  1. Those yellow boots are probably the best bet for security? My sister's husband had their sleds on a trailer in the driveway, with a chain around the axle running under garage door, and chained to his motocross inside. 3am they were shook outta bed by what sounded like a car crashing into their house.....you guessed it,it was his bike being ripped thru the garage door and drug down the street, sparks flying.BnL jumped in his truck and gave chase in his underwear, and they must've had bolt cutters,as he found his mangled bike only a few blocks away.********* got away with the sleds, although one was recovered by cops a year or so later?
  2. Distance chart at 22X launch. I find the float times posted here to be a bit optimistic....maybe with higher water, and not stopping to fish or eat along the way? ie;in last cpl weeks,I've done Glenmore-22x on pontoon,6hrs with a cpl brief stops. Glenmore-22x on guided drift...11hrs with several stops and lunch. Police-Mac....11hrs with fishn stops and 1hr rain delay. Soooooo ...to answer hour Q,I've yet to float Mac-Carseland,but according to chart,it's 8-10hrs(?)......so probly take me 18-24hrs minimum,lol.....I like to stop ALOT!
  3. I've found shorter rods to be more of a disadvantage than advantage in most scenarios, including chasing brookies on tiny, brush choked streams. The only real slight advantage IMHO is when bushwacking and weaving thru thick bush. For actual fishing applications,a longer rod is better IMO for reaching,mending,dapping/high sticking, casting distance, roll casting, and on and on.... Plenty of small (tiny)stream scenarios I find myself with not much more than the leader and a rod's length of flyline beyond the tip, rarely casting at all other then maybe a roll cast.I've just found in my experiences that an 8'6-9' rod is more enjoyable to fish in just about every situation imaginable vs. a 7 footer on tiny creeks, highsticking and reaching to pockets etc,or reaching out from the bank to execute a sidearm cast up/down stream...then when you shift to a bit larger flow, say the Liv,upper OM etc....it's superior for mending, roll casting etc.....and then on even bigger, mid size streams and lakes,ie;lower OM,Highwood size rivers,it's better again....better distance, mending at distance, pick up more line with less effort/less stripping. I honestly can't think of any reason why I would ever buy another rod <8' long at minimum, and prefer 9' all around for most apps.
  4. At 22X/Sikome boat launch parking 3 days ago, noticed broken window glass in truck/trailer parking stalls....I thot...."shitty...somebody's truck got broken into?" At 22x launch tonite, not 1,not 2,but 3 piles of shattered window glass in parking lot!!! So at least 2 fresh new break-ins in 3 days? DO NOT leave valuables in your vehicle in FCP!! F'n pathetic!!
  5. Raising fish as opposed toooooo....rehabilitating naturally sustainable populations?? ....THAT would make too much sense...
  6. I'm guessing 95% of off-roaders aren't ill-intentioned eco-terrorists....they just don't know any better?Theyre not stupid, they just don't know jack about fish, fish habitat, fishing,or givachit about fish......they just don't know, because theyre not into fishing . An education campaign with lotsa back road signage would help a ton.,along with well advertised, steep fines for violations...I'd like to think most people want to play nice?
  7. Haha,I spect someday davety will become the new rickety. That said, even in my earlier years(especially then),river wading balance has been known to be affected in direct relation to number of beers consumed throughout the day.
  8. Me too.....Lorneville,NB.....I don't recall there being a sign tho?
  9. Frenchman's Ck I think it's called ain't it?
  10. Agreed, pretty hard to form an opinion without hard data vs. anecdotal, localised observations. I'm assuming this Sask/Nelson watershed plan includes the Bow,NSR and tribs? My concern with having Bulls listed as threatened stems from my experience with same re: Atlantic Salmon.Back in the early 90's,most,if not all(?) of the Inner Bay of Fundy rivers were "temporarily" closed to salmon angling. They remain closed to this day, including a few examples that have made encouraging recoveries to some degree in recent years, namely a few of the Saint John River tribs,Nashwaak,Hammond, and Kennebecasis.Incidental catches of Atlantics by "trout" anglers were on the rise, although it remained(remains) illegal to target Atlantics on IBOF rivers. There was a lot of enthusiasm for the possibility of re-opening these rivers to C&R angling at least,but........the problem being,in the Maritimes, and in particular in regards to Atlantic Salmon Management,is that outdated native treaties and rights give that user group priority over all others. In other words...native harvest trumps recreational angling which trumps commercial harvest. Now that said,it's not likely that we will ever again see commercial harvest of wild Atlantics in Canada(I'm not complaining),but to re-open these rivers even to C&R,flyfishing only angling, means it's also open to native harvest....now how F'd up is that!!! Anyhow....that's my concern with bulls....if they're listed as threatened, might it become illegal to target them at all,as is the case back east, albeit "trout" anglers on the Nashwaak are swinging Green Machines,Undertakers, and green butt black bears, supposedly for speckled trout, blatantly thru well known historic salmon holding pools.....pretty hard to prove otherwise,as brookies will readily grab those flies also. Lil' different with bulls,it's hard to say your targeting cutts when your stripping a 6" streamer? Then again,as mentioned in a previous post....cutts are listed as threatened and no issue with targeting them for C&R....so maybe no concern at all, just yet another F'd up east coast native issue.
