bunny strip is a good idea; muddlers tend to be very sparse; being so sparse they don't move the water a BRB does. With the bunny you will add a good amount of volume.
  16. The idea is to not just go buy any materials with out direction. Start with a pattern you use and will benefit from tying and buy those materials. Sooner or later from all the flys you tie you will be able to make other patterns with the exsisting materials.
  17. Bravo Andy, that's it.
  18. I have fished the Sage TXL series in the 00 - 0 - and 2 wt. I currently own the 2. If you would like to demo the 2 let me know and we can work something out. I am a big fan of the 0s but with any slight breeze you are f'd. That's why I went to the 2wt myself. I have found that the 2 is more then adequate for throwing a 2 fly nymph rig or drys. The rod has enough backbone to toss some smaller unweigted streamers for juvy bulls, but many around here may frown on that. I think with a 2 vs the oughts you have a lot more versatility. If you pick up a Sage TXL in the 1wt or up DON'T OVER LINE IT, the rod casts perfectly with the correctly mated WF. I found that depending on your casting you may need to overline if you are playing with DT line, but the rod is a very relaxed mid-fast action so there is really no need to slow it down with an up line. If you have any questions on the TXLs or other Sages PM me and we'll talk.
  19. Bang on, this last winter I was at a few sights, on one I found out the apprentice scaffolders are making $38 an hour to start.. the Journeyman get $48-$52 an hour. It takes a day long course to be an apprentice scaffolder.
  20. I felt it was a pretty weak film no where to the level of the other flims in the series.
  21. Fishing ban.... I'd like to see this article as he apparently enjoyed fly fishing with a guide this last summer. edit.. wow can you imagine fishing getting banned.... the Bow would get VERY,VERY BUSY, as would the fraser watershed
  22. Fish tales has a copy but it's out.... in my hands
