    Married Wings

    Beautiful!!
  3. Galvan Brookie is a very nice piece of kit....! Held one at Troutfitters, it just kept talking to me....'take me out of here, take me home' I have a Sage Click II on my 2 weight.
  4. Well done! I picked up some of these for my relatives Xmas tree's, or to use for whatever as decorations. Sure hope the young man gets his Norvise, I think he will put it to very good use in the future!
  5. Happy Birthday ggp, and thanks for sharing the great ties and inspiration....

    New Vise

Can't go wrong with a Dyna King or a Regal for home tying. (it's all about the jaws) I like my Renzetti Traveller for when I am on the road. One day, I might find a LAW. I got to ty on Lornce's LAW at the Fly Expo last January and it really is as nice a piece of equipment as folks say .....
  7. Eastern Rises is indeed fantastic, and Trout Bum Diaries Vol 1 Patagonia is pretty good too. Only problem with Eastern Rises, your friend will be frantically trying to raise the 10K so he can actually go!

  9. No, but I first read of it in the Nick Karas book many moons ago, and have always always wanted to go. As far as trips go, it is not as expensive as some might think.......
  10. Aye Sean, point taken (unless you live DT)
  11. To add, as far as schools go, the two major High Scools in that area, Viscount Bennett and Ernest Manning are gone, Viscount closed and Manning closed and moved moved much further west over to Aspen Glen. Your kids, will be bused a long way to High School, either Central Memorial, Western Canada, or to the new Ernest Manning. Looking on a map, these distances (actually ALL map distances in Calgary) may deceive you...it may only look like an inch or two on the map...but you need to come here and drive them yourself. Are you working downtown? Most folks take the LRT.......parking is 400 plus a month DT... and no LRT in Glamorgan, your driving to Westbrook, 10-15 mins....each way in traffic.
  12. I grew up in Lakeview....just south of Glamorgan..I can remember going to Weasel Head when we first moved there in 1965 with a .22 rifle, and a fishing rod....it was pretty wild there back then in that part of the Elbow Valley.....and the keg parties, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles just added to the flavour of the place. Fishing the Elbow River from Weasel Head to the Army Base was never really good, except for spawning pike in the canals in June.... It was/is much better further west, from Twin Bridges downstream, south of Highway 8. Access is much harder now in this area. I would not base a house purchase in Glamorgan based on Elbow River access upriver from the Glenmore Res..... It's a nice area to be sure, but, Glenmore Park (a nearby large park on the north shore of the Reservoir) ) is a very busy overrun place these days. However, Weasel Head and hiking or biking to the south side of the Res is very enjoyable during the week, very busy on weekends... IMHO
  13. Deer Run, Parkland, Acadia, Maple Ridge, Fairview....for S.E. Woodlands, Oakridge, Woodbine, Southwood...for S.W. IMHO
  14. Dream trip? Can't just have one....how bout 3? -New Zealand....I'll need 3 weeks -Patagonia.....4 weeks required -Kamchatka.....actually scratch that one for awhile given current events, I'm thinking God's River, Manitoba instead....
  15. Drift boat and trailer.....hands down. Use it, take care of it, and you will get most of your money out of it when and if you need to. Don't worry about the no experience thing, a few trips with someone who knows, and you will be doing great..... Pick up the book 'Float Fishing Strategies' by Neil Streeks.....read it. Warning, rowing can be addictive, some would rather row and enjoy watching their buddies catch fish....

    Some Hogs

Man, that warmed up my day...! Thanks for posting......awesome shots!!
  17. Update....Thomas traded to Dallas....Luongo won't even see him.....
  18. Roberto is thrilled, he is going home....no more frantic 8 hour one way flights to see his family twice a month during the season. He can round out his career and also be in his happy place. He gets to share the dressing room with Tim Thomas...they can talk about those heady days of 2011! Anyway, it's good for Roberto.......Canucks?.....only time will tell.
  19. Keep your NXT, it's gotten you in the game and will serve you fine for the coming season. It *might* not have the backbone to distance toss a big weighted bug with an indicator on a windy day, but it should be fine for everything else. Save your new rod money, hire a guide for a day, and take some casting lessons. Those two things will accelerate you into the world you want to be in, and will keep you there so you can only move forward. When you hire your guide, be up front with your capabilities, and let him know you want to learn first and catch fish second. He will then know what to do, and your day will be much better. Plus, don't worry, he will be putting you on fish all he can while instructing you. You will learn more in one day with a guide, then you would splashing about on your own for months. And don't forget, tip the guy at the end of your great day. I go 20%...but that is just me. We are lucky, some of the best freshwater float guides in the world are right here in Calgary......Terry at Fish Tales, Dee at Iron Bow, and Copper Johnny on this board are all guys I would spend the day with, without question. I know Terry also teaches casting, Dee I am not sure if he does, but he should, he is one of the best fly casters I have ever seen. And to echo Dhurst above, I know experienced fly fisherman who took casting lessons from Jim McLennan and came away better. Jim is a master, who will help anyone at any level get better!
  20. SD, hope you had a great birthday...now, go do some tying on that LAW.....time well deserved! As Ron says, too durned cold to go fishin'
  21. Now, that was truly great! New Zealand......on the bucket list....but how does one ever leave??
  22. Thanks Lornce for warming my heart and soul on a cold, windy January day.......!
  23. Had a great time, nice to see all the people lined up tying at the FFC booth... Thanks for posting the pics Lornce.....(and for bringing your LAW out...amazing piece of kit)
