I have noticed a difference in suppleness even on cold fall and spring mornings with My delta. I do Prefer Rio Lines between the two. Fishing in the winter with Rio windcutters is a joy.

I've noticed no difference at all between the two (I own both in several weights). I do prefer the multi tips as it gives me more instant options. I've even cut on of my Windcutters one piece onto a 3 piece with loop to loop connections. Wanted to do some fine tuning to the grain weight and add the opportunity of custom tips.

Thanks for the votes guys!

Just saw your post. I use the old double edged blades for trimming deer hair and a number of other tasks. Just used up the last of mine and bought a couple of packs at Wal-Mart in the NE. They where under $2. Hope this helps. You can snap them in half then tape the back with masking tape. Saves the fingies. Be sure to dispose of them by taping the fronts before garbaging. Or

Here is my Microwave Whitefish 1 lb whitefish fillets, deboned 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1/2 cup shredded zucchini 1/4 cup finely chopped celery 2 Tbsp. lemon juice 1 small red pepper, sliced Place whitefish fillets in a large microwave baking dish. Combine onions, zucchini and celery and spread over whitefish fillets. Drizzle with lemon juice. Add red pepper and cover with wax paper. Pflueger Trion Vs. President
SilverDoctor replied to birchy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I'm a fan of the President myself. Used it on my Steelhead trip last fall and the drag was impressive. I just picked up a second one last weekend. -
Nice job on the Intruders

I was taught to tie flies when I was about 6 by my dad and an old Scottish doctor, Jock McIntyre. Both brilliant dressers who taught me to tie, throw a decent loop of silk fly line, respect nature and drink scotch properly. Fly - Silver Doctor

Looks like a super option for pike flies.

Just curious, any time the wife leaves em in the tub they leave a rust pattern. Looks like an excellent Idea though. Must give it a try. I tie on shanks for some of my trout and steelhead patterns.

Since I bought my Nor-vice I use it in the same way for dubbing. Works great.

Just a question, don't bobby pins rust?

Must follow, can't turn eyes away. Thanks for this chartable moment.

Nice combo there, congratulations on a great combo.

You even got a shot of the old Silver Docter tying up a storm.

Had fun at the Expo this year. Tied with the Hook and Hackle Club on Saturday then gave a few folks their first tying lessons at the show, then did the flyangler booth all day Sunday. Spelled off Ed at the Liquid Lace booth and got some great tying demos in. Thanks all for stopping in and saying hi. Twas fun. Picked up a couple of books, some tying materials and couldn't resist a great deal on a Rio Windcutter (320 grain) and a few Snowbee sink tips not to mention a few goodies from Gordon at the Spey booth. Lots of good deals.

Fly Fishing Exposition Poll
SilverDoctor replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I'll be tying Saturday with the hook and hackle club. Be there on Sunday tying at the FFC booth. Drop in and say hi and talk trout a bit. I'll be wearing my Rio hat and shirt. Keep well. -
That's like saying how long is a piece of string. You have to think about usage. Large arbors are great for line capacity. But they are not the only answer. What rods do you intend to match it up with?

What Have You Sacrificed To The Fishing Gods
SilverDoctor replied to Teck71's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
A great many flies to the tree gods, stone gods. Good Samaritan's flies give away. Also Forceps line straightener with zinger and a large wolley bugger carefully jammed into the head of a dog that wanted a piece of me. -
Good one Don. We need more stand up old gals like her.

I've been using Ridge Line by Airflo. It's a great running line for shooting heads. Very slick and doesn't tangle easily.I like the feel of it, it's nice and slick.

Hi Gordon, I would humbly like to take the advanced class on the Sunday. It sounds great. Your first class was fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Have the best of days Max. And a record fishing year.

Well that's a great question. I often see folks who expect fish to hook themselves and sometimes they do. But not that often. Remember a trout has no hands. Taste is the key to knowing and finding food. Bugs I'm sure have thier own taste and texture. Bait fish have the exterior coating that triggers the trout into saying (this is definitely food). You only have a split second on the swing to set the hook before the fish realizes it's not food. If you try to set the hook by lifting your rod tip here's what happens. the rod tip lifts (this takes a couple of seconds), the line tightens out slack in the rod itself (another couple of seconds), the line itself tightens out it's slack (another couple of seconds). The transmitted line tightens up through the leader to the fly another second or two is gone. The key to any fishing whether it be dry fly nymphing or stream fishing. is keeping a SOLID TIGHT LINE, even on the swing. When swinging wet flies or streamers I use my left hand to hold the line and "feel" the fly swim through the water. At the slightest tap I pull straight back a quick 6 inches. At the same time a split second later (if it fees like a fish) followed by a rod sweep towards shore. Sounds simple but it does take practice. Fish are FAST. I think most people most likely have large numbers of trout that touch their flies while fishing but never know it. I often impart action on my flies using my line hand in different retrieve styles. We'll get together some weekend and I'll show you.

I wax very lightly and use electrical tape When I fish Skagit style for winter and spring, short belly lines and shorter lighter rods. I have a theory, mostly unsupported except for a bit of personal experience and conversations with others owho fish the big rods. that rod size/line weight and possibly belly length have quite a bit of bearing on this issue in regard to torque. Torque is where the danger lies. For example, on a Deer Creek 5/6 with 5/6 Windcutter ( admittedly a very light spey setup) I fished all summer with only wax on the ferrules and had no twisting or loosening. There just isn't that much torque there. In comparison, using a Loop 9140 with a Delta Long 9/10 and super fast sink leader and mostly Snake Rolling to keep the leader up, the ferrules will definitely start to twist when only waxed and taping as well is necessary. Using a sustained load cast like the Skagit Double and the Perry Poke. These casts and lines do not seem to create the torque and stresses that the long belly snake-rolls do, therefore, I am certain that a tape job is not as necessary. However, I still tape - as I get apprehensive when I do not and worry about the ferrules rather than fishing. Gordon showed us a great way to spiral tape the rod during the Spey casting clinic last year that I adopted as it is quick and easy. The way I look at it after buying a rod for 300 ++, a roll of tape for $1 is cheap insurance.