  11. Can anybody say for certain what the implications might be of having bulls listed as "threatened"? Might this not lead to no targeted angling of bulls wutsoever, including C&R? Careful what you wish for.....jest sayn?
  12. Works for me on iPhone? ......not a clue nor guess at the rod though, was just curious?
  13. Haha...typing at the same time as Foamy....so there is char there for one I guess?
  14. Anybody have experience with fishing that stretch of the Columbia R. there between Invermere-Radium?My sister and family recently moved there from CGY to the little hamlet of Wilmer on the west side of river between Invermere-Radium,and it looks like a lovely stretch to float/paddle for a day?Not looking for secret holes, just curious what species I could expect to find there?Love to give it a try next visit, which will likely be for a few days early Aug if that makes any difference?
  15. Shiiiittty deal, the bass turds!! Brazen indeed with you fishing within view! It wasn't that many years ago that my best bud and I when huntn/fishn always left the keys in ignition in case somebody in trouble needed the truck worse than we did....NOT anymore.
  16. Well,in that case,to catch a trout you MUST HAVE a quiver full of Sage and Hardy flyrods from 2-7wt w/matching Hardy reels, preferably limited edition Bougles and or Perfects,Simms G5 waders,400 dozen flies covering every size and color spectrum of nymphs, emergers and duns of caddis, mays, and stones sz8-24,a custom made cedar ghost net, pontoon boat for remote lakes and streams,Clackacraft jet for the Bow,16 spools of tippet material from 0x-7x both mono and flouro,$150 collapsible wading staff, and if you don't have already,a $90K 1 tonne 3500 series deisel pickup w/8" lift and 20" rims, preferably GMC/Chev but Dodge will do in a pinch,to get to where trout live.
  17. Well done article worth a read,thx DJ. http://afgmag.com/consideration-warm-water-angling-restrictions-on-our-trout-streams/
  18. Love swinging streamers in Bow.Generally not as productive as nymphing,(lotsa skunk days, esp. in the colder months late winter/early spring)...but the fish are usually always good'uns, rarely ever catch the lil fellas.Best guess would be less than 5% of streamered fish I've caught in Bow are <14"? Edit:Beauty Brown btw!!
  19. Snouthunter must be related to Bob,yes?? Note to self:In the future when fishin with D @ 4am,ALWAYS tie on a fly at the truck/Do NOT wait until on the river and pointing to where 20" rainbow lives as he most surely will poach 4 casts in while you are stringing up and hook n land said 20" rainbow.
  20. A Hardy with plastic guts!! Say it isn't so!! :0 Actually was gonna buy a Sage Click 3 a cpl years ago for my 3wt Sage....until I seen it in person and the lil' plastic clicker...for $300+....thx anyway.....found a like new Marquis 4 with spare spool for 1/2 that...steel guts n all. No offence intended to Sage Click owners,I'm sure it's a fine lil' reel and tons a fun,but at the end of the day,it's a $100 reel with a $200 label printed on it....my humble opinion only of course.
  21. No particular reason, other than that I cut my flyfishing teeth on the Miramichi 30sum odd years ago,and to me,the sound of a screaming Hardy being tortured by a fresh chrome Atlantic burning into the backing is THE sound of flyfishing. If "the quiet sport" were to have an unmistakable, recognizable sound associated to it,that....the sound of a Hardy, would be it IMHO?Hell,I even had a Hardy ringtone on my cell phone for the longest time, haha. I landed many a big salmon on my first Hardy,an old beat up yard sale St.John that looked like it tumbled down a river bottom for 3 years....so I figger there ain't a trout that swims gonna best me for lack of the latest, greatest, space age material/stop a freight train drag system?I can do the same damn thing with rod pressure and palming if need be. ....and again, pfffft,it's just a lil ol' trout for chrissakes.
  22. Totally biased opinion here,but......I've purged all of my modern disc reels in recent years and gone to ALL click n pawl reels, most of those being Hardys. Drag performance is typically wayyy over thought, over discussed, overated, and over emphasized in a trout reel IMHO...they are only trout for chrissakes......and even with salmon/steelhead reels for that matter.....an exposed rim clicker will land any fish that swims in Canada in a timely fashion, searun or otherwise, and do it with style and a whole lotta fun noise, just like they've been doing for well over a century. .....ducking now
