  1. If you are truly concerned give them a call and ask, they may surprise you and have a very good reason. Its harvey passage and the end of October would have icing conditions. It actually could be a case of very good management when all the considerations are in front of you. It would really be interesting to know how they got to this decision.
  2. I am not sure what the problem is? They are going to lower the flow rate to 40-50 cubic meters/second from today's rate of 78 for safety for their employees?
  3. I do have pics of him sitting too. He was never hiding from the doe and I think his whole plan was to just get a little bit closer as time war on and she got used to his presence. I think she was alone as I did not see any other deer around her. Maybe this way he only had to deal with one set of eyes? He sure is in beautiful shape, just ripling muscles. We know he was a male by a few shots of the package but that was difficult to see at first but we had the good fortune of watching him for an extended period of time- for a Cat anyway.
  4. Next one, here he is. Friend and land owner was also with us. He estimated Cat at 180 lbs. His grand son was also with us. These pics are monday night. The grand son(13yr old) slept over down on the river by himself in a trailer on the friday night as we were not going out until Saturday morning. He went out to pee at 5 am and then called his grramps(Gamps was wondering why he was phoning so early cause the kid dosn't get up well and told him there was something in the bushes watching him and he thought it was a cougar. We kinda blew it off as young guys imagination because he was alone and scared as first overnighter by himself. I told Gramps there was cougar fresh tracks on the river early Sunday morning..... We did hear lots of I told ya so from the youngster after that.
  5. I am having a bit of difficulty with this. Will need to make different posts? Here is the doe being stalked. She is nervous and he is behind her, notice her ears back.
  6. Where do I start to upload?
  7. That's cool. On the August long weekend my gal and I were fishing and about 7 30 pm when we noticed a deer that looked very nervous. We sat down on a log watching it and the mulie doe was really behaving oddly. Then I found out why, A big tom cougar was stalking it. Watched the action for 45 minutes and my gal got over 100 pictures. Never got to see him kill the doe but i don't think she made morning. Over that short period of time she became more and more complacent and let him get closer as time went on. The Tom knew we were there and never appeared concerned with our presence, a few times he actually sat on his butt wagging his tail while eying up the doe.
  8. I was chased and attacked by a Male blue grouse on two different occasions. He thought a couple of us were trying to charm his hen away from him. Both episodes lasted about 10 minutes.
  9. You are the one who said 25.00 lol. If you get a pal to mule it down is he going to have to insure it? Maybe one of those TFW's could drop it off on there way back home. Take er easy Uber......Just having a bit of fun.
  10. Here is the problem. 7 to 10 US dollars ? Let's go half way and call it 8.50 plus 1.50 for the exchange rate etc. 10.00 You have to get it to the guy going south 3..00 for gas and 3.00 for cost of vehicle ownership. That's being very favourable is it not? 16.00 now. He has to get it to the post office - another 3.00 plus 3.00 out of his way? 22.00 and it still gets shipped back and you need to pick it up? Higher cost in the end and way more hassles It's false economy and what you are really doing is getting someone else to "chip in" for the rod. 25.00 is the real bargain. Not intending to insult you Peter, just being realistic.
  11. Seriously..... Why don't you ask if anybody would like your autograph in your next post? Thanks for the laugh!
  12. Luckily you will have very good coverage if you get into the gap. The forestry station north of the the Gap has cell towers mounted on the mountain peaks in that area for communications to help fight forest fires. Bring binocs and have a look around- you will see them. Due to the fire bans smoke signals that Alberta trout usually uses are a big no-no...
  13. X2 - If you see any of the thousands of Inukshuks or Cairns give them a boot and knock 'em down too. Its all tree huger graffiti. If you put up some type of marker take it down when you leave.
  14. There are more and more Bulls being caught every year in the SW through out the season. I believe the shortage of Bulls is greatly exaggerated. If you look at the other forum more than half of their S.W. pictures being posted are Bullies and that is no coincidence. Many of the knowledgeable locals I know that fish the SW reports much the same. I do wonder what the natural ratio would be with out the touch of people in the SW? What would the weight and numbers of Bullies be compared to other indigenous fish with out people?
  15. I think it is a blessing in disguise. In Alberta one of our biggest problems is actually far too easy access. Would it not be nice to have a washout further south so the number of RV's and ATV's was decreased substantially? I don't think they will be repairing all the washouts on the Sartoris rd. south of hwy 3 and that will be the best thing to happen to that area.
  16. I think you did great. For a first effort it was much better than great actually. Be interesting to see your next one! I liked the music..... I hope in your next video we get a close up of a big one smashing it and you can play AC/DC Thunderstruck to it !
  17. A Ram mount for camera or video camera so you can relive the catch next January.
  18. Don't ever go in without a belt. Pick a spot on shore that is easily found when the light has faded so you have a safe return. Keep facing upstream and don't cross your legs. Don't cross just upstream of logjams etc. Plan for a fall and hope for the best.
  19. Mid October with 4 friends and targeting Cutts - The Elk river with Fernie for accommodations, great October fishing and a town for all to enjoy.
  20. WOW- If it was not for that other forum there would be nobody to talk about for some on here.
  21. If you actually want to help and educate there is a better way. Praise in public, punish in private. That forum is probably 100 times the size of this reaching a much broader audience. Hundreds of people came to the same conclusion as you. Moaning on this forum about people on the other is of no benefit to anyone. Sending the guy a polite pm would do a world of good and he would appreciate that . When telling a story details are very important. The guy holding the bully was the father of the poster who acknowledged his fathers mis step and I would bet he mentioned it to his dad in PRIVATE too. His father is negligent and doing the fish no good for sure but i will be more optimistic and think he just does not know better. Punish in Private. "The sad thing is that over on that board, posts such as these are completely acceptable and allowed, however you are not allowed to stand up for the resource and make a comment when poor fish handling is displayed. As you will see in that thread, one user was actually suspended for commenting on it. This is a new rule on the board!" The reason for this is so people do not completely cease posting pictures. If they stop posting pics the opportunity to educate is lost. The son who posted and many others like him would rather learn through Pms than public chastising by well intended people. Maybe the traffic on this forum would not be so dismal if more was done here to encourage posting from the less experienced flyfishers than inevitably will replace the old socks tramping currently. You do realize most of the people on here are on the other forum and it is growing fast. If you are so aghast at that rule on that board why are you wasting your time over there supporting it? Words of wisdom- Every time you point your finger at someone, there are three fingers pointing at you.
  22. You did not mention a particular river so.... The Elk river has been fishing great for Cutthroat. Your wife would love the trip on a mountain river in fall colors. After the fishing take her out for dinner in Fernie to one of the fine local restaurants. Epic trip to remember for both of you. Best guides on the river would be Vic Bergman and the boys from Crowsnest Angler!
  23. I think there is much more to this story. At least two sides to this story, is this the reason for the silence?
