  1. palmer ranch? http://www.palmerranchalberta.com/links.html
  2. in no particular order: a full season in new zealand fishing some of the famous chalk streams in the uk trophy labrador brookies arctic char [may fave eating fish] up north another go at the trophy pike up north much more time in northern bc for steelhead & salmon fishing some of the 'untouched/secret' streams that drain the queen charlottes time on the 'classic rivers' in the west like the blackfoot a full season exploring south america's rivers & lakes many more days on the bow exploring farther afield in my own backyard finally catching a decent bullie on that river in bc a swing thru russia & mongolia for taimen & salmon another real go at the saltwater flats for tarpon, bones, etc exploring the waters in nordic europe so i figure i need 10 years and about $1.62 million, and i'm ready to go... actually the one that's on the top of my list really is being able to teach my daughters or their children to fly fish someday. my own have no interest yet, but my hope is as adults they can come to appreciate that it's not so much as about the fishing, as it is relaxing, meditating, being with friends or alone, outside in tune with your surroundings and exploring something new everytime you show up.
  3. i see there's some heavy equipment moving into place on the south side this am, so i assume that things are starting shortly?
  4. amen to that - well spoke
  5. good one! i guess she probably would not appreciate the new waders [in my size] then?
  6. can't argue with the opinions posted, obviously many posting here took the time to vote, but the last federal election had the lowest voter turnout in history. apathetic. much like the standard view of canadian politics in general. much like the conservative response to the current issues and thier contempt for truly creating a non-partisan government [as they stated they would in the throne speech]. don't get me wrong, i don't think any other party would have been any better... but see obama's response: keep your friends close and your 'enemies closer'. personally i find the recent turn of events fascinating [it's the timing that is very very very poor]. it's historical, i've forced my kids to pay attention here. it's not undemocratic or illegal...this is the canadian political system working as it was designed. the three-headed monster was enabled [which actually represents a larger portion of the people who did in fact vote] by apathy on the part of the voting population at large. congrats, we got what we paid for. hopefully everyone who is now really pissed off gets their asses off the sofa and picks up the phone or types that e-mail.
  7. awesome. that one is on my 'to do' list...
  8. yep, she is 70. she could be my gram...'cept my gram never looked like this [to my knowledge]. anyways, glossy memories of youth aside, i'd still chose time with her over something like plasti-pam and her ilk any day [added bonus with pam: she's a main spokesperson for peta].
  9. that's very a good idea.
  10. i know i'm going to be dating myself here...but i'd hafta go with diana rigg - the original mrs. emma peel on the avengers tv show. something about a karate chick in leather jumpsuits beating up the baddies left an impression on me as a wee lad. she was smart, cool, and the real bonus is, she's a self-described 'fly-fishing tart'. i dunno how she'd look in the jumpsuit at 70 though. waders probably better.
  11. got mine as a prize at the river clean-up [thanks much] and it's way way way better than any other alternative. it should be standard issue equipment for all anglers. clipped onto my neck landyard and there it shall remain. good invention, very useful.
  12. on a slow day...
  13. we booked a guide down near tampa fl. 15 years ago, he related how henry & italo were famous down there for fishing in a marine park that is perm. closed to angling. was salmon fishing near campbell river a few yrs back and they showed up to fish the area we were in. after about an hour we left, we could not stand it anymore. i'm glad that show 'went away'...they were embarassing. i often wondered if it was some kind of inside joke or fly fishing prevention message... speaking of inside jokes...there's someone on this thread that needs to 'go away'...
  14. that's actually a very good point, as your personal style may mean a certain rod is better suited to you. quality issues aside, every time this topic comes up i see negative comments about rods/brands that i like and rods/brands i don't like so much getting props. i learned the hard way - i would not buy a rod without a test drive.
  15. wish i wasn't such a cabbage today...was good to meet and looking fwd to next time
  16. fierce.
  17. nice! do you charge extra to rip circles around guys in pontoons or roostertail w&w's?
  18. agree he's got some legacy issues to deal with...king ralph was too long in the big chair and he lost focus & perspective. it's been pretty soft gig to run this province thru some very very fat times: keep the big resource players happy, do right by joe average [in this province that usually means not liberal/socialist] and you'll get re-elected. lots of people made out fairly well in the last decade [what they did with that it is of course another story]. oh, and don't forget your ralph bucks... ed's got his hands full more now for sure. i certainly believe considering his background & home turf he's got the voice of rural average joe in his ear. i think he tried to solve some things for that voice in the first while? will he screw up so bad he runs things into the ground? highly doubtful. don't forget he's the face on the front cover, and it's a thick book [caucus] with deep pockets behind the scenes [big c or little c]. i believe he's taking regular readings from the book now...if he's got any clue he'll learn to balance all the interests a little better and given time he could emerge as 'steady eddie'. maybe. we'll see how much af a personal hit he'll take as a result of the price of oil dropping below the magic number. you may regard ed as not particularly stellar, but seriously would you prefer taft [nothing against him - he's actually a sharp dude] or mason? and you do remember teflon don getty was in charge for a while, right?
