  1. I have both the 55 and the 80 in my drift boat. Use the 55 as a spare in case the 80 craps out. You don't want to row a drift boat into a head wind if your motor craps out. I used the 55 the first season and it was OK until the wind came up. Had to run at full throttle , burned out all my batteries and just to made it to the dock. With the 80 I've had no issues more power and at lower speeds, gives the option to run and gun to various locations and have never been pushed backwards in a head wind. Always have a spare battery or set of batteries, an inline surge protector, and a switch to change battery banks. Ray
  2. Yup can't wait. Only will have one day at opening than off to las vegas to see santana. I typically wait a a week or so after ice out than hit her hard till july. This year may be different, never seen so many bows spawning this early in the year.
  3. Checked the lake out yesterday. Ice will be off in a week. Have never seen the ice come off this early in 30 years. Ray
  4. I'd gladly donate a day stillwater fishing on Maligne lake in June early July. Ray

  6. Anyone know any good reputable Realtor in the area. As a side note for all you old timers. Year of the Raven is available on KIndle. Meet the author several times. Interesting fellow.
  7. Any of towns mentioned are of high interest. She has a love for R+B but any type of country would be close second. Not sure what the arch is!!! Plan is for me to spend allot of time in the area this summer, wife would move down in the fall and we spend sometime living in the area to see if it meets our needs. Got it pretty sweet here in Jasper so don't want to pull the pin and not like the area. Is the Sheep worth fishing in the Turner Valley area?? Ray
  8. We looked at Okotoks but cant see use moving from a town of 4k to 24k . Can you smell the sour gas plants??? thnks
  9. Well we've decided to move from the Rockies to the flat lands to be closer to the grand kids. Mostly interested in the Black Diamond,Turner Valley area and surrounding towns. We'd prefer a smaller town with a good music seen (wife a great singer). Also my brother mentioned that this area has allot of sour gas wells with associated aroma. Sure would appreciate some advice. Ray
  10. this ought to help. http://diybonefishing.com/bahamas/long-island/ Have had great success lately with Cravens bonefish junk. Have some tan and chartreuse clousers, Peterson snapping shrimp and vaverick mantis patterns mostly in size #4 and #6.I always have the usual gotchas and other patterns Great wading on hard bottom not much for mud. Have a great trip. Long island was hit pretty hard by the last hurricane. Should be some interesting fishing.
  11. Anyone have any problems with the rec recoil guides. Section section from the top to the tip top all guides are heavily grooved and one guide has actually worn right threw. Rods only a couple of years old but with many days on the water. Have concerns that if I send the rod in they'll only fix the one worn threw guide and not replace the rest of them. Id be kind of pissed spending the $75 and get it back with just the one guide repaired. In all honesty I dont like these guides there really noisy and kind of small. Would like to replace them myself but that would void the warranty. Ray
  12. I'm a cabinet maker by trade and and the most usefull tool you can get is this saw guide, use it for ripping + cross cutting sheet goods, routing dadoes and even use it to joint the edges of hardwood lumber on my Bosch table saw. http://www.busybeetools.com/products/straight-edge-clamp-50in-pro-grip.html I've used most of the saws you've mentioned and what you want is the best fence system with a ton of power. For me the Bosch is by far the best and the Makita a very close second. https://www.kmstools.com/bosch-10-portable-table-saw-136 Good luck
  13. well said albertatrout. The devil's is always in details.
  14. I own a pair of freestones that need a sole replacement, on one of the boot need the midsole replaced, uppers are in perfect shape. Got a quote from a Simm certified cobbler in Van $98 to do the repair. Ouch, $40.00 more I can buy a new pair. Any good cobbler in Calgary.
  15. Will be heading down in a couple of weeks with dog in tow to attend the Cowboy Ball in Cowley and a little fishing. Anyone know of any type of ( cabins, motel or hotel) accomadations that are dog freindly. Thanks Ray
  16. all this nostalia makes me want to get my pre 1980 fenwick fiberlite out for a cast.
  17. I mostly fish on a very large lake with very long narrow shoreline shoals with extreme drop offs. Fish tend to cruise as expected on the drop and shoals. I find that the finder I'm using now is adequate for determining depth and structure but that's about it. Fish tend to really move around and rarely stay in any one place for very long. I'm thinking that a side scan would help in locating pods of fish as they cruise along the drop. Plan would be to troll about 50' off the drop till locating fish than anchor up. Action slows down or none existent just keep moving along. Has anyone used a fishin buddy 120 for this purpose. Ray
  18. Check out this site. Vapen rods. And good deals on reels. http://www.mrfc.com/MadisonRiverShopping/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=4
  19. have tried scandals, need the ankle support due to a past injury.
  20. need a new pair of wet wading boots. Do not like to use my wader boots, just to sloppy of a fit. Need something with a fairly tight fit without neo socks, lots of ankle support and lite as possible, thanks in advance ray
  21. Did our annual 4 night trip this fall, first night we planned to stay at Must Be Nice it was a boulder field so we we're forced to to poach one night just down from Cottonwood across from the big mud wall, which is still in good condition. Next day we checked out every island as we floated our way down stream hoping to set up camp on the big island just below the Highwood, all were boulder fields, had to keep going. All of the island were in the same condition. We did find one island ( thanks Berry for the advice) in good shape across from Jensen's spent two nights and trailered the boat out at Jensen's instead of Carsland. We we're both amazed on how the flood had affected the river and it's island. Good luck on your trip and bring an army cot or sleep in a hammock. One good thing no shoratge of fire wood. RAY
  22. airflow 40+ or scandi on a 4 weight switch rod. Fewer issues with super long leaders. Way fewer tangles. Can easly roll cast 50'.
  23. Dubbing loop technigue is interesting. Never seen it done like that before. Handy trick.
