Tee Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hey all, Trying to find a good online store for materials. I prefer paypal sites because you gotta try to mitigate the risks for Credit Cards. Anyone got any favorites? Quote
Flytyer Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 You can't beat a real outlet as you can inspect the materials first hand BEFORE putting out your hard earned cash. I have never been totally satisfied with material other than hooks that i've bought on line. Quote
Lundvike Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I have had success with TMS who is now a sponsor of this site. Though I have never tried them but the Fly Tyers dungeon was recommended to me. Quote
SilverDoctor Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Depends what you need, if it's run of the mill type materials on line is OK, but then you might as well buy local and not incur shipping. If it's more exotic be careful. Like Flytyer, I've bought some real junk not worth the shipping online. Nice to see what you are buying. What do you need? Quote
sirocco Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I like thornes as well. Good return policy and free shipping anywhere in the world. Quote
Golfman09 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I was also happy with Thornes ....aka TMS. I didn't buy anything really specialized but their prices were great on several small items. They seem to stock a good variety of stuff....pretty much everything I was looking for when I placed my last order....here in less than 5 business days. However, I don't have anywhere local to buy being in the Hat......if you can get to a shop I would recommend it as well. Quote
jordo Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 TMS has also been good to me. Prices are great and as already mentioned prompt and free shipping. Quote
Tee Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Silver Doctor, Wasn't really looking for anything in perticular. Edmonton doesn't have a great selection of shops other than the usuals (Fishin hole, Wholesale sports). I would really like to find some Mink Zonkers, but other than that, I was just curious what I could get online. If not feathers/fur, I could still get hooks, beads and synthetics online. Quote
Guest Dennis59 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Tee I've used both of these Doc's fly box and BearLodge Angler. The prices are very reasonable. Tight Lines Always Dennis S Quote
chiasson Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Fly Fishing On The Web has a great series of videos for a variety of patterns and an online store where you can purchase material kits for each. Check em out: http://ffotw.com/ Quote
Guest girlsfishtoo Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Thanks for the info re: Thornes http://www.thornesmanufacturing.com Nice to find a Canadian site with free shipping! Quote
Tee Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Hey all, So since my post, I've gotten some materials from www.thornesmanufacturing.com. I'm pleased to say that it was quite convienent. I ordered a few packs of hungarian, some phesant tail, and thread. I wanted to get beads and mink but they were out of stock. There was, however, a bunch of stuff I didn't order that they thew in. ( not mispacked, as they had bits of paper that said "Complements of TMS". Very quick and convienent. Plus, who doesn't like to get a package to open when they get home from work. Quote
sirocco Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Are TMS prices in US or Canadian funds? Canadian. Quote
Taco Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 TMS has hard to beat prices too, I've been buyin' quite a bit of stuff from them lately Quote
Inconnu Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I've been dealing with them for a couple of years now, never had a bad experience and the free shipping is a big plus. I still buy from shops in Edmonton, but Fort Sask. is in the neighborhood and you can't always find what you are looking for at any one place. Quote
misterbig Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 just placed an order with TMS.... I will let you know how it turns out. Prices were very good...just hope the delivery is equally as good. m Quote

Slyangler Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Ive used Thomes, Bearlodge Anglers and Doc's fly box in the past, and would definately recommend any of them. I know Thomes utilizes Paypal, but Im not certain about the others. Quote
Kingfisher Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I just recently got a shipment in from Fly Tying Specialites. Absolutely fantastic quality products. I was extremely happy with each and everything I got from them. Yes, it's in the US and with the exchange and the shippping we end up paying a bit more. But it was worth every penny. http://www.flytyingspecialties.com/ Rob Quote
