  1. Bully shots Clive, how big were the rainbows under the bridge?
  2. 9 foot 4 weight Orvis Western Spring Creek. I normally throw a DT 4 wt line but I have stepped up to a WF 5 wt and it casts that just fine too.
  3. Browns are kinda funny that way. On one of my favourite pools on Stauffer I got to know the three biggest fish that lived there. I caught them a few times this season, two of them fought fairly hard subsurface but the third one always jumped 2 or 3 feet out of the water sometimes 4 times in a row.
  4. I pull the tube out of a Bic pen and cut off a piece about 2" long that doesn't have any ink in it.
  5. Just forget about it...Birchy already said he was sorry for not showing up. If you paid him that's one thing but if you didn't let it go. Maybe the guy died or something like that.
  6. Is it something like those spring fed ponds at the Palmer Ranch?
  7. Where did you pick up the pouches of beads Clive?
  8. This might not be that environmentally friendly, but I've found that carb cleaner really does a number on those little buggers.
  9. I get enough days off and vacation days from work so I really can't complain.
  10. That guy must be really hard up for cash. Those things remind me of the old Canadian Tire elcheapos. In my early years of fly fishing, the $10 pricetag was pretty appealing. I might as well have wet waded. My dad also blew the crotch and half the leg out on his pair on the walk to the river.
  11. Mine are extremely ripe after about 7 years. After every trip I turn them inside out and hang them up. A little Febreeze helps also.
  12. My wife and I were fishing the Red Deer last night at the mouth of the Little Red. A group of people were just leaving as we arrived so we talked to them and asked how they made out. They said not too well but we decided to try out luck anyway. We started fishing and were standing about 40 feet from each other when some guy with a rod and big tackel box came out of the bush. Without a word to us he plunks his tackel box down and starts to cast right inbetween us. If that wasn't enough, he once cast over my line and almost tangled me and with every cast he brought in he proceeded to splash his spoon down on the water to get rid of the weeds on his hook. Because I was with my lady I decided to hold my tongue, so we just left to try another spot. I just don't know what goes on in some people's heads out there.
  13. I wonder how a spey set-up would work on the Red Deer below the dam? Any thoughts?
  14. After reading Cdock's post I had to go yesterday night. I started my wife fly fishing this year (actually she had never fished before in her life) but knowing how difficult this water is to fly fish, I threw a spinning rod in the truck for her. We started a couple of hundred yards downstream of the powerhouse and while showing her how to cast a pike slashed at the spoon right as i pulled it out of the water. I handed my wife the rod and she made a few casts and the pike did the same thing to her. She was pretty startled so she moved over and let me cast my 7wt with a big black egg sucking leech. About 3 casts and the little guy took and I landed a 16" pike. Nothing after that so we moved to the other side of the dam. At the boat launch my wife landed another small pike. Not too many risers but a ton of bugs -caddis, PMDs, hoppers and a pile of mosquitos. I forgot how much fun it is to catch pike on a fly rod.
  15. Probably the best one was also my first concert...Motley Crue Dr.Feelgood tour 1990. A close second was Pearl Jam when they did the Canadian tour a couple of years ago.
  16. Cdock; the section right below the dam is hard to fish. I've tried and tried but had zero luck for the risers. They seem to delight in rising just beyond your farthest cast. There's really no sense in casting for them unless you see a fish rise a few times in the same spot. They're cruisers so blind casting is usually futile. I'm suprised to hear you caught a rainbow. In Barry Mitchell's book he says they were planted below the dam back in the mid 80's but didn't think they survived. How big was it?
  17. Thanks SD
  18. You can find the browns rising almost every evening but catching them is a different story....good luck.
  19. I wasn't complaining about anything. Some of us only get 1 trip out there a year and mine was coming in Aug.
  20. Yeah that fricken bites. I had plans for the middle of August. All we can do now is hope for rain.
  21. So nobody is allowed in there?
  22. Don't forget Helix, April Wine, Rush and by God make sure you "ROCK THE MITCHELL!!!!"
  23. What is a skid bitch? I've never heard of them before.
