  1. my appologies on the last post but srd (Paul mentioned above) and his co workers have bin out with us
  2. the boat launches should all be in tact so far soo good parking lots are demolished like some have posted but hopefully something will get organized to make some sort f effort to clear and somewhat rebuild them as for fish rescue it has bin going on already! yesterday fish where saved at glenmore and some places today a group of us from fishtales Flyshop fellow guide Paul cristianson and others contact fishtales or trout unlimited te more the better!!! hopefully we can get more people on board I just kind out via Facebook and such... mass location hunting today while a small group does there best to fish out locations one by one... some gold courses and industrial places have already drained water and chucked the fish wherever......
  3. I think it's there jaw pressure! I feel your pain don I've had days where I didn't miss a fish almost and other days once they open there mouth the hook come out! don't fish them a ton but when I get the chance I have really good or really bad days landing them it seems!
  4. I'm not tryin to say this isn't a good this but in some cases it's not much more we can do than try to be extra cautious. a huge thing that bother me is the summer fishing and lack of oxygen and improper release to! every year there's fish kills from that spotting fish pinned agains structure trying to regain strength after a long fish... once again same problem. to much handling not much time reviving. Brian peace stressed it lots I've bin trying to show It more in some photos.. no different than the fish on rocks and dry hands. more time in water and proper handling will help these fish in all situations. I love pics but I've stepped it down for a few reasons. and really I love staring at the fish while they revive far more than looking at my grip and grin on Facebook PC or iPhone... winter is not different this all boils down to fish handling... fish all torn up on every streams... same thing better care when removing the hook especially with smaller fish tht arnt important (for all the money girls and fame or whatever) need to be handled with respect Barry mitchel brought it up in his book and with a seperate article once. we cant control the variables like dam flows, weather, snow pact , rain or whatever else but we can educate and do our best to handle ever fish with care big or small it all adds up and causes fisheries to rebound or decline
  5. y got it rich the best art is people are noticing this type of stuff now and like Brent mentioned and others we can do our part and cycle through some runs more try not Toni er stress fish with excessive handling and try to enjoy the sport but preserve it at the same time. it's a funny thing we want to catch them and touch them but its actually bad for them haha!
  6. I'm with the low water the last couple falls/winters combined with over fishing in some spots. that is definetly where I see most of the populations forsure. I think we see more browns versus how's only because of the time of year rainbows are spawning now weak fish are washed downstream before most of the river clears and I creased users get a chance to see any of the fish. fish handling does a lot same with spawning fish beatin each other up. same difference really and a cause of the "peak" times we are this. last fall was low water early fairly good weather and more anglers fishing it's great to finally see more anglers caring and bringing this up also! since I was really young and fishing the bow (elementary) I tremember seeing the odd fish like this and definetly finding some big dead browns late fall. did I fish as much then as I do now. no. but it had always bin around. the best way to keep this outbreak or whatever more manageable would be for one having more water. seems we run the water through ASAP then keep just enough to make it manageable and safe for river users. IMHO. we've had more people dying in the last decade than the one previous and I think that has something to do with it. good luck getting any fact from trans alta or whoever. maybe I'm just crazy!! the other way is definetly better fish handling. laying off photos yea but also netting fish, mid treating smaller ones, over fishing the same spots where fish stack up pre spawn, winter, runoff etc. I cycle lots and wander lots so do other people and its a hard thing for people to do. especially for those new to the sport who have someone like myself, another guide, fishing buddy or friend recommend the se spots. one other thing is I think some of this is over blown. if 100 people report the same 2 fish at "policemans flats" it does not make it 200 fish. last year I did see more fish than normal in the fall but maybe double tops! I did see the same couple fish or group of fish however in the same spot slowly dying every time I floated by. same thing right now some people are sayin they are seeing more than usual rainbows with sapro and still some browns and even the odd white.. talked to a few people they all said 6-10 tops (4 different guides) and another guide claimed over 40! who is also apart of our "group" fisheries was out from what I heard last week but fusing resources and whatnot are not totally there. the best way to treat this is keep nagging the right people forsure but caring for our fish! and teaching as many people I care to
  7. what everyone else said! some of the logging roads are a little off but typicall just the really old logging roads those books have bin my bibles since I started driving!
