  1. Should have added while I was at it, I considered going the wood carving route. The guy I talked to out of California would have done the carving plus a watercolor painting for $1100. The price was a bit much but it would have been done right....Next time.
  2. Thanks for your reply. If you could perhaps point me to a local taxidermist who might be able to reshape the tail, I could probably live with it. Just a shame though, you pay $700+ for a mount and don't get what you want. Kind of got that impression when talked to them on the phone - they were going to take it and do their own thing with it. Don't even mention the delivery, I'm lucky I even received it. They used UPS and I cringed when I heard that. I've had issues with these morons in the past and they didn't disappoint this time. Sure they got the first 4 numbers right but dropped the package at the wrong avenue. The box sat on the porch of these people's house all afternoon, they were honest and called to tell me it was there. All in all one crappy experience.
  3. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Advanced Taxidermy in Ontario. I have a neighbor who has had 4 fish done by them and is quite happy, so I decided to bite the bullet and get one for myself. A few years back, I caught a nice sized cutt on the North Ram that I wanted re-created. Talked to them a couple times on the phone, sent 2 detailed pictures and the size of the fish. What I got back (over a year later) was nothing like I was expecting. The cutt looks absolutely nothing like the one I caught. I can't even hang the picture next to it because it doesn't match. For a company that prides themselves in re-creating trophy fish, matching the dimensions and spot patterns, they totally crapped the bed on mine. This cutthroat also came with a perfectly square tail which no cutthroat that swims anywhere has. And they get damn right defensive when you call them on their errors. Buyer beware, nothing I can do about it, but I'll be steering clear from these guys if I ever want a re-creation done again.
  4. Might have been an off-pair??? I've been using my G3s for over 10 years and no troubles whatsoever.
  5. Noticed a guide I was with a couple of years back use this technique. I usually do what Don does and pinch them while tying.
  6. I once had an employees from one of those Calgary stores (can't remember which one) tell me that he tied every one of those flies himself....hmmm ok.
  7. I remember reading somewhere that the cutts in the Ram River system weren't true Westslopes, but Westslope/Yellowstone hybrids from the hatchery back in the 60s. Any truth to this?
  8. Obviously this social or physical distancing thing hasn't filtered up to the great white north. In the small town I live in, if someone lights a campfire, it attracts people like flies. Yesterday one of them had a fire in his driveway and there had to be about 8 of them standing around it after a time. Just have to shake my head. Can't wait for some open water so I can go sit by myself on my pontoon.
  9. After a move 3 years ago to the "Great White North", I fish a lake 2 1/2 hrs away that contains them. You think bull trout have big mouths? Catch a pig of a tiger and you'd be suprised.
  10. Report said it leaked from a tank...a 4000 cubic meter tank? 4000000L? Sounds pretty unlikely.I could see 4000L which is 4 cubic meters.
  11. I think it would be safe to say if I still lived in Central AB, I'd have my new (to me) pontoon. That is a good deal.
  12. Just cancelled my order for the Colorado, looking at the Fish Cat Panther 9' from the Fishin Hole. How about accessories - noticed the unit does not come with rod holders or anchor system. Can you get these from the Fishin Hole as well?
  13. It's been a long time since I've posted in here (years actually), but I'm in the market for an inflatable pontoon boat. Ordered one off Amazon, a Colorado XTS that's backordered. I'm not sure if they can even bring this model in anymore. Who's using what out there, and what do you recommend? I'm looking for something 9 feet long and I already have a 30lb thrust electric and battery box. Thanks - Mike
  14. Check this out...10 bucks and my left nut says these bastards kept this fish. https://youtu.be/rpvM56Av1Vk
  15. HVAC units in my opinion fall into 3 main companies...Lennox, Carrier and Trane. Last year I was in need of a whole system (furnace and central air) and had quotes from the Lennox dealer in my town and a consultation with Sears who sells Carrier. If you're talking just central air, Lennox came in at around $4100 and the Carrier unit through Sears was out of this world at $5000. I got a huge shock when I went to Home Depot who sells Trane systems. The central air unit came in at just over $3000 installed. So I got my high efficiency furnace and central air for $9400. By the way, my house is about 1/2 the size of yours. I don't know how I lived before without central air...you're going to love it.
  16. No, almost identical to a blueberry in flavor and texture.
  17. Don't get me started on UPS. Didn't have a problem with them until they lost a $420 ski jacket I was returning because it fell apart. So much for the insurance I bought...almost $60 for shipping and insurance and they ended up not paying me a dime.
  18. Ahhh Honeyberries. They kick the crap out of Saskatoons any day. I built a patch in my yard 3 seasons ago with 5 different types and we end up with more fruit than we can eat ourselves. They aren't called the "Blueberry of the North" for nothing. PS: My neighbor makes a kick ass honeyberry wine that you can drink like Kool Aid.
  19. Know where there's a ton of wild ones.....pm me.
  20. Good product, I've been using his capes for a couple of years now and am very happy with them. Right close to home also.
  21. I did the exact same thing this morning. I was disgusted by that pic and the story and joined the Fish Bonker Forum to let them know exactly how I felt. I also wanted to see just how long it would take for me to get banned. Not long after I posted I started getting hate replies and soon after that received a lifetime ban. No sweat off my balls, I can't stand that forum.
  22. I just bought a pair of regular G3 Guides back in June. I was a bit afraid of dropping almost $500 on waders considering I fish in places where the bush is pretty heavy. Well, needless to say they stood up to the test and passed with flying colors. If you're a bit careful bushwacking , crossing fences, crawling over rocks/logs etc., these are great waders. Very comfortable and worth every dollar spent. Go to the Simms main page and read the reviews on each.
  23. Read Bob Scammell's book The Phenological Fly. Wild roses mean golden stones, most of the wild roses are finished blooming for the year.Being the Freeman in the Swan Hills, I'd guess you probably missed it by 1-2 weeks. It also depends on elevation, the goldens hatch late July through early August in the high country. It's pretty much hit and miss when you chase stoneflies.
  24. Just a bit of a correction to this point...1000ppm does not mean instant death. You will lose consciousness immediately, in fact this will happen at 700ppm. Your body will shut down and you'll have to be rescued and revived within 4 to 6 minutes. Just a little info, the word was that the concentration of H2S in the pipeline was 1%...1% = 10,000ppm.
