Thanks you had me a little worried there. I'm interested to know a little more about lake fishing with a spey rod. What would be the pros/cons?
-
Isn't "the feeling you don't have the control you need" a big part of fly fishing? If I was in complete control of every fish I caught I don't think it would be too much fun. Could you expand on this a bit please SilverDoctor as I'm visioning spey rod fishing in the same light as using a mooching rod to haul in an 8" brookie. Thanks

Russ the Oasis products are nice but have you ever considered making one. If you use pine it can be really cheap. I made this bench in a couple of hours. There is no fancy router work just a few pieces of pine for the sides and a piece of oak plywood for the base. Cost was about $40.

I have been using computers since 1987 for both work and enjoyment. In all this time I have been seldom used anything besides Microsoft software. (I guess due to fear of the unknown.) Well today I finally moved to Firefox as a browser due to extensive problems with my laptop IE6. All I can say is Firefox is one kick ass browser. The extensions to the program are simple to use and install, and the working environment is excellent. Crap I even have a spell check doing its thing as I type this. For all those who have never used it I suggest you give it a try.

Hey Clive how do you like the new and improved Sony. Get any of the lenses with it? With 12MP and 5fps, you sure you can handle that kind of technology?
-
Yes, wearing worn out runners with no socks too! (Although that's not saying much considering most kids walk around half naked nowadays with their butt cracks showing.)
-
This was a neccessity: Believe it or not consumer video games have been around for almost forty years, so you young guys, don't let the old farts con you. And NO we didn't walk seven miles through blinding snow storms to get to school, only two, with no mittens.

Some economists are predicting $1.25-$1.30 in 6 months. All I can say is watch out. I wouldn't be surprised if it hit $1.10 by the end of next week.

Cool pics Kyle, I don't know if I've ever seen a pic of a Bull from through the ice. Nice!

Direction Fish Swim After Hook Up In A Lake.
Weedy1 replied to Weedy1's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Let me clarify this. The stockers (12-14") do what they do, they take off in any direction. I'm talking the larger fish (16" +). Do you think the larger fish learn to swim in the direction where there is least resistance? I have talked to several people up here that have noticed the same. -
Direction Fish Swim After Hook Up In A Lake.
Weedy1 posted a topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I have noticed something strange for the last few years while lake fishing for Rainbows in the Pothole lakes around Edmonton. In the first half of the season, I find the fish will run outwards and during the last half of the season tend to come towards me. (Not all of them but it is noticebly different from spring to fall.) It does not seem to be a pattern dependent situation. Is there a reason for this that anyone knows? Do you experience the same in the southern lakes? -
"QUOTE(steelhead @ Sep 27 2007, 11:02 PM) You bet I researced with dries, nymphs, feeding habits, hatches and all the other piddle and crap(been there, done that!), but I now only throw streamers. Sick of catching lots of little fish." I would have to assume he has been attaching streamers to his pickeral rigs.
-
I'm still wondering how Steelhead did with the pickeral rig this summer:
-
What advantage do they have over the Rowley type? Construction? Ease of use? Price (I don't think so.)
-
Hey Brent, These what you taking about? If so how do they adjust up and down the line?

Here are the indicators I get from the States. They come in 3/4" to 1 1/2" and are about 1/4 the cost of what I pay in Edmonton for the same kind only in a different package. The 3/4" ones do the job quite nicely on a mountain stream. The ordering process went well for me. If you want a package Fisher26 I'll mail you one if you want. http://www.flydesk.com/Merchant2/merchant....egory_Code=Misc

Taco, give the old guy a break eh. He still hasn't got past using these, you know it's hard to keep up once you get to Clive's age.

Let us look at this rationally. We will start by dropping the plural form of millions, billions and trillions to keep the calculations simple. A million times a billion times a trillion is the number of baitfish you say is in the Bow (rounded down by me cause I'm writing this and I have that option): 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that’s one octillion baitfish in the Bow) Now lets say a baitfish weighs on average 5 grams. That would mean there is 5 octillion grams or 5 septillion kilograms or 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 grams of baitfish in the Bow. The entire Bow River is about 587 km or 587 000 meters long. For calculation purposes, I'll say it is 100 meters wide and 1-meter deep on average. This means the entire water volume of the Bow would be: 587 000 meters * 100 meters * 1 meters = 58,700,000 cubic meters of water. One cubic meter of pure water weighs 1000 kg. We all know the Bow is a poo hole, so lets add a few kg. 58,700,000 cubic meters * One cubic meter of Bow Poo Water at 1200 kg/ cubic meter of poo water= 70,440,000,000 kg of Bow Poo Water in the entire length of the river. So to summarize, according to the calculations there is: 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kilograms of baitfish in the Bow and 70,440,000,000 kilograms of Bow Poo Water in the entire length of the river Steelhead, I think you may be out a baitfish or two. I am being forced to reassess the hypothesis of intelligent life on Earth.

A couple from: www.engrish.com. I have my doubts with a lot of these I have seen on the net though, being they're fairly simple to make up.

Anyone Familier With Orvis Wader Sizing?
Weedy1 replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Birchy, Wholesale in Edmonton carries Orvis and are selling off what they have left, including waders. Apparently, they are no longer going to be selling Orvis. You may want to check the Calgary store. -
Yes, I have one sitting on my lap as we speak. Picked it up for a little more than 10 grand. Pocket change for this chump. Didn't let the wife know yet, may not. Wait I think I'm dreaming...........Oh, just woke up. Are these guys F'in insane? 5000lbs for a reel? http://www.hardyfishing.com/index.php?if=view&pid=424 Funny thing is I was just googling "the worlds most expensive fly reel" and didn't see anything up in the 10 grand mark. I think you found it for me Pacres. Anyone know what the most expensive reel ever sold went for?

The river flow rate at Frank is presently on a low when comparing to the historical quartarlies, although it was at the high end earlier in the year. http://www3.gov.ab.ca/env/water/ws/data/hy...s/_RCROWFRA.gif

Winter Fishing And Hard Water Fishing
Weedy1 replied to cdock's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
And you went out on thin ice again? You're wacko man, cold water freaks me out, never mind ice. I don't go on it till it's 30", but then it's always in a warm vehicle. http://www.snobearindustries.com/ This is what a guy needs for ice fishin. I saw this on Bob’s show this weekend. Pretty cool vehicle, raises and lowers on top of a hole you drill from inside the unit. Ice fishin for wimps.
