  1. Now I'm confused. I purchased a 42" plasma early this year from Best Buy. The salesman told me the HDMI is the way to go. They were sold out so he sent us to Future Shop and I almost *hit myself when I saw the price. I bought my satellite reciever from The Brick and the salesman there told me that the HDMI cables were a rip off and to just buy a set of monster cables. I went with the monsters and the HD was a good quality. I experienced screen burn-in on my tv and when the repair man brought it back after fixing it he asked me where my HD cables were. I told him I had monster cables and he said I wasn't getting the high end HD with them. WHO DO I BELIEVE???
  2. Nice Oilers touque Birchy, glad to see you're one of us.
  3. Bully shots Clive, how big were the rainbows under the bridge?
  4. They probably occupy almost every water body in the province. I've even heard of a few of them coming from Stauffer Creek. A friend of mine who scuba dives was telling me one time that a friend of his was diving in a lake up north and he saw one between 4-5 feet long.
  5. 9 foot 4 weight Orvis Western Spring Creek. I normally throw a DT 4 wt line but I have stepped up to a WF 5 wt and it casts that just fine too.
  6. Browns are kinda funny that way. On one of my favourite pools on Stauffer I got to know the three biggest fish that lived there. I caught them a few times this season, two of them fought fairly hard subsurface but the third one always jumped 2 or 3 feet out of the water sometimes 4 times in a row.
  7. I pull the tube out of a Bic pen and cut off a piece about 2" long that doesn't have any ink in it.
  8. Just forget about it...Birchy already said he was sorry for not showing up. If you paid him that's one thing but if you didn't let it go. Maybe the guy died or something like that.
  9. Is it something like those spring fed ponds at the Palmer Ranch?
  10. I use almost the same set up as Brownstone. I start with the 4ft piece of heavy material from the butt section of a store bought leader, a couple of feet of 0X to 1X, a couple of feet of 3X and then a couple of feet of 4X. I almost always use 4X unless the water's real low and clear and the fish are fussy. Then you may have to lengthen your leader to 12 ft and use 5X or 6X. Don't be afraid of these thinner tippet diameters. If you play the fish properly, they can withstand alot of pressure. A couple of years ago I landed an 18" cuttbow on the Oldman on a #20 fly with 6X tippet and just recently I successfully hauled a brown out of a willow tangle on the North Raven on a 5X.

    River Etiquette

Lonefisher, you just gave me a hell of an idea. My wife who enjoys fishing with me was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised in Puerto Rico. She is both fluent in Spanish and English and is in no way embarrased about anything she says or does in public. I have taught her well about angling etiqutte, so next time I have an encounter with an inconsiderate fisherman, I'll turn her loose on him/her. The only problem is that I probably won't be able to keep myself from falling over laughing.
  12. Where did you pick up the pouches of beads Clive?
  13. This might not be that environmentally friendly, but I've found that carb cleaner really does a number on those little buggers.
  14. I get enough days off and vacation days from work so I really can't complain.
  15. Could the dark brownish back be sunburn? I've read about this in magazines before.
  16. That guy must be really hard up for cash. Those things remind me of the old Canadian Tire elcheapos. In my early years of fly fishing, the $10 pricetag was pretty appealing. I might as well have wet waded. My dad also blew the crotch and half the leg out on his pair on the walk to the river.
  17. Mine are extremely ripe after about 7 years. After every trip I turn them inside out and hang them up. A little Febreeze helps also.
  18. My wife and I were fishing the Red Deer last night at the mouth of the Little Red. A group of people were just leaving as we arrived so we talked to them and asked how they made out. They said not too well but we decided to try out luck anyway. We started fishing and were standing about 40 feet from each other when some guy with a rod and big tackel box came out of the bush. Without a word to us he plunks his tackel box down and starts to cast right inbetween us. If that wasn't enough, he once cast over my line and almost tangled me and with every cast he brought in he proceeded to splash his spoon down on the water to get rid of the weeds on his hook. Because I was with my lady I decided to hold my tongue, so we just left to try another spot. I just don't know what goes on in some people's heads out there.
  19. I wonder how a spey set-up would work on the Red Deer below the dam? Any thoughts?
  20. After reading Cdock's post I had to go yesterday night. I started my wife fly fishing this year (actually she had never fished before in her life) but knowing how difficult this water is to fly fish, I threw a spinning rod in the truck for her. We started a couple of hundred yards downstream of the powerhouse and while showing her how to cast a pike slashed at the spoon right as i pulled it out of the water. I handed my wife the rod and she made a few casts and the pike did the same thing to her. She was pretty startled so she moved over and let me cast my 7wt with a big black egg sucking leech. About 3 casts and the little guy took and I landed a 16" pike. Nothing after that so we moved to the other side of the dam. At the boat launch my wife landed another small pike. Not too many risers but a ton of bugs -caddis, PMDs, hoppers and a pile of mosquitos. I forgot how much fun it is to catch pike on a fly rod.
  21. Start buying or tying your nymphs with tungsten beads instead of brass. A very dense heavy metal, it will sink your fly in no time.
  22. Probably the best one was also my first concert...Motley Crue Dr.Feelgood tour 1990. A close second was Pearl Jam when they did the Canadian tour a couple of years ago.
