This was at Millers Lake, West of Edson. I'm not aware if there are shrimp or not.

I was definitely hanging around the same area but I was not paying as much attention to what was happening in the water. I'll blame my head cold.

Appreciate the responses! I was stubbornly sticking with different presentations of the boatmen as I was getting JUST ENOUGH action with it (although I changed things up with a booby pattern briefly to no avail). Thanks for the minnow/streamer suggestion. I'm heading to a river tomorrow night but going back out to this lake again on Mon or Wed. If it works I'll give you all the credit.

I've spent the last couple of evenings after work out chasing Tigers with some success. However, yesterday evening there was another fellow that caught my eye. He was hanging around the shallower part (~4-6ft deep, vegatation on the bottom, near a weed bed) of the lake I was on and he was out fishing me probably 4 to 1 in the later part of the evening (after 6:45pm as the sun goes down). It looked like he was using a floating line or sink tip and was doing longer strips (6-8") at moderate speed. Whatever it was he was absolutely dialed into what they were going for. I should have just asked the guy at the time (side question - is that appropriate?) but I can't stop wondering what he was using. Doing some googling this morning I'm thinking it might have been damselfly nymphs but am curious what the wiser minds on here might say as I'm always up for learning. Reid

Very cool to see that little ribbon of water and green space! Good reminder to never stop exploring.

Yah it is pretty wild this year, seeing some higher flows right now in my area but between a low snow pack and a hot May there doesn't appear to be much left. Reid

Anyone on here have Vision brand reels in their arsenal? Going to pickup a new 5wt reel and spare spool for use on still water and larger streams and the Vision XLV 5/6 is on my short list along with the Lamson Guru. However, finding it difficult to locate any magazine reviews on the reel as it seems to be a European brand. Open to other recommendations as well, appreciate any responses. Cheers and enjoy your Easter weekends!

Appreciate all the tips! Hoping for ice off in early May and I'll report back on my efforts. Reid

This is good stuff....keep it coming, appreciate the insight! I'll keep watching more videos, only a couple more specific questions. Flies - Are you typically using single flies or two? How far apart? If two do you use the same pattern or try multiple? Swivel Placement - Where is this typically located in relation to your indicator and fly? Assuming maybe 12" below the indicator to stay out of way of the flies?

I've been in the Edson region for work for the last year or so and have been enjoying the ability to head out after work for a few hours to fish a few times each shift. I grew up in the area and I'm fairly well versed on stream fishing and productive spots. However, in the fall I started trying my luck at Miller's Lake (I don't think I'm hot spotting here, it is a fairly well known as a stocked, aerated lake) and was having a blast catching fish on backswimmers, streamers, etc. I did not grow up fly fishing lakes so this was all fairly new to me with mixed results but I'd like to continue the efforts this spring. Chironomid fishing would be another new venture for me as I've never done it. I've been watching a few videos online and it seems like everyone has their own flavor on how to do it. At the risk of confusing myself more I guess I'm reaching out for some help and basic pointers on how to best approach this type of fishing for the spring season. If someone really wanted to be a hero and hop on a phone call with me for 5-10 mins to walk me through some recommendations, shoot me a DM. - Floating line vs Sinking line? - Strike indicators? - Is there a certain brand or style that works best? Is this dependent on season and how you are fishing? - Depths? - Start at the bottom and work your way up? Start a meter deep and work your way down? Millers Lake isn't very deep and fish have been typically in less than 10ft of water in spring/fall. - Leader/Tippet arrangements? Open to any and all suggestions! I'll be experimenting as I go and will put in the work but if you folks can give me a rolling start it would be appreciated.

Those 1-piece rods are nice to cast with, but a bitch on the walk out!

Ummm....I'm not sure those are proper fish handling techniques. jk

Fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing your trip!

Sunglasses! What are you using?

I had a pair of polarized Smith's that went missing. I've been using some cheaper polarized glasses from MEC but I think I'll spring for another set of Smith's soon enough. -
Grassy Mtn Coal project Crowsnest

FYI, Things are starting to move a bit on this project..... http://www.rivresources.com/site/Projects/grassy-mountain-project2/overview3 -
Nice fish(es), caught in flip flops too!

Depends how open to travel (the driving kind) you are but I'd recommend spending a day on both the North Ram and the Crowsnest. Both of them are well known rivers, but have easy access, productive/large fish and, if you have the luxury of going during the work week, some potential solitude in the foothills. Enjoy your visit to Canada and ensure you read the fishing regulations as many streams here are now full catch and release.

Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

Great underwater shots, nice fish too!

Has anyone here actually gone for Golden Dorado? Would be curious to know costs and how much action you get in regards to fish quantities (not Argentinian women,....although....). Might be a nice alternative to steelhead one day.

Brutal......no wonder no one posts pics. If it isn't a picture of google earth with directions to the exact location people should relax. Folks either know about the spot or they don't regardless of photos posted on this site.

How about just "Juan".

Wild Rose Release Plan For Ab Fisheries
Komp replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Agreed that predator control is a slippery slope but I don't think our endangered provincial fish would get branded as such. What they wrote looks good on paper. We need to get creative to develop more fisheries to match the population growth.
