Trout In An Aquarium
Brownstone replied to Brownstone's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Thanks RH, the larger fish is aggressive, it grabbed my thumb one day when i was messing around with a power head and it will eat worms right out of my hand, the smaller one, not so aggressive and pretty shy. I had to seperate the two a few weeks back, to keep things fair and civil during feeding the large fish was being to be aggressive towards the small one, which I totally expected after awhile. didn't name the fish since these two are just a trial run, I plan on raising Arctic Char or Brookies pending availabilty in the spring, although I have become attached to them. the set up & fish are suprisingly very low maintainace, I run two Fulval 403 canister filters whcih combined do approx. 600 gal/hour, and a 300 gph powerhead at the opposite end to maintain water movment, solid waste from trout is fairly large so does not settle into the rock/gravel bottom and moves well to the filter intakes. since I set it up in july, the water has not given me any problem with ammoina or nitrates what so ever. Feeding consists of mainly superworms and crickets, I'll flip rocks on the river and bring home treats occasionally, there are still a couple leeches living in the tank I see from time to time, they must of found refuge in the rocks before becoming a meal. -
Trout In An Aquarium

Tried a few caddis larve from the river, they don't travel so well (dead within 30 min) next attempt will be with oxygenated water, nymphs, leeches and crane fly larve travel very well in a Timmies cup and the trout love them. -

Portable Gas Powered Water Pumps
Brownstone replied to a topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
cover it in with plywood or something to keep it warm and to avoid it sucking in really cold air, If the crankcase vent into the air filter is on an upward slope it will fill with condensation and freeze. Ive ran lots of gas generators in the winter and this is the #1 killer also make sure your fuel is clean, add a drop of gas line antifreeze and your good to 40 below. -

Costco carries honda knock-offs made by Champion Power Equipment thay are cheap and work well, I wouldn't recommend them for long term use but would be great for making rinks. I believe they are under 200.00 -

I spent more than enough time on the ice growing up, and I can tell you 8 inches of ice is more than enough for a small group of people to skate, play hockey, fish, snowmobile etc. provided its good ice, blue in color rather than whitish. rule of thumb we use to use for vehicles was about a foot, depending on how fast you were driving you may require more.

Winterizing The Pontoon Boat
Brownstone replied to sgwinkel's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I keep my fish cat 13 pontoons laid out on the carpet in the spare bedroom downstairs, like RH said best to roll loosely rather than fold if your tight on space and be sure not to unroll when it is still cold or frozen, make sure mice are not going to be a problem wherever you store it. -
Very interesting and informative, sounds like they share a lot of the same problems Bull Trout face. one fish that I would truly love having the pleasure to catch. Thanks for the post Taco

Can I Get Y'all's Opinion On This Picture?

could defiantly see a hitch making that kind of mark, but looks like more than 5 days rust to me. -

I think Kipper did make a difference when he first came to the Flames, He had something to prove, and he did & the team became reliant on him to play 110%, 110% of the time. alot to ask for in my opinion. I think the flames will end up with a situation like Montreal had on their hands with Roy. my 0.02

Ive seen lots of videos from the US where they nymph those bounce rigs, (minus the 3 times leader). I use that same set up without the indie with a shortline to fish deep fast runs usually with lots of weight >3 BB splitties, works great but I seldom run anything longer than a 12 foot leader, I can;t imagine that set up being to friendly to cast/fish, with a leader 3 times your depth. As for picking up cabbage, thats where the fish are and thats where you want your rig to be, I find weight on top of your rig better than below, then you know all your flies are near bottom.

Loved my Pentax w30, great pics.great rechargeable battery life..succumb to a very innocent drop that I honestly think it should have survived .. have dropped other cams harder, first camera I ever owned that never died of water damage. great camera, maybe I was just unlucky..the next one will be something different just because.

wow..crazy pictures, spent quite of bit of time in the bush around Tumbler and that does not look like the type of forest I've seen in that area, but could be i guess. some people hunt, some people fish, some people collect stamps..if its done legally .. who am I to judge? nice bear buddy -
Triploid Brookies will grow more than large enough to eat Perch (but will they?) and they grow very fast, They will live with Rainbows, A friend of mine hopes to have Triploid Brookies for sale in the spring, If thats an option you are looking at.

2nd Generation Ford Expedition
Brownstone replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
nice rigs for sure, drove one for a bit as a company vehicle a few years ago..It was an 03 if I remember correctly, hard on fuel though like Golfman said, and I'd stay away from the 5.4 l engine in the Fords . I have one in my pick-up and spark plug issues are common and they are near damn impossible to replace yourself.
