  1. I heard from a member who's bro-in-law works for CP, that it is Jet fuel in the containers!! Yikes!!
  2. Gang, I had a request get passed down to me... A landowner (below gravel pit) has had some cattle stranded and needs to get to them to get them some food and move them to another pasture.... I guess they have been stranded without food since the beginning, so time is of the essence. Needs some transport across the river. Can any of you jet guys lend a hand?! I have a copy of the contact info on my cell... PM me and I can pass it along. Don't have a lot of info at this point but I can probably get some more if necessary... I have contact info (name/numbers) and general address... Thanks, Peter
  3. TU does this with volunteers!
  4. Salmon are anadramous!!
  5. A raft with a rowing frame is not as easy to row as a drift boat (doesn't track as easily and takes more effort to manouver), not as easy to stand up and cast (even with a casting platform) and will get tossed around easily in the wind (not sure there is a big difference compared to a high side driftboat). Stores easier as you can just deflate & roll and break down the frame. Obviously a raft is better in class III rapids and greater (with an experienced operator) as that's a raft's primary purpose. Drift Boat is specific to fishing, raft is not, but does the job "OK". That being said, if I was given one or found one at a decent price I would probaly get it! Best to consider a quality manufacture (Aire) as opposed to a cheapo (Saturn). Materials and care will influence longevity. A good quality raft used specifically for fishing that is well taken care of can last up to 15 years (A raft used for White Water rafting, not as long - Commercial operators rotate their rafts every few years - after numerous repairs). A fishing buddy has access to one and we take it out quite often, I have also been a WW rafting guide in Idaho. Consider something at least 12'. P
  6. Talk to Murray he uses one... A few other (similar) systems out there as well... We use a McMerdo Fast Find PLB - Used only in Emergency Situations to "send in the troops" (for rescue), as my wife is usually with me so don't need to contact her on a regular basis. We also have rescue insurance through the American Alpine Club (Up to $10,000 with a few specifics. It is free with membership - $175 for a family membership annually) as we also do a lot of backcountry skiing, canoeing and backpacking. So a little bit different then the SPOT type systems. From what I have read with the SPOT, tree coverage will limit the sat signal (maybe that was just with the older model - which had a lot of other issues, as well - I think they improved it). For mostly remote river stuff should be fine, though the yearly subscription can add up. P
  7. Hope he's not fishing streamers!! Gives a whole new perspective on "chuck and duck"!! LoL
  8. No I think it's directly related to it being in a PP!!
  9. Well for starters... If you are referrring to your wife as the "ball and chain" you may want to change that approach and be less derogitory, might help your cause!!
  10. Over priced everything! It is after all the Sham-pede!

  12. Brad, I remember when I played Pee Wee (albeit not at the highest level) back in the '80s kids were still developing their (basic) skills and it was totally awkward so adding hitting to the mix was WAYYYYYY too much for them to comprehend when the basics were more then enough... Bantum is a much more appropriate level to intagrate hitting IMHO.
  13. The other point is at pee wee, the kids aren't equal as far as size! Some kids have started their growth spirt, others haven't yet... So they are not playing (hitting) on a level playing field (rink). Just my thoughts. P
  14. Head down to the Oldman area as there are a lot of oprions to choose from all within an hour or so... Bring a decent Scotch if you are going to pop into "The Cutty Hut" down at Racehorse!
  15. Thanks Pete! (though Mike is in Spain presently - we did the family celebrations last weekend)! Happy Birthday to you, as well! I hope you have a good one also! Cheers! Peter P.S. Caught lots of pike on the weekend and will catch a few more with the gang on Sunday!
  16. Hard to tell... If we get any rain this week like we are supposed to, it could very well be blown out... Unfortunatley, we are on a hold pattern for the time being...
  17. Make sure to check the regs when you get your license as some sections are still closed. Run off is about to start (water is starting morph), so get out there while the getting is still good! The Bow is 95% public access (within the city limits)... Have fun!
  18. I guess that's the main disadvantage of not having any rule/regs/legislation regarding guiding in Alberta, as well as not having enough conservation officers to enforce the existing rules...
  19. And all the fly shops that run classes and guides that guide within FCPP! quote name="bcube" post="171351" timestamp="1368475613"] tell that to the guides within the oldman gap..
  20. My understanding is if you are running a business ( accepting $ for a service) within a PP you require a permit (whether teaching fly casting in Fish Creek Park or or renting out a camper in Dutch creek). Business permits 47 No person shall carry on a business in a provincial park or recreation area unless that person is the holder of a permit for that purpose or has entered into an agreement for that purpose with the Minister under section 10© of the Act. 21. We were out last night and I decided to toss a streamer as nymphing wasn't working for any of us and I only saw one rise the entire 4 hours... Anyway, I must have dropped my shoulder as I buried my streamer right into the back of my casting hand (middle knuckle)!! Funny thing was, I didn't feel a thing (going in or out)!! Hurts a little this morning however!! LoL P
