  1. It would be interesting to see the original copy as I'm sure there is a lot more context to the quotes the editors chose! Equally interesting are some of the comment from the readers/tweeters/facebookers...
  2. Barge cement works great as well. And alpine shoes ( Kensington Boot) has strange hours as Gary is half retired.
  3. If you support this initiative, I encourage you to sign the petition below, if you don't, don't... A century of clear cut logging, oil and gas development and out-of-control off-road vehicle abuse has left the headwaters of the South Saskatchewan River fragmented and scarred. Natural river flows are 12% lower than in the mid twentieth century. Climate change will only make things worse. Alberta is about to release a South Saskatchewan regional land use plan that was prepared with wide citizen consultation. But special interest groups with a stake in business-as-usual want to ensure it contains no limits on off-road abuse, increases clear cut logging, and promotes more development. Those who care about healthy landscapes, clean rivers and future water security need a chance to inform the government that they support a plan that keeps the mountains and foothills green and healthy by establishing new parks, restricting off-road vehicles to official trails, replacing clear cutting with restoration logging, and repairing landscapes damaged by past industrial and motorized abuse. Healthy intact headwaters don't just produce more and better water - they yield better fishing and hunting, more secure and productive habitat for elk, grizzlies and native trout, and the aesthetic and ecological qualities that yield the finest of recreational environments. http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Treat_our_Alberta_headwaters_like_the_treasures_they_are/
  4. I would suggest that you flip the net around (opposite the web photos that is illustrated in the link you provided) that will lessen the chance of hooking a branch/twig. Plus the handle is in a better position for you to grab!
  5. Bob, Wear your hip pack over the shoulder (like a courier bag) with the waist buckle around your waist, and you should still be able to attach your net with a magnetic keeper to your neck strap with a little adjustment...
  6. So then lets talk about baiting!! How is that hunting!!
  7. A shot griz has zero chance of survival! A released fish (handled properly) has almost 100% chance of survival!!
  8. Grizzly boars kill cubs so they can mate with the sow as she'll start ovulating again! Kill the boars and the mating stops and eventually no more cubs!
  9. So what you are saying that a griz hunt should be authorized for the sole purpose of someone getting a "trophy"!! Yeah, that's logical!! And before you get your tightie whities in a knot, no I'm not anti hunting, but I am anti trophy and grizzly hunting!
  10. Too bad 420 was banned! He could have set Rick up! LoL
  11. Yup! The grizzlies are there for his entertainment!
  12. Not sure of this, but we might need to check with both the city and prov gov as there might be permit needed for liability reasons, etc. As this will take place on city property and/or in a prov park...
  13. No! But you can under dry! LoL
  14. x 2 Depending on the type of gear (bamboo for example) it may not be appropriate to donate to an org like PHWs, but they and other orgs can always use cash!!.
  15. The business referenced earlier in this post does (pretty sure none of the shops, sponsors or otherwise do) - maybe it's just a seasonal business... Also I think Sport's Rent, rents as well, I know they rent float tubes...
  16. Rob, I don't think it's too much work at all (though I'm sure there was a hint of sarcasm within your post). What we do is anytime we make a "dryable" meal for a regular dinner at home, we just make more (double the recipe) and portion out the excess and then dry it (or put it in the freezer and dry it later)...
  17. MEC also has kevlar & waterproof laces as well!
  18. THEICEMAN (Matt) and his wife organized the last one I participated in 3 or 4 maybe 5 years ago (1st time I met Rick, Max, L2K, Murray, Cheeler, Bcubed, Cdone, Dune and a few others). Did a really good job too! Got a lot of sponsorship (interesting that most if not all was from non sponsoring shops and organizations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Had great draw prizes (won myself a $400 Bauer reel) and food from Spoumbos! Pictures are up on here somewhere!! Held it out at Policemen's flats b/c of some provincial park regs, if I remember correctly... And the bbq at FCP. Quite a few went from Glenmore down, 22x up and down, and both sides of Policemen's Flats!
  19. Super easy to dry food in a conventional oven. We did that for a few years before getting a dehydrator... Just spread out whatever you are drying as thin as possible on a cookie sheet (may need to use some parchment paper or a silicon mat so things don't stick especially liquid, i.e. spaghetti sauce - it's a pain in the ass scraping plus you may lose some of the food). Set your oven at it's absolutely lowest setting and leave the door open about 3" - 4" - also works a bit better if you use a small fan to blow into the oven (I used a table fan on a chair), unless you have a convection oven. Most things take about 8 - 10 hours to dry. The one draw back is the entire house smells like whatever you are drying! LoL. We can use the dehydrator in the garage... A couple of suggestions... If you are drying any kind of meat (not ground) make sure to slice it as thin as possible! It will rehydrate much faster on the other end. Also, bring an extra empty 1 litre wide mouth Nalgene with you as you can put the dried food in there the morning before the evening meal and put some boiling water aprox 1" above the level of the food (if you can check it at some point during the day to add more water if necessary - might not be possible depending on how easy it is to access your food as it will be hung) - but be careful not to add too much water as it will ruin your food. You may need to experiment a little until you get it worked out.
  20. My wife and I dehydrate all our own! Ezzy Peezy - bought a used dehydrator off of MEC gear swap site for $20!! Have a bunch of great recipes Moroccan stew, veggie chile, thai green curry. All the stuff you buy has way too much salt and is super expensive! Have learned a few things over the years about prep. to make things easier when rehydrating, so if you have any specific questions, ask away!
  21. Nice one Rob! Classic!
  22. Very cool story Gary! Were you up at Corral Creek/Hidden Lake area? Or further up towards Skoki? I've seen wolverine tracks but never a sighting? Thanks for sharing! P
  23. You know what they say about opinions and assholes Darrin?!
  24. I guess I don't know my own strength Brent! LoL
