  1. For Lonefisher: I thought I would transfer your quote over to this thread as opposed to poluting Lynns thread any further. The following site wouldn't happen to be your site would it? http://www.eatbabies.com/recipes/babiesalaflambe.htm http://www.eatbabies.com
  2. A few days after Christmas, a mother was working in the kitchen and listening to her son playing with his new electric trains in the living room. She heard the train stop and her son said, "All of you sons of bitches who want off, get the hell off now because this is the last stop. All of you sons of bitches who are getting on, get your asses on the train now, because we're leaving". The mother went into the living room and told her son, "We don't use that kind of language in this house. Now go to your room for two hours. When you come down, you may play with your trains as long as you use proper language." Two hours later, the mother was still working in the kitchen when her son comes out of his room and resumes playing with his trains. The train stopped and the mother heard, "All passengers who are disembarking the train, please remember to take all of your belongings. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your trip was a pleasant one. For those just boarding, we ask you to stow your hand luggage under the seat and we hope you enjoy your trip. For those of you who are pissed off about the two hour delay, please see the bitch in the kitchen..."
  3. MTB - have you not run into the fisherman that tells you a story one week, only to have him tell you a different story the next week while forgetting he told you the story the week before? I thought this was what fishing was all about, lies and deception. No?
  4. I'm at -4 messages this morning, deleted everything and still at -4.
  5. Hey, where did all the Darth Vader pics go?
  6. Or you could google "elk river bc shuttles" and come up with this: http://www.davebrownoutfitters.com/fly_shop.html
  7. Steelhead, hit the river with the newspaper of the day, a digital camera and a tape measure. Lay all the 24"+ fish on the newpaper with the tape measure, make sure the date on the paper can be seen, then take some shots. Do this for several days then bring back the proof and post it on the board. That'll show em for not knowing Rubes like you and I catch all the big fish!
  8. Well F&W phoned me this morning. It turns out they had a call about the bear the day before I came across it. F&W said someone shot it most likely because the bear had been in the area feeding in the ditches for the week or so prior to being shot. There was no witness's nor any type of evidence they could go on therefore the bear was left where it was found so that animals could feed on it. The lady I talked to said the bear was in it's natural habitat when shot and was not posing any type of safety issue to anyone. Sad isn't it........
  9. I considered what you're saying Jeffro and it makes the most sense. I suspect this may have happened within a few hours of my travel by the area and whatever caused the trampling of the grass was gone, most likely scarred off by the morning traffic. I would think though that a few wolves or coyotes would tear apart a small bear in no time, maybe not? I did check the road for any indication of a hit and found nothing. There were a few ravens feeding on it when I approached. Hopefully F&W gets back to me. Here's a real sickening article to read if your bored: http://www.american.edu/TED/bear.htm
  10. Already happened, waiting for a reply.
  11. Here are the pics: This area had no signs of a vehicle being driven in there. The brown/black tracks you see is hair from the bear and gouges as though the bear had been dragged. The road is what you see on the very far right of the picture near the trees. For a vehicle to throw a bear this distance it would have had to been doing quite the clip, hit it and then thrown it off at an angle. Like I said before something just doesn't seem right with the whole picture. I've seen many many dead animals in different settings but there is something about this one that is strange.
  12. Anyone here have any experience in regards to what and how parts are taken from a bear when it is poached? I ran across a dead bear about 50ft from the edge of a forestry road today. Something seemed strange to me so I stopped, had a look and took some pics. (I'll post them tommorow) The bear had no obvious signs of gunshots but I found it strange that it was so far from the edge of the road coupled with the fact there was an area adjacent to where it laid that had hair scattered around as though the bear had been dragged around. The butt end of the bear had a large area that was opened up whether it was by man or animals I don't know. I am curious to know if the gall bladder may have been cut out of it and if the rear is where it would be taken from.
  13. You young guys just don't get it do you. Now let me explain. If you learn how to cast like that you will get the chicks, simple. Therefore it is a neccessity.
  14. I hear you Taco, I've been royally screwed in the past, not by just by my insurance company but by the industry in whole. But I won't go there cause I would probably have to seek heart medication first. Frickin insurance company intercompany agreements, insurance bureau lawyers, bad cops, F350's, car jockeys that can't drive, lying Ford dealers.....
  15. Ok, replied.
  16. I see you beat me to it Sirocco.
  17. Marketing is what is leading us to believe that the more mp’s the better the quality. This is not entirely true. A point and shoot camera even at 12-15mp will not even come close to having the picture quality of a 35mm camera. It really comes down to the size and type of the sensors in the camera, not just mp. A full frame sensor is about the same size as 35mm film. Most consumer slr’s use a sensor that is 25 -100% of a full frame sensor. Point and shoot cameras use very small sensors compared to a full frame digital slr; usually about 3-7% the size. This means that the pixel size of a point and shoot camera is actually quite a bit smaller than a full frame digital slr even though their mp rating is equivalent. This is why a point and shoot will have substantially lower print quality compared to a slr with a larger sensor. Next is the quality of the pixel value but that’s an entirely new subject. Digital cameras also have to convert from the analog world into digital. This process varies greatly in cameras and in turn produces differing results. All of this, plus much more, equates to the quality of picture. You would be surprised how many 6mp slr pictures there are in print today.
