steelhead are cool. awesome. i've done it a few times, guided. i have contracted the fever. i get why people pursue them in the shittiest weather and sleep on rocks and the in back of trucks [i'm not quite there yet]. my last trip, we hooked and landed on swung intruders, dries, and a swung nymph. made me wonder about using a more traditional nymphing set up. i was curious to try it, however, i can't say that it'd be the most effective way to fish for me, based on where you are...maybe one run we fished out of them all i could've effectivly cast/presented a dead drifted nymph. in the end didn't get the opportunity to explore that...we stuck with the guides program, and we caught fish. don't know if a dead drifted something would've made them more interested in a take. i suspected not...they seemed to like movement and some action. was a curiousity thing. the 'traditions' associated with any type of fishing will continue to evolve i suspect...i know that there are some who think it's blasphemy to throw a tube fly, or intruder. i got *hit on once [seriously] for not having a spey rod. wtf. i get the tug is the drug. i've gotten way better at the swung presentation. i now completely understand why a 2 hander would be a good choice, and i'm gonna get me one. but guys who cast singlehanded and do it well got game. i have also done the pencil lead gig, and centerpinning, or whatever the heck that is. not my scene. but yes does seem to be more effective. we caught quite a few. but i found that to be very much a case of diminishing returns. each to his own...why haters gotta hate? i'd rather throw flies. i'd rather fight one on my flyrod as opposed to on 10 on gear. don't know how it'd feel to catch them on a nymph. would it work any better or worse? no idea. was curious to see. doesn't seem to be very popular so there's not a lot of info on that i could find. i stuck with what i got taught, how i got schooled by the guides i have used. for me, for the fish of 1000 casts, the tug is indeed the drug. or now, as of this last trip...that huge head sucking down that basketball-sized skated fly - that shakes you up really bad. like it gets into your head, like right into your brain... *hit, now i have to go back again...like rfn. thought i had it out of me for a year... when do we leave?

correct. the 'dry floodplain' can also suddenly become a very active river during a rain or storm event. the river is not far below the surface...there have been occasions where people have become stranded. the other structure mentioned is a 'throttle' that limits the amount of diverted water that can flow into minnewanka during runoff or a storm, redirecting the overflow down the old channel.

last fall when my rod got snapped, i finally did too. guides? often worst offenders. very very sad but true. "i have paying clients". lol. oh and the wannabees. another special class. what the hell is wrong with asking and a little communication before you excercise your god given right to fish wherever/whenever/no matter what? i always gotta remember that world class water running through a city of a million+ is gonna see it's share of congestion, bad manners, rudeness, elitists, idiots, noobs, poachers, and general asshats. jets? well, that's another matter altogether... and another thread.

Low Slope/flat Roof Repair & Replacement
duanec replied to duanec's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
oh yeah. so when we had the big earlton fire here...insurance rates for flat roofers went thru the stratosphere. 75% of the companies that used to do that type of roof bailed. so...fewer competitors, higher prices, fewer choices. -
Low Slope/flat Roof Repair & Replacement

sure. good advice. the former owner is awol. in the last few months i have been visited by former business partners, revenue canada, a few ugly collections people and most recently by the cops. pretty sure that's a dead avenue except to pay more lawyers. i will tear a strip off the inspectors however: -the waiver you sign when you have a home inspection relieves them of anything. the place i used were idiots. i will soon name them here. - the 2 year old roof inspection report i got a copy of from the former owner? well, i spoke to the guy in novemeber prior to purchase[roof is good, at least 5-8 years good life, etc] and now he seems to have vanished too. -
Low Slope/flat Roof Repair & Replacement

the story i got last night is this: whoever redid the roof last time put down the bottom membrane only but not the top cap [asphalt layer]. and the skylights are hooped, which may in fact be the problem. the skylight dude was very informative. the membrane may be saved, but still gonna cost a small fortune to install the new top cap layer and new skylights. -
my home of 6 months has a very low pitch roof that has an edpm membrane [or something like that] on it. it had some odd flashing details that didn't quite make sense to me [and i wanted to get addressed] but the purchase came along with a 2009 inspection report that said the roof was still solid. well, i have a significant leak now [so much for inspections] and am getting quotes from contractors for 'repair' or replacement ranging from $16-50k. yes. fifty thousand dollars. like, but a real nice new vehicle and park it on your roof and never use it. my suggested options have ranged from 'start over' to 'the original install was a 2 part edpm system and they only put the bottom layer on'. i've seen similar house roofs in town with everything shingles to tar/gravel to edpm, but have been told shingles 'not a wise choice' and so on. so, i need some good expert advice and guidance. like, yesterday. anyone out there help me decide what gauge of shotgun to put in my mouth?
