Lone, when I was a youngin it was the rule everywhere, parks, back lanes, school yards, wherever. I was present for many ticket handouts. Our rule used to be the first one stupid enough to admit to the cops that a beer that had been thrown on the ground when the cops showed up was theirs took the IP and had to pay for it themselves. They would usually only issue one ticket for a group of kids. I remember sitting in an alley once when this happened and nobody would admit that any of the beers were theirs. Guess what? No IP's were given out. The cop actually told us they would have had to take prints off the bottles to prove which bottle belonged to what individual and that doing so would take up too many resources. Whether or not this is still the case I don't know.

My Parents and Grandparents stopped at a rest stop years ago between Calgary and Edmonton to have lunch. They opened a bottle of wine to have with lunch. The cops happened to stop by and see them sipping away then proceeded to give my Father a ticket for open liquor (IP). The combined age of them was probably 300 years at the time. What the hell would the cops have been worried about? Did they expect them to tear off and start hijacking cars on highway 2?

I looked into the temperature aspect and it seems that whitefish tolerate about the same temperatures as rainbows so I doubt the recent heat would have anything to do with it.

When you say "saw several dead whitefish along the banks" were the fish in locations that the river would have taken them or were they higher or farther away from the water ?

When the people are packed in there like Sardines, what happens when multiple people hook up? Wouldn't it become a little ridiculous or is it fishing with big gear and a haul them to shore mentality?

Firstriddle, the problem with most of the floats in the area you are talking is that they are not floated on a regular basis and some are not floated at all, ever. It would be tough to give you a go ahead on any of the trunk road rivers due to the fact that the conditions on these rivers can change quickly. What may have been a safe stretch of river to float on one day may be hazardous the next. I don't expect your going to get a thumbs up on any of the rivers from the guys on the forum. If you decide to tackle one, I would suggest getting as much good advice from the locals as possible. Play it safe.

The only river in that area I would even think of floating is the North Sask although it wouldn't be my first pick for fishing. Big NO to any others all the way up north to Grande Prarie.
