Yup, there are still browns in there last time I checked. That creek would represent the Eastern boundary for trout fishing as I know it. I haven't fished it in years, might have to give it a whirl again this summer due to how close it is.

The middle reaches of the Pembina around Lodgepole would seem to be a good fit for Browns, and the water temps around there might start getting a bit warm for grayling/rainbow while that section might be too small for Walleye. It's a productive river that can grow decent fish, but I know there is concern about the grayling population. I'll give them a ring and see if this has any potential or not.

Are there any streams in North Central Alberta that would be able to support self sustaining (or not) populations of brown trout? I am defining North Central Alberta as East of Evansburg and north of Red Deer (ie.~100-150km radius from Edmonton). I know its not as easy as dump fish in said river, high five each other on the way back to the F&W truck and open the stream for business but has it really been looked at recently? The Pembina River (west of Drayton) seems like it would take to Brown trout as a medium sized river. The Tawatinaw River is smaller and littered with beaver dams but there is good/bad with that scenario as well. Is there really no option that would work for this part of the province or is the demand not there? Feel free to brainstorm.... Reid

If the hoppers get going the Boulder Gardens can be fun. Head upstream from there. Might need to find a friendly farmer or ignore a trespassing sign to get there though. Lots of lovely water on the Crowsnest so let Google Earth be your guide.

Let's be honest, I am probably going to get skunked anyways so this whole discussion is useless. The primary target will be Cutts and the gear will be Cutt appropriate. If I happen to catch a Bull it will be handled with care. Fish Ethics Police can consider this case closed, nothing to see here.

Thanks for the tips! I'll be using a 4wt so it could get interesting if I hook a bigger one. If I find myself in that conundrum it will be a good problem to have. I'll have to sit with my kids and watch some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to bone up on the Mickey impersonations.

Heading to a system known for Bulls hitting flies on the surface. Do you just throw the same stuff out there you would for Cutts/Rockies that are in there? Or are there particular flies that attracts them? I don't do a lot of fishing for Bulls. I know they like their streamers but I'm more interested in seeing if I can check the elusive Bull on Dry box on my Fly Fishing check list. Appreciate the feedback. Reid

Maybe not the right section for this but we are buying my father-in-law a full day Bow River float for his 60th birthday. He's fly fished before but will definitely have some rod rust. Imagine most the guides are excellent, just looking for someone to give him a fun and memorable experience. Appreciate the feedback.

I think it would be difficult to find a lake that would would stay warm enough to sustain a healthy population. Also, I don't think Alberta F&W is really gung-ho on bringing in non-native fish and displacing an existing fish population. Having said that on one of those Alberta fishing guides it mentioned smallmouth bass in Skeleton Lake [?] sort of around Boyle. Have no idea if any, now or in previous years, actually exist there though. PS - Tie Lake is a neat place. I spent one summer out there when I was like 15 years old.

Spring is coming and with spring comes fishing....but before trout season starts there is Pike season. I am graduating from college in April and my gf suggested that she buy me a new fly fishing setup for my grad present. I've never tried fly fishing for Pike, so I am somewhat clueless. I'd be looking at purchasing a decent pike setup in the $250-300 range if it is possible. I do have access to an aluminum boat to get around a lake, but does one need a belly boat as well to fish, or would waders work well enough to fish weedbeds, etc? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated....Cheers
