  1. Now, I think that's a hell of a an idea. No wife to pick me up and lost 2 fishin partners to the economy. 4 boats and 4 guys and fit in 2 fullsize trucks. I'll be looking for the thread. Cheers, chronie
  2. Get the book by Rowley " Fly Patterns for Stillwaters". Teaches entomology, fishin technique and whole to tie many lake patterns. Some "chan" videos can be found via torrenting. Gear wise, you'll need a floater and a fast full sink line. Learn to fish floatin' patterns off the bottom. Couple of the boys @ wholesale do alot of lakes. Cheers and have fun.
  3. Might wanna try a monster stone nymph. Saw a few the other day. No one can resist a big meal.
  4. Maybe, I don't know crap. But, talking to several boys at both Russells & Wholesale, UFA is way off. Wholesale supposedly owns Russells. Wholesale's building resembles way too much Cabela's. Wholesale has been unloading "Cabela's" boxes since they moved to the new location. They also unloaded Water Skeeter last fall and you'll note that Cabela's did too. Coincidence, I think not. So long as they match the US pricing, I'll still look there. Cheers
  5. The proximity to the Bow is of concern. Once the "lakes" are opened, they are never maintained. Most become "sloughy" and cannot support the trout that are originally stocked ( look at the one's west on hwy 8 ). Those who reside there think their great when they buy, but, when it comes to maintaining them as a community, most will not pay for upkeep. Once this happens; the wise people who reside there plant garbage fish. Pike/Perch can live in minimal waters and their kids can get out the worms. After this, the wise residents begin to plant the garbage fish in productive waters ( the Bow ) in hopes that they will grow big and still be easy to catch. NOT !!! The only thing that happens, is that they displace the trout. This is happening all over BC and a perfect example is Gardom Lake, outside Salmon Arm. Who is doing this? The local population/sportsman. NOT !!! Simply put, some well heeled Albertan's ( I live here but I'm far from rich ) who only care for themselves. I for one will be writing to the government employee and I thank you (bigbadbrown) for bringing this to light. If there is a date for a public hearing, please post it. I'd encourage all the members to voice their negative opinion to the government. Cheers
  6. Sorry to hear man. Once had my gear ripped off (more important than the truck) and claimed it under my home insurance. While I try not to leave stuff in the open, if they want in, they'll get in. Alarms are a waste of money, when your 1/2 a mile away. To all members, go out and buy a "CLUB". It's the best visual deterrent around. Back to claiming. " Sundancefisher" is right. Flies alone are a buck and a half and my (2) chronie boxes have probably got over 300 between the two of them. When claiming, have the investigator meet you at home. If your anything like me, you've got a cupboard full of tying gear, old spinning, etc. Any pictures you have of yourself and your gear will help. My den has fishing photos everywhere. Believe me; when you tell a claims guy what was in your vest alone, he's going to be dumbfounded. The guy who did my claim looked like the only outdoors he'd seen, was in the Saturday travel section of the Herald. These people have no idea. Be firm. They'll try and reduce your claim, like a Hudderite buying tractor parts. I hope some of this helps or at least brings smile to your face. Cheers
  7. Hey Tako, If you have the time, could you inquire with folks up that way and see if " Beaver " is ice free. Or, it could be an idea to fill your empty day. Beaver in the spring can be very productive. If you let me know, that'd be great.
  8. I purchased a low priced copy of the " Regal " vise shown here: http://www.russellsports.com/files/ff-signature_4.pdf. last year from a great shop outside of Vernon (probably a chinese knock off, but a guy's gotta save a buck here and there). The vise has great hook holding pressure. It will rotate, but, it is not as convenient as a true rotary. If you want to call them, their info is below. My Dad and I have dealt with them for years and their "GOOD" guys. Kenkraft, Lavington, BC. 250-545-5101 Let me know if this helps and if they still have these available. Cheers, chronie63
  9. Don, I really like this tie for a CHROMIE. What did you use as the body material ?
  10. I do alot of interior lake fishing. When your looking to tie some, many patterns call for peacock herl thorax before the bead. I've found this unnessary and simply create a patch of black thread to represent the same. I'll try to post some photos. I'm stocking my chronie box for the May 12 trip to Salmon Arm area. Cheers, chronie
  11. Just spoke with fishtales. It seemd they may be stocking this stuff, regularly. They did not have the weight I am after, but, I'll probably check back next week. Still got other feelers out. Kamloops Fly Shop is checking on price/availability for me, as well. Will keep you up to date. Cheers, chronie
  12. Rant continues...., Taken from above " I wouldn't be interested in finding coordinates to other peoples fishing holes simply because I would want to explore and find out places that I will enjoy. " Hang on, I need to check my GPS. Nope, there's no fish there. Big part of this sport is experimentation and exploration. Not " coordinates ". Sorry coordinate guy, but, you need to pound some bush. chronie63
  13. Gents, The only way you will prevent the predation of fish to any body of water is to say " no, you can't fish here". Once in my younger days; a friend and I hiked to JOB lake, just to see the place. Never dipped a rod/fly, but, did enjoy the 4 day round trip ( must remember that was 20 years ago ). The lake was perfect, the rises were plentiful and I was 50 lbs lighter. Today, it's all about CONVIENCE. If a gomer can drive to it, he's gonna exploit it. Anybody can view this site, buy the annual " Alberta Fishing Guide " or drive their god damn ATV where ever they want. I know I'm still a rookie here, but, some information is too available to those that have no respect. I've only been to Bullshead twice. Enjoyed a couple of multi fish days. But, lakes are my zone and I'll be damned if I tell some gomer how to catch my fish. Make the lake no gas, no bait (already done, but, not heavily enforced), fly only and Alberta resident only. This action will undoubtely cause our license fee to increase, but, we'll know that the government is NOT paying a person to patrol the area and that general tax revenues have increased. Question ?? Have you seen the advertisements on the web that now pinpoint Bullshead as a trophy destination ? There's a few folks that are already making some cash, courtesy of our taxes. That's my rant for now. You'll either hate/like me for my bluntness. I still kmow a few places, where GOMERS don't go. Cheers, chronie63
  14. Super idea gentleman. Many a pump in early spring or late fall render Daphnia only, when I fish the interior with my father. I've tried to use size 24 salmon egg with green mohair, but, this will have to be created for my early May trip. The bug is proliferant here too and this may be the ticket (thinking of ice out at Beaver). Again, great idea. Will try to post a photo of my creation. Cheers, chronie63
  15. Well if the repllies are not favorable, maybe a group purchase is in order. Not too sure how this could be co-ordinated, but, it might be an idea. I've got a friend in the east checking, but, it's been a few weeks and I think he has fallen into a pail of Smirknoff.
