Computer Question
PeteZahut replied to trailhead's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I also bought an XPS laptop and am really happy with it. Had an issue with the integrated webacam but thanks to their top-notch service I got in fixed in record time. I will likely continue to use Dell in the future. -
I agree. I think it was a smart location to put a fly shop just based on the projected fisherman traffic with respect to Policeman's Flats. I personally would unlikely drive there just to shop based on where I live. But if I was hitting the Bow in that area and need some flies than I would drop in there.

As always Hiketofish, beautiful pictures!

My wife and I have been using the same Orvis rods since we started ~5 years ago and have not had one issue to date.

Moving Company Recommendations
PeteZahut replied to PeteZahut's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Thanks Red, much appreciated. For some reason I was shying away from the big companies based on the assumption they would be that much more expensive. Interesting about the boxes though, that is the next issue. Thanks again. -
We have just recently sold our house and bought a new one and will be moving in a month. Instead of breaking the backs of my buddies I figured I would get a moving company to move our stuff. We will be doing the packing and moving most of the delicate stuff and the movers will be doing the majority of the furniture and boxes. I am looking for recommendations for local companies that you have had good experiences with. If you care to tell me about a bad experience those are welcome as well. Perhaps a PM would be better to not publically slag anyone but that is up to you. Thanks in advance, Chris

Jessie Won't Be Fishing With Us This Year
PeteZahut replied to LynnF's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Lynn, I am so sorry to hear this. Jessie was an amazing dog. We too had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful dog and will always have fond memories of the great dog races around Racehorse. We hope to camp there again around the beginning of July and will stop by to pay our respects to that sapling in memory of that wonderful pup. Leah and I (and Sophie) wish you and your family the best. -
I have an Orvis Clearwater 5-weight and the wife has a 4-weight. Both have been used for about the last 4 years and have had absolutely no issues with them. Looking to upgrade soon but it no hurry because I have no issues with this one.

There is a good lake trout fishing north of PA. I spent a lot of time fishing Whelan Bay, Little Bear and East Trout lake when I was younger. There is also good Eyes and Pike fishing in areas like LaRonge. Mostly lake fishing from what I can remember but then I was strictly bait and metal chucking then. We are trying to get back to Whelan Bay this summer for old times sake. Monster lakers in there!

Worst Tim Hortons In Calgary?
PeteZahut replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Tim's needs to invest some time in coming up with a cup that doesn't leach the paper flavour into the coffee. I can't stand it. I would rather pay the extra money and buy from Starbucks everytime. By the way, I see a lot of guys mentioning putting sugar and cream in their coffee...tsk.tsk. That does nothing but ruin it...pretenders. -
I too bought one from Memory Express. It wasn't custom except that I upgraded the RAM and video card myself. It has been rock solid for 3 years now and I run a fair bit of apps on it. My wife actually likes doing here Photoshop work on it more then her Mac at work.

I too have been really impressed with the level of help and friendliness on this board. I was not a member before the other board went offline so I can't speak about how it used to be. I do think that this one has improved because of what happened to the other board. None of us want to see that happen here and want to keep this great resource going and so I do really think there has been a direct effort by members to maintain what this board stands for and not waste each others time with nonsense. Good on you mods and members.

Glad to hear that the new venue has gotten a pretty good review. We could only do one show this weekend and chose the RV Show instead. Got a helluva good price on a add-a-room for our trailer. Need to have a protected place for the little one to hang out this summer. Hopefully next year..or at least the sportsman and boat show.

Once in the 6 years I have lived in Alberta and it was last year on the Highwood. It was kind of funny as my wife and I were fishing the other side of the river at Sentinel and the CO called us to cross back over so she could check. As we made our way back across, very slowly, it was within a few feet of her that she got an embarrassed look on her face. At that time my wife was 7 months pregnant and not too speedy at crossing, especially that spot. The CO said she would not have bothered if she would have noticed that she was pregnant. It was good to finally be checked.

Any Have An Hd Video Cam?
PeteZahut replied to PeteZahut's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Thanks for the info. I haven't spent as much time on the reviews as I probably should have. I thought about DV but then I thought I would end up burning it to DVD at some point anyways and then I wouldn't have to bother with tapes. I agree that the quality of DV is probably better due to not having to compress to the harddrive or DVD but I figured that I could live with it. I will probably end up buying it and maybe write my own review. Perhaps next summer you will see a link on here to some video I shoot. -
I have been looking lately at the Sony Hi-Def video camera (HDR-SR7 HDD) and was wondering if anyone else out there has one. Any likes/dislikes or anything like that I would really like to hear about it. Because I am looking a t dropping >$1000 I want to make sure I know as much as I can and I find hearing what people like or dislike really helps iron out some things. Thanks in advance.

Did you check if there has been a firmware update for the device? I have found that a lot of devices sit around in the factory or in stock rooms and by the time they hit the market there are updates to the firmware but no indication to the user. I had an issue with my Linksys and that its throughput was abismal. I looked on their website and other forums and found other people had the same issue and that an update to the firmware would fix the problem. That did the trick for me. So I would have a look around and see if there is any kind of update like this for your router.

Good luck and we wish you a speedy recovery.

The comparisons between tvs and cables is an interesting one and whenever I think I have it figured out something changes. Anyways, as for the argument of composite versus HDMi, I think a lot depends on the source and sink of the signal as well as the cable. Composite being analog will have issues that the digital cable (HDMI) might not have. But with a fairly good quality cable and a TV with a good analog to digital converter you won't see a difference. I have read a lot on this and it will really come down to user preference. I compared on my TV and I did not see a difference between HDMI and composite going from my PVR to my LCD. And because of that, I don't feel it necessary to spend the money on another HDMI cable. As for my view on the LCDs, I am biased to Sony. I did a fair bit of research on this and I am still of the opinion that Sony is putting out the highest quality LCD at the moment. My XBR4 does have the 120Hz rate along with the highest true and dynamic contrast range of any LCD. Does that make it better? I don't know. But that is how I justify paying that amount of money. I do think that Sharp probably provides the best bang for your buck though. So I guess it is a question of wanting the best tv for your money or the best tv period. Let the onslaught of opinions commence! In the end much like the cables, it is all a matter of opinion and what you like best when you look at it.
