  1. I seen a Otter on the upper Crow the other day, then I remembered seeing this thread, was a little nervous, standing in the middle of the river as he was taking a good look at me from time to time and making grunting, snorting sounds as he stared me down, then he disappeared... Couple days later I was deep in the Castle area, Saw something rustle in the bush across the water, then I saw it was Brown, heart started to pound, Turned out to be a Huge Bull Moose, he stared me down, then I was like, "Ok, I've fished a few hrs, caught some fish, Im done for this spot, don't need to be beat up by a Moose'' Sure made a lot more noise than I normally would on the hike back to the vehicle... Cheers... Jeff..
  2. I have a 8wt BVK, Really like it., bought it for Bone fishin, To me, It casts like a 8wt. But plays a fish like a 6wt. nice feel for the price... Its my now go to lake rod when its windy or need a long cast.... Also tag it along on rivers and streams for castin Big stuff to the Bullies.... Cheers... Jeff..
  3. Right on dude!!.. Keeper up!! Cheers... Jeff..
  4. Brian, good news, good to hear the Spawning Channel has been repaired that would be great if the Cutts can reproduce naturally in the Upper Lake... However, There are still 2n Bows in the upper, I know, there shouldn't be any left, but I caught a small one this spring on the upper lake and a friend of mine caught a few small Bows as well this spring on the upper, there must be some mature Bows left on the Upper gettin er' done somewhere and will perhaps Crossbreed with the Cutts, Im fine with that, having some Cuttbows on the upper, cool.... I have a pic of the Bow from the upper lake, sorry for the piss poor fish handling skills in the shot but was solo and had to get a pic, I sent the pic to Jenny Earl and she was like, really ?????.... I was like yup, its a Bow from the Upper.... Cheers... Jeff..
  5. That totally sucks man!!... I have been ripped off four times, once here in Med Hat, 2 fly reels and 90% of my Flies along with my good camera, broke into my truck at a Tigers hockey game... Once on my way back from the Mountains, filled up with Gas in Lethbridge, went in to Pay, come back my Pack with ALL my Flies gone... Twice in Mexico in 2 weeks, first time 2 Saltwater Fly reels, cell phone, passport, rain jacket, leaders, shock leaders and some other things, (Car rental company followed us, clean break in with spare key) second break in that trip, All Remaining Flies most of them Clive lent me, along with taking my camera charger, that time they punched the rear hatch lock with a screwdriver, they also tried to rip out the CD player, but only got in half way out.... I feel for ya man, I have had that rip your guts out, sink like a rock feeling a few times, sorry to hear, hope it shows up, ya never know..... Thieves are the scum of the earth, bottom of the barrell... Jeff..
  6. Sweet, thanx for the link, going to order some right now.... Cheers... Jeff..
  7. Hate to say it......, "Im sure there are enough Bull Trout leave the Upper and Lower Lakes and hit the Grill at the campsites every Spring/Summer, not so much by Poaching",...Well, Uhmm?....... However Ignorance to the Species Misidentification, and not reading the regs..... Them there Bulls on the Lower Lake are very special, bin there since Christ was a Child.. Them Bullies have a soft spot in my heart, Bin playin with them for a long while, Spent 20 some days this Spring, along with many other Springs and early Summers, never disappointed, Only one stunted tagged fish this year, #3897, caught her twice in 2 weeks, She was over 20 years Old, COOL..... Takes a long while for them there Bullies to Grow in them Waters..... Another great thing, My buds and I were getting lots of smaller Bulls in the 10 to 20 inch range, great! to see!.... Cheers... Jeff...
  8. Lots of info on the Lakes here http://sunsite.ualberta.ca/Projects/Alberta-Lakes/view/?region=South%20Saskatchewan%20Region&basin=Bow%20River%20Basin&lake=Kananaskis%20Lakes&number=113
  9. I would have to say Leave the Lower and Upper Lakes as they are now.
  10. Awesome! Some healthy fish there for sure! Cheers... Jeff..
  11. As long as Jim Stelfox and Jenny Earl are alive, (Retired or not) that will never happen.... Cheers...Jeff
  12. Six and seven years ago when Summit Lake was doing well, The Bows would jump a good 4 feet as soon as you would set the hook, Craziest Jumpin Bows I ever played with.... In Cuba I hooked a smaller Tarpon right close to the boat, instantly jumped, was pretty much eye level with me as I watched the fly come out its mouth, I can still see that moment in my head clear as day, thats when my guide told me I better start strip setting harder. Its amazing how hard you have to strip set those Bucket Mouths.... Cheers... Jeff..
