  1. Thanks..was looking toward the nymphing side of things.....
  2. New to the Bow and it's been great so far. It seems to be my impression(from what I have read here) that midges are the way to go this time of year and into the winter. Just wondering if you have any suggestions for specific midge patterns I can tie (colors, size)? Also any thoughts on other patterns that are known to pick up fish later in the year? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!! Phillip
  3. Thanks for the responses. Just a question.what are the small red and chartreuse copper john's representing?? Midges?
  4. New to Calgary and looking to do an overnight float on the Bow before it gets too cold. Have a small inflatable raft and will mostly be fishing from the bank. Thinking of doing Police to McKinnions or McKinnions to Carseland. Wondering which float would be more productive at this time of year? Also other than SJW's, Boatmen, and bwo's what other types of nymphs would be effective this time of year. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have the time feel free to tag along. Thanks in advance. Phillip
  5. Hello Again! Made a post a few months ago about moving to Calgary and got a few great responses...thanks again! I have finally made it to Calgary(via BC for the last several years, and Newfoundland originally) and am beginning to settle in. Just got back from a few weeks on the Skeena and am getting the itch to fish( took all of two days). Have moved to the sunnyside area and have been exploring the river the last few evenings looking for potential places to fish and it is looking promising. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for fishing this stretch. It is my understanding that browns use the upper stretches of river to spawn so maybe I should be avoiding this section altogether???? Also, looks like I am going to be free for the next couple of weeks so if anyone is looking for someone to fish/drift/shuttle with or wants to take pity on me and help me get my head around the Bow in any way, I would be greatly indebted. Hope to here from you soon. Phillip
  6. Hello, It so happens life has brought me to Calgary through no choice of my own (you'll understand my apprehension soon.. ) My girlfriend has taken a position at the UofC and we will be moving to Calgary for at least the next two years. The sad thing is that I am moving from steelheading heaven... Terrace BC . I have decided to make the best of it and try and get my head around the fishing in Southwestern Alberta/Calgary. I do not have much experience with the technical aspects of trout fishing (growing up in Newfoundland we fished for Atlantics and Sea Run Browns primarily and in Terrace Trout were pretty Suicidal for eggs and fry) but have already spent the last several months reading up and "think" I have a pretty good handle on things. However I realize the only way to get to truly know a fishery(I only have two years....) is to fish it with people who know it. So this is my plea to you. If you ever want or need someone row, someone to shuttle rafts with, someone to tie flies with, someone who won't think your crazy fishing at 3 am or in minus 3, someone to shoot the *hit with, maybe even some intelligent conversation(if that's what your into),, etc I am 100 % down for whatever. Also looking for peolpe to share gas for Skeena trips as there will be many. Going to be in Calgary for a few days in early August to find a place and then making the final move in early September. Hopefully September is going to be pretty open for me so I will have LOTS of time to get out and explore. So if you are free or have any wise words of wisdom feel free to get in touch. Looking forward to hopefully meeting many of you on the river soon!! Phillip
