  1. Took a client out yesterday. Amazing scenery and a lot of big fish! Awesome day!
  2. There used to be a parks office at the Harry Hayes, then they moved to 8th & 8th...Not sure if they are still there... There has to be a number you can call? Call the Banff office and ask them, they should be able to tell you!
  3. Definitely something you don't expect from a guide that normally has a good reputation... Low-holed = when you are fishing a run from riffle to tailout and someone starts fishing the same "hole" just down from you. Sometimes they crowd you, even cast where you are casting or cast over your line.
  4. Interesting... The last time we floated the Bow, this same guide low holed us twice on the same day! Tried to call him out on it and he just ignored me...
  5. My pref is to use a small swivel (sz 12) instead as it helps prevent line twist and can act as a weight (or as a stop for when you use spilt shot). I know some don't like this technique as it acts as a hinge when casting multiple fly rigs, but this hasn't been an issue for me as I try to open my loops. It's an option...
  6. Bridge Curious, Where did you get the formula you use, or through trial and error... Have you tried it with heavier rods? Both single and double? P
  7. That's why it's important to do a test cast with either the rod/reel you own vs the rod/reel you are considering buying. A few years back I brought a loaded reel to the Expo to test cast rods. Definitely HATED it on a BVK (Tip heavy) but there were a few others that it felt really balanced on (Winston and a couple of higher end sage rods - all were considerably lighter then a BVK - to which I am not a fan - I am entitled to my opinion). I am definitely an advocate for trying before buying!! Add to the mix that casting stroke is another determining factor for an over all purchase and there's a definite advantage to buying at a dedicated reputable fly shop!!
  8. Yeah I was going to try and embed that clip, but it wasn't working for me!!
  9. I hope you have his permission to post his photo on the interweb
  10. Don't forget to check Kijiji in BC, as well!!
  11. Where's Hawgstopper when you need him!! He's famous for his Bow River hook set!! Yank it like your pulling teeth!! LoL Google "strip set" which works well if you are swinging streamers. You can always "yank from the bank" if your are "chucking and ducking"!! P
  12. I fish the biggest dark stone under an indi next to a seam or undercut bank!
  13. Deb and I were able to take some folks up to an AMAZING lake that I have only been into the area during the winter!

If your floating line no longer floats!
  15. I guess one needs to define what "mid-range" is, as far as cost!!
  16. Didn't see it, was told all the ponds were whiped out by the floods. We definitely hiked in at least 1 km plus!!
  17. Nope, but I saw the same one, getting mine out of that same tree, I'm sure!!
  18. CDone (Colin) and I got out a few weeks ago for some skinny water action! This stream was known for being taken over by Brookies... The cool thing was, we only caught Cutties and even a juvenile Bully!! It was a great day to breakout the 7' 2 wt Winston BIII LS!! Colin making it look easy! Super challenging, but a lot of fun!! I kept looking over my shoulders expecting to see some large furry omnivores
  19. Don, I guess that's something you need to take up with AEP, then!! Good luck! P
  20. The lake is private. Just like pond at calaway park, or pond on an acreage or community lake. Pay to play has it's privledges, I guess!! If a guide guides there they have to follow their specific rules/regs. If a guide, guides on public waterways must follow AB rules and regs (hopefully 😋).
  21. It's a private business,that's why!!