  18. How does one know the optimum amount of line to have out prior to shooting line? I know this depends on the line type and manufacturer but is there a general rule of thumb?

  20. Anyone ever try night vision goggles? They are getting cheaper than compared to a few years ago. A guy would have no excuse to complain about crowds if using these and at $269 they're a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of some fly gear: http://www.thenightvisionstore.com/night-v...iallowprice.cfm
  21. I take it you've been simmering for awhile Clive. Is the that the whistle on the kettle I hear?
  22. Check this article out. I wonder who the "sources" are, how the priorities are set, and who's telling the truth. If there’s any truth to it, I personally find it disgraceful. Cutting a 1.9 million dollar budget from a group that protects nationally significant habitats for wildlife and birds? Give me a break; we probably spend more money on toilet paper for the MP's in a year. From: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...anada-cuts.html Serious budget problems at Environment Canada are threatening wildlife programs and services within the federal department, freezing allotted money for some and reducing funds to nothing for others, CBC News has learned. Of most concern to conservationists among a handful of cuts is that the Canadian Wildlife Service has had its service budget frozen for the rest of the fiscal year, meaning all its scientific field and survey work has been halted. The national wildlife agency is directly responsible for studying and protecting wildlife in Canada and puts out the Hinterland Who's Who public service ads. "Wildlife doesn't have a voice, and sometimes the results of cuts today aren't realized for many years," said Sandy Baumgartner, executive director of programs and communications for the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Sources say the budget cuts are as follows: • The Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Network, which observes changes in ecosystems, has lost 80 per cent of its budget. • The Migratory Bird Program, which monitors the health of bird populations, has seen its budget cut by 50 per cent. • The budget for the National Wildlife Areas, a program that protects nationally significant habitats for wildlife and birds, has been slashed from $1.9 million to zero. Bob Bailey, a hunter and conservationist, was shocked to hear the federal government's support for Canada's 144 National Wildlife Areas has been reduced to nothing. "I simply can't believe. Have we become this urbanized, have we become this uncaring that these places could be in jeopardy?" said Bailey, who is with the Delta Waterfowl Foundation. Sources told CBC that funds to those programs were slashed after Environment Canada overspent its budget. Environment Minister John Baird wasn't available for comment. His department sent an e-mail stating that no programs have been cut and that spending is being prioritized for climate change initiatives. "The government has been clear that its priorities are being a climate change champion, and taking real action to provide clean air and clean water for Canadians," the e-mail said. "We think Canadians are supportive of those priorities."
  23. Never done the trip. According to my topo maps it's about a 40km trip on the river. Here's the outlet from Kamloops lake on google. http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=50%2e7575,%...02,0.02&t=k
  24. As far as landing and releasing I try to skip the landing part. I seldomly touch fish, I really see no reason for it unless the fish is way out of control. Being primarily a lake fisherman, 90%+ of the fish I catch are released simply by removing the hook with my fingers while the fish is still in the water. I have become quite competent at doing this with fish up to the 18" mark, any larger I usually use a net because it's kind of hard to do by yourself in a boat. This backfired last weekend though when a fish took off while I was taking the hook out and the second hook in line pierced my left pinky finger. There was my pinky finger playing rod and reel. The fish eventually broke off leaving me wondering why there was no pain involved. Luckily I have a long calous running down my pinky and that's where it pierced. So I guess there is one advantage to using a net but if I take pleasure in piercing fish I guess I have to take a few piercings myself every now and then. When it comes to pictures I don't think it is a real important aspect of my fishing. I know what I have caught, where, when, with who, sometimes on what, etc. I fly fish to clear my head, to get away from it all. It's not a competition as I believe it is with some folks. (No one on this board though, no, no, no no no... ) I have memories of some fish and places that pictures wouldn't even begin to explain. It is nice to have a few pics though, especially of those special fish.
  25. I took a mountaineering course in 1979 and stayed at Aster lake for 3 days. I remember it being full of fish. I had a small spinning rod and remember pulling one after another out of there. I don't remember what they were though. By the looks of your picture the lake level seems way down. The surrounding glaciers must be disappearing. Interesting picture, brings back a lot of old memories. I'll see if I can find a picture of the lake from when I was there to post. It would be an interesting comparison. Btw, is Mount Joffre in any of the pics?
