  1. this contest is strictly to pay homage to tyers, both widely known and unheard of, that have had a significant impact on our own tying experiences, techniques and patterns...an homage may be made to a tyer by more than entrant...a brief explanation as to why you chose your tyer as well as an original pattern entry originated by that tyer (i.e.. paying homage to Gary Lafontaine with a Deep Sparkle Pupa or Mike Lawson with a No Hackle, etc.)...i don't know how well this one's gonna work but i have been tossing this idea around for awhile and i figured we'd give it a go...any questions, PM me and i'll get back to you as soon as i can...entry deadline by Sunday, Feb. 3 by 9 PM...have fun!!!
  2. that orange stuff is awesome...removes some wicked oil stains off the hands after working under a vehicle...plus it comes with a nice little scrubby brush (bonus!)...
  3. i say go beaded unless the fish are pressured and leery of flashy flies...if that's the case, then go au naturel...
  4. 1st: Don 2nd: Terry 3rd: Gary
  5. or body parts to shrivel and wither away.... is that pic of the fly when wet or as is? what's the recipe if you don't mind me asking?
  6. as did atlanta...
  7. guess my midge sucks the dog's hind teet on this one...like i said before, i hate losing...lol
  8. sorry to bug ya brent but can you get a photo that's a bit brighter...hard to see the details...thanks...
  9. ,------\ {}O-------O{}O-------O |__, hook...."O" ring...shank...."O" ring....shank don't know if that's any better...lmao
  10. sequence from back of rig to front... hook -> "O" ring -> shank -> "O" ring -> shank
  11. nice tie...it'll definitely work...elk hair has buoyancy similar to deer hair so it'll be fine...as for under fur, i hold the clipped hair by the tips and flick out the shorter stuff and then pull the fur out...takes a bit of practice as all new things do but you will get the hang of it soon enough...keep up the good ties...
  12. you will...one day...when you walk into the room barefoot...
  13. i'm not even gonna touch that comment or this thread with a ten foot pole...i'll leave this one for brent...
  14. my net is 20" end to end chris so i figure at least 22" for the bow...

  17. and who says tyers aren't innovative eh?...cool idea...
  18. thanks al...i'll be giving that one a try tomorrow...strength tests at my desk last night gave me some confidence to give it a go...
  19. good tie albanna...what'd you use for the body and rib on that shuttlecock midge?
  20. i use either piano wire or dacron backing, looped through the trailing hooks eye, and then threaded through a bead or two before being tied onto a shank, bobby pin, cotter pin, or another hook with the hook clipped off...if you use a bobby pin or a cotter pin, make sure you use a split ring for attaching your leader...
  21. make a choice albanna and post the recipe...
  22. i've never seen a pike do that...i've had bulls try to nip at me when i was trying to unhook them but i've never seen blood before...
  23. seriously...fly fishers who know alot about alcohol...are you really that surprised...
  24. i usually have at least one sighting per year...ironically, it's always on smoking hot days when i'm fishing with my dad and he decides to take his shirt off to wet it in the river...uncanny resemblance there...