  13. Them there rods don't look like any Ol' Fly Rod I've ever seen or would cast Anyone ever seen, tried or own one? Cheers... Jeff..
  14. Eeesh, your looking to bust a rod tip or some section, especially if ya hook bottom while nymphing and set. Some good advise above. As mentioned, I just simply lift the rod tip and apply pressure and they are on most the time, keep in mind just how sharp your hook is, doesn't take much to penetrate a trouts mouth, with that being said, check your hook regularly , be surprises how many times your hook point is dull or bent over and needs sharpening... Keep at er' Bud, fish will come to hand.... Cheers... Jeff..
  15. 2 of yas said indicators, haha, I 3rd that notion.... Sometimes Indies are the only thing they seem to hit hahaha. I remember one time casting to some real fussy Grayling, was probably 2hrs into fishing almost everything in my Box, and then a Grayling came up and hit the tip of my fly line, Then I was really lost on what to throw out there, never did get a Grayling that day... Cheers... Jeff..
  16. Hey freestone, Felipe is an awesome guy, so patient and knowledgable. I will definitely go with him again... As I was told prior to the trip "He is the Lefty Kreh of Cuba".... Did you go for Tarpon, bones or both with Felipe?... Next time I want to do Both and go for a few days... Was thinking about doing both on the last trip, but way to hot, and Felipe agreed as well, that it was way to hot to go for the Bones the next day... Later in the day He Said, while in the mangroves "Im Cuban and I can hardly take this heat" I bet with the Humidex in the mangroves it was over 50 degrees celsius.. I was praying for rain when I saw some clouds rolling in from the ocean, but suddenly cleared... Cheers... Jeff..
  17. Lorne, All I have been thinkin about is Tarpon Since that day, Headin to the Hills tomorrow for a few days to Chase some Trout. Im sure when I hook into one Ill be looking for a Tarpon to come Flying out of the water Hahahaha... Lorne, Thanx again for lending me some gear for Cuba, much appreciated!! Cheers... Jeff..
  18. Hi Rob, The Guides name is Felipe, I was told prior to going "he is the Lefty Kreh Of Cuba", and there ain't no doubt about that... Very Patient, caring, super knowledgeable and can tell he loves his fish, surrounding Environment and fellow Cubans... Ill tell ya, when one of my Tarpon that leaped into the mangrove branches, then I pulled him out with rod, then jumped again and got caught in the roots below, Felipe with no hesitance was in there like a dirty shirt untangling line with his bare hands to get the Tarpon free, and he got it!! He said "Fish Landed" With a big grin.... Felipe was really worried about the Tarpons survival, and he said so.. Right there I thought to me self "This guy is more than a guide, he is Fantastic" My Kinda People... Cheers... Jeff..
  19. The more friends a lake river and or stream have, the better off them there waters shall be. A LOT of people are not friendly to our waters and environment. Just my 2 bits. Cheers... Jeff..
  20. Hi All.. Back from Cuba, It was somewhat balmy down there to say the least Only fished one day, was to hot to go wondering around Varadero looking for fish, in which I heard were far few between. Went fishing one day on the South end of the Island... Had a absolutely fantastic Guide. So needless to say I had a Fantastic time. But WOW was it hot in the mangroves. Jumped a few Tarpon and got 3 to hand one being in the 50lb Range, great battle, Jumped 5 times, awesome. Glad I hit the Big boy on the main River rather than in the tight mangroves, doubtful I would have landed a fish of that size in skinny water. The small Tarpon were tough enough to keep out of the tight Mangroves. One smaller Tarpon got me wrapped up in the Mangroves when he Jumped, however with a great skillful guide he got him out out of the roots by hand, impressive.... Here are a few Pics... Cheers.. Jeff..
  21. Good thread. My favorite little stick is a 3wt St.Croix Imperial. Casts like a dream and roll casts like no other rod I own. Have used it in all kinds of situations. Caught some Big Bulls and Bows on it. No problem. Price is right as well. Though it's not my go to rod, I sure enjoy when I rig it up. My 2 bits. Cheers. Jeff..
