  4. Hi All, I fricked up, on the above info on the Upper K Lake... Sorry... **Edit**...The last time the Upper lake was stocked with Bows was in 2002... 25,100 were stocked at 23cm. Cheers...Jeff.. Some more info below... This summer, a creel survey was conducted on Upper Kananaskis Lake. The key findings were: the catch rate was 1.0 fish/hour, which is over 7 times higher than it was in 1983 when only rainbow trout were being stocked cutthroat trout comprised 95% of the catch most (94%) of the harvested cutthroat trout had a clipped adipose fin, which means that they were from the batch of 13,900 large (30 cm) cutthroat trout stocked this June.
  5. Hi fish4trout...There will be No more stocking of Rainbows in the upper or lower Lakes...As to trying to get the lakes back to the native species, Cutts and Bulls....However, I don't think the Lower lake will get be back to native, due to the successfulness of the The self sustaining Rainbows that reproduce in the Lower Lake... The last time the Upper lake was stocked with Bows was in 2000... 26,700 were stocked at 23cm. The last time the Lower Lake was stocked with Bows was 1988...In July 194 Bows were stocked at 62.5cm.. and in Aug 1988 there was 20,000 stocked at 16cm. Cheers...Jeff..
  6. Hey thanx, Bigtoad....Working on it.... Cheers...Jeff..

  8. Hi Dave, Thank-you for your concern, no offence taken at all....It Brings up a good point...Just to let everyone know, ASRD is aware of the petition, and we have had total support from them, along with their revision of the petition... Thank-you all for you support and concerns for this fishery....Jeff & Jake... New Proposed Regulations Poster
  9. Hi Fellow Fishers...To make things easier, And to help out, I made up a online petition, As Jake only has dial up internet where he lives, tucked back in the awesome Hills....A Thanx to Harps, from the board for sending me the link to the online petition site... Below, From Jake Gotta...(dekkard).. From dekkard- "Hello All. I attended the Prairies and Southern Rockies Area Joint Roundtable this past Wednesday. Some good topics were discussed and good presentations made by members of ASRD. The Bow River was mentioned along with the dwindling population of the Westslope Cutthroat Trout. 'This species has been identified as Threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). It is currently being considered for listing under the federal Species At Risk Act (SARA).' But that should be mentioned under another thread. It is bothersome though. I love cuttys. The proposed regulation changes that I brought up here on FFC was brought up in the meeting and that is what I would like to discuss in this topic. Some of you have helped me with my previous petition for making a regulation change and I am asking for your help again if you wish. The current regulations for the Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes are: 'Open all year-Trout (except bull trout) limit 3; Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout over 30 cm; Bait Ban.' We feel that these lakes have the potential to provide quality fisheries. To that end, we are proposing that the following regulations be implemented, so as to permit quality fisheries to develop: "Open all year-Trout (except bull trout) limit 1; Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout over 50 cm; Bait Ban." Some of the issues we are faced with are that: Catchable-sized (20-30 cm) Cutthroat Trout are being stocked in both Kananaskis Lakes. Many stocked fish are being harvested shortly after stocking. Current size limit provides no protection for spawners. Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout can grow to a very large size and provide a quality fishery, if allowed to live long enough. I know there are a lot of opinions on what should be done, but we think this is a good route. If you have any other ideas or suggestions please let me know here or send me a pm. Again, I have petitions at several locations in Calgary. I have petitions at Southbow, Wholesale Sports, and Fish Tales. If you have a group of people interested in this I can send you a petition via email. Just pm me the details and I will get one to you and then you can mail it back to me. Thanks again to people like Mike at Southbow...Dave, Terry, and Nancy at Fish Tales...and of course Tyler down at Wholesale. I appreciate all your help. Beedhead may also try and paste an attachment to show you guys what is going on in a little more depth. Oh yeah, thanks to the folks down at SRD and Trout Unlimited." The Proposed Petition/new regs. below...Click on the link at the bottom, if you would would like to sign the petition... ... Cheers... Jake & Jeff.. To: Alberta Sustainable Resource Development The current regulations for the Upper and Lower Kananaskis lakes are: "Open all year-Trout (except bull trout) limit 3; Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout over 30 cm; Bait Ban." We feel that these lakes have the potential to provide QUALITY FISHERIES, provided that the fish are allowed to live long enough. Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout can grow to a very large size (> 70 cm) and live to up to 11 years in the Kananaskis Lakes. For these reasons, we feel that Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes provide the best opportunity for creation of readily accessible QUALITY FISHERIES in the area west of Calgary. This initiative would support SRD's commitment to develop more quality stocked trout fisheries in Alberta, following a survey which showed strong angler support for the development of more quality stocked trout fisheries in Alberta. Thank you so much for your time. Link to Petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/dekkbeed/petition.html
  10. Hi All....To make things easier, and to help out Jake (dekkard) due to the fact Jake has "Dial Up Internet" Where he lives in the ''Awesome Hills'', I have made a online petition....Also a Thanx to Harps, from the board, for sending me the link to the online petition site... Cheers...Jeff.. The link below... http://www.petitiononline.com/dekkbeed/petition.html
  11. p.m. dekkard, he can get you in contact with Guy Woods, Guy could probably steer you in the right direction.....Not a very good idea to start enhancing stream beds, or bucketing Browns without permition...
  12. Some shots from that day....I'm thinkin these fish along with others in the K lakes, are well worth looking after for the future... Cheers...Jeff..
  13. More info below.... Based on length, it appears that the rainbow trout captured on 12 June 2009 represent a mixture of resident and adfluvial rainbow trout. The small (<300 mm) rainbow trout were likely fish that had resided in Boulton Creek since hatching, whereas the large (>400 mm) rainbow trout were likely adfluvial adult fish (Figure 1). The absence of large (>400 mm) fish in the electrofishing conducted in October 1984 supports the assumption that these large fish are adfluvial rainbow trout that just use Boulton Creek for spawning in the late spring/early summer period. Age-at-length data for rainbow trout captured in Boulton Creek in October 1984 indicates that fish resident in Boulton Creek are very slow growing, with mean lengths of 67 mm for age-1 (n=7; range 58–95 mm), 88 mm for age-2 (n=5; range 82–91) and 125 mm for age-3 fish (n=1). Considering the age-length data from 1984, and that electrofishing was conducted earlier in the year in 2009, the size-distribution data suggests that the resident (<300 mm) rainbow trout captured in Boulton Creek in June 2009 were likely age-1 to age-5 fish. Most of the fish were captured in deep pools and runs associated with undercut banks and large woody debris. More fish were captured in the section below the pedestrian bridge than above the bridge. It was noted that many trees had been cut down along the banks, thus reducing the potential for high quality fish habitat to be created by sweepers, log jams and large woody debris. It is not known when these trees were removed, but there is correspondence in the LSR file (1982)
  14. Hi jigsaw, Not the same fish, Same spot, Many Diff fish were captured, below is a portion of the electrofish/survey we conducted in June of 2009....Ill add some other pics from that day.... Cheers...Jeff.. June 16, 2009 SUBJECT Boulton Creek Electrofishing and Rainbow Trout Spawning – 12 June 2009 Successful reproduction of rainbow trout in Boulton Creek was confirmed in October 1984 by the capture of age-1 to age-3 rainbow trout in the lower portion of the creek, downstream of the road. On 12 June 2009, we sampled 370 m of the lower portion of Boulton Creek, starting just downstream of the vegetated shoreline of Lower Kananaskis Lake (Start: 11U 632744E 5610739N) and electrofishing upstream (End 633065E 5610761N). The purpose of the survey was to gather information on the timing and use of the stream by spawning rainbow trout. Water temperature was 5°C at 2.50 pm. Individuals participating in the survey included: Jim Stelfox and Jenny Earle of Fish and Wildlife; Brian Meagher and Lesley Peterson of Trout Unlimited Canada, and two local anglers – Jake Gotta and Jeff Wilson. In total, 66 fish were captured including 65 rainbow trout and 1 bull trout. Most (50) of the rainbow trout were large (>400 mm) fish and many of the females were green (did not express eggs when stripped) with only a few being very ripe (readily expressing eggs). Of the mature rainbow trout which could be sexed, 21 were female and 22 were male. Data for all of the fish captured are provided in the attached sample record sheets and the length and weight summaries of all large (>400 mm) rainbow trout are provided in Table 1. The bull trout captured was a juvenile fish (146 mm).