  8. I find some times of the day when activity rises fish get stirring and moving around if it settles down usually fishing picks up. depending on the splashy rises and such if its always whites I usually leave them along and figure they are getting bullied by trout or pike. if it seems sporadic and somewhat constant usually I will try small streamers or boatman first! then move to other bugs that could be emerging and rising fast like mayflies or caddis.. swinging them can be good if your nymphing try swinging them after your drifts! I've had quite a few days when I got 80-90% of my takes on one of my point flies on the rise up off bottom if that's the case I somewhat streamer strip the flies back to me in short but fast pulses...
  9. not sure if 3m is backing out.. all the powerlux and nano tech stuff is 3m.. maybe just focusing on top contracts with loop and a few others?
  10. Pete nailed it! give me a shout if your looking to get out dude once your sorted!
  11. they are really easy to add on. Fishtales sells fighting but ya all you need is a busted rod piece that will fit in the bottom end. most reel seats u can hear up and remove the lower reelseat cap if not a hacksaw does just fine!! put a bunch on friends and other people's rods the last couple winters
  12. get the studded river soles if you have korkers bin my go to sole for 4/5 years or so since they first came out really durable super sticky 12 months of the year in any terrain
  13. I got em on everything that can help turn fish pard by being able to push forward against with the reeling hand, like others mentioned having them braced against your forarm can he great for long runs
  14. was wondering I we can pick them up yet! will halfto head down to the Flyshop and get a couple!
  15. I would recommend the airflo 40+ amazing single handed Spey line IMHO bin using it in most of my rods for years!! if u need to turn over tips and big flies I usually overline it then chop 6-8' off of the front.. almost becomes a single handed skagit line and will turn over anything. have this style of set up on my bulltrout and like combos and can turn over large flies and tips with the "Spey" style and overhead casts great also. the rio out bound short is another line I've bin playing with lately and have found similar results
  16. nicely done monger!
  17. awesome flies everyone!! ggp that thing is awesome! would definetly fish that!! time for me to get back on the guide bugs a stockpiling the standard nymphs...
  18. that is sad to hear
  19. I don't think it had changed.. some people float it now and have discovered there are some nice trout up there... that could be the reason you heard what you heard?? always worth a fish if its your only option!
  20. think if the increase in how many people using bars messing around trying to unhook fish taking way longer forget the facial damage I'm talking about people over handling fish struggling with them in nets on shore or with tighter grips because its more awkward to remove the hook because they are not use to the process I would even be "rusty" little dryflies getting ripper out is one thing and yes people will be "breaking necks" on them little not picture worth trout not to mention taking longer time removing out go to SJW/stonedly or bullyrout streamer with the photo worthy fish... just insane not even you Brian can deny that you have seen people struggle and mishandle fish with a crimped barb... is it about conservation or a extra $20 tip? even if my clients grumble about it next year I'm stickig with what's user friendly tote fish and most time effective when in the net
  21. this is messed up I just don't get it fisheries must have bin sick of writing tickets and gettin nothing done? I'm sticking with barbless no sence in switching back for the sale of a few more landed fish seems really odd I hope this is a joke... brutal!
  22. I think it's pretty hard to deny that closing the river would help increase populations this toe of attitude don't fix it until its f**ked is the really why lots of populations can collapse I think anyone in the right mind can't argue that the fishing wouldn't get better if this type of closure was to happen. it would definitely increase the odds of egg survival resulting in more fry so more browns and fatter rainbows... how is that a bad thing. fishing pressure over the last 10 years is way higher than what it was so its safe to assume that the odds of damaged eggs and pestered browns are on the up and up and from my experience the brown trout fishing in some ways seems to be dropping stable if I where optimistic so why not try to make it better? there's tons of water to fish 22x-carseland in October and in November and December how many possible fishing days are there actually weather and slush depending maybe a few maybe a few dozen all depends on how our winter shapes up. I think this is a great idea. yes I would sacrifice my favourite fall rainbow runs and halfto drive a walk a little but rather than stumble to my "classic" "childhood" spots that I enjoy fishing while the guide season winds down but that's totally fine. I've already lost the city section and hammering fish below the weirs and I don't really miss it because I know it was for the better of the fishery I don't think any science was done then just observation the fishing key spawning areas and places where pre spawn era stack (weir, fish ladder) are places that need to be protected...
  23. I would be into it for sure I love to fish the rainbows hard inner city in October November but get frustrated talking and arguing with people wading the wrong water I know most people don't fish the brown but do u knowingly walk through reddy that get covered once the fish move off em and can't ID them once they start toget growth on them again
  24. I heard of one fish caught downtown and I would be more willing to bet it either got dumped from a tank in china town or fry are escaping from the hippo tank at the zoo.. I doubt they have anything to do with the fungus but super crazy to see that one was in the bow...