Gary, Be more than happy to show ya, it's goin to cut into our fishin time lol, ya might have to stay for a couple days .....Wished I still had my old camera, it would zoom right in on those there hills, 3x optical, just don't cutter.... Gary, your new camera will do great up there!! Us Med Hat Folk are so lucky to have the Hills in our back yard, so much to do and see, it amazes me how many locals I talk to, and they have hardly, or never been out that way, Or have ever been anywhere other than Elkwater town site....The back roads on the Sask side are great as well, they have a lot more open roads, that take you to places that will blow your mind, total 4x4 roads mind ya.....Every body is really good out there, in the way of people sticking to the designated trails and roads....The local hills here are my sanctuary, we have a pretty good relationship... Cheers...Jeff..

  22. A while back, Looking at the weather, and seeing that we had a storm a' Brewing for the next day, My Oldest, My buddy & his dog, Beef Jerky and I, hit the Hills for the last nice day of the season....We drove all the back roads in the area, showed my buddy some places he has yet to see, go to a look out point to scope the Sweet Grass Hills, and give the Oldest some drivin lessons, she doe's very well, I got lucky there ....We hit Michelle at the end of the day for the last casts, and hook up's of the season, for this area.....I was just looking through the pics, as I had not uploaded them, till now....Thought I'dd share some pics, as it was an awesome way to put the local season to bed.... Cheers...Jeff..
  23. Wanny, sounds good, Thanx... Ill get some ordered in, Sounds tasty!!!...Here in Med Hat we are limited to what we can get in form of beers, well, and, a lot of other things as well, lol...However we do have this awesome little beer store (Track Side Liquor Store) that caters to us Hop Heads here in town (The owner is a Hop Head too) and has an awesome selection of Micro and world wide Brew's, He will order anything You ask for, as long as he can order it, and he's good at tracking down beer's.....Nice thing to, is he will split up six packs so a person can buy and try one at a time, so then your not to disappointed if ya don't like it, and out 13-15$$ also having 5 beer sittin there that you dont want to drink..... If ya only try Humulus Ludicrous, once in your life, you will never forget it....It has an IBU Of 100, thats off the charts in the world of hoppy beers, little scrapper has an IBU of 50...So you can just imagine how hoppy Humulus Ludicrous is...... IBU’s – International Bitterness Units – are the result of using the hop. There is actually an esoteric table which gives an indication of how bitter a beer will be based on how much of which hops are boiled, and for how long. So IBU’s are the sum total of all the hops added in a given beer, multiplied by a factor depending on length of boil and volume and strength of the wort. Here is another beer I really enjoy, when in Canmore....The score ain't that great, but I sure enjoy it, so do my Buddy's.... http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/grizzly-paw-b...erry-ale/26386/ Cheers...Jeff..
