Par 3 or similar is the way to go for sure. Best thing going if your target is broad leaf weeds like dandelions. Give each weed a very slight spray with a container with a pump to pressurize and in a couple days they are dead. 73 mls/ gallon(very inexpensive to use) is good but if you make it stronger it will kill your grass too or stuff like quack grass... Keep the lawn as healthy as possible and cut low and you will choke out the quack grass over time too. Irrigation systems are very efficient users of water and make for a healthy lawn so if its an option do it. The companies that spray lawns now are not nearly as effective as they once were because of not being able to use 2,4-d in residential areas. Millions of gallons of herbicde with 2,4-d like Par 3 are currently used in agriculture and of course heavily used at the golf courses in your area but is not now sold to home owners so find someone with an acreage or farm to get it. Dont use it if you think its going to rain with in a couple of days. Just use it in a responsible manner and read the directions.

Police really do care The Regina Police Service report finding a man's body in Wascana Creek, near the RCMP grounds. The dead man's name will not be released until his family has been notified. The victim apparently drowned due to excessive marijuana consumption. He was wearing black fishnet stockings, a red garter belt, a pink G-string, a strap-on dildo, purple lipstick, and a 'Trudeau for PM' T-shirt. He also had a cucumber in his rectum. The police removed the Trudeau T-shirt to spare his family any unnecessary embarrassment.

At some point we need to go in the direction of limiting pressure on all native species by limiting angling time on the water along the lines that B.C. has chosen. Not just the Eastern slopes, all water holding fish. Sooner or later it will need to happen. Catch and release is a good start but there is a percentage of fish that do succumb to the pressure regardless of how talented we are in C&R. When you throw in low water levels higher temps, and the less experienced I think(just my opinion)... things get real bad. With the limited resources already we need the penalties for poaching to be much higher. We need our current available fisheries managed decently and one easy move in the right direction is bringing our licensing in line with B.C. too. I bet the funds we miss out on non resident licensing would pay for at least a couple of officers to patrol the water and then penalize the poachers hard that they catch and if we could also have that money go directly into fisheries. Just adding more fishing opportunities without being able to properly manage what we already have just does not fit.

I think we need to get our house in order with our natural fish before we start anything else. Why stretch our resources more especially now that the province has far less money coming in?

Crowsnest is a great community to live in. Maybe rent a place where ever you decide for a short time before buying to get a real feel of the community. In order I would say, 1 Crowsnest Pass 2 Pincher 3 Fernie 4 Lethbridge 5 McLeod

I believe we need to also start regulating the number of anglers on the water if we really are interested in improving the fisheries.

Size of the Pike won't really matter it is the size of the fly you want to cast that will determine what weight rod you want to use. If it was me going I would like an 8 or 9 weight rod for big long flies that you could still cast when the wind came up. If you start to have trouble shorten the leader as much as possible(3 foot leader is good) or trim the fly as much as possible with your seven. Size 12 boots.

I think Rocky Mountain Camping no longer has the contracts for any sites down south. I believe they are all government run once again...

Fishing, Mountain biking and golf- Crowsnest Pass excels at all three. Finding a place to party without disturbing others would be very easy too.

Your blog was very interesting and enjoyable to read. Take a year off and do something else that money can't buy. Move down to the Pass and mow lawns for 25.00 a crack and for every 50.00 you make spend 25.00 on gas or flies, shuttle or something else that is really important. That is living large. May not be for everyone but it could never be considered a mistake. Have a great summer...........!

Interesting for sure Fish head but, I bet the average quadder is never close to being in the shallow water for 30 seconds and the usage is going to go up fairly quickly. We have fly shops selling them now right..... As for cost your Jet boat is very likely to be way below the average cost of a powered boat in this province. Go out to any lake and there are more boats between 50 -100k than below. A cost of a jet boat will not be a deciding factor to buy one or not. Noise factor is an issue as the people who fish the middle Bow would be incredibly lucky if they have not heard a jet on the water. I find it interesting that you can justify your Jet just a little more by pointing out how another recreator is much worse than you to minimize your damage. You and the ATV's are in the same group unless you are using an electric Jet, those things usually burn a pile of coal

Educate me on the Jets because I am really unsure of how they actually effect the River and its inhabitants. If the water was always deep it probably would not make much of a difference but do they not stress the whole river ecosystem when they are blasting the bottom of the river while in shallower areas? I don't like the noise factor while fishing but at the same time I do realize I need to share the river with others and they may differ in how they like to recreate. I am always of the opinion that we need to share everything and try to get along with all users and their views. I hope the people who like their jets don't bitch out loud about the ATV's along the Livingstone because it's no different really. I think the damage is easier to see from the Atvs but the effect the ATV's have on the fish and inhabitants may not be any worse than the jets. In the beginning when there was just the Honda trikes out on the market I bet no one thought they would be such a pain in the ass that they have become. Imagine the Bow river with 20 times the Jets on it in five years as right now, because it is quite likely to happen. All the guided boats will need to get jetted to stay competitive and then the rest of the fly fishers will be in the line up to buy. As a side note.... first guy who passes me on the Crow I am going to clothesline... lol....really.

You need to think out side of the box Galspal. What we do down south is just borrow a good sized track hoe from one of the many idle oil and gas contractors and dig your self a nice long deep run close to home so you don't have to worry about all that up and down the river stuff. Just use camo - make sure you have a bearded operator with a flat brimmed hat and white oakleys smoking one of them vapor things wearing capris.....they wont notice a thing.

I am always surprised they allow the use of maggots upstream of the East Hillcrest bridge. Each year its one of the first things I check and it is still there. Local's still slaying the "Grayling"......

"When the actions of people destroy the place, banning is only the first step that should be taken". Don that is the type of thinking that goes no where and just pits one user group against the other. When we are pointing out other user groups shortcomings and flaws we are only showing them how intolerant, judgmental and selfish we can be. What we really need is better education and enforcement of the laws already in place and leading by example. Most of the fisherman actively try to mentor the more inexperienced fisherman on best practices like how to handle fish to increase likelihood of survival. If the Atv crowd could do more mentoring and self policing it would be a big step in the right direction and with the large number of them out there it would not be that hard to really improve the situation. There are also some very pro active ATV groups who would be quite easy to work with like the Crows nest Pass Quad squad(I am not a member). If they were approached I would think they would be more than happy to work together to improve the situation. Imagine the reaction they would have if you just told them you would like to have their activity banned.....Instant back against the wall enemies. I have always admired their jingle of "building bridges not fences". We need to start thinking like that more. Most ATV users are very responsible and care just as much about the back country as the other user groups. It is not fair to make this group pay for the irresponsible actions of a few bad apples just as I don't think you should be banned from fishing because some fisherman poach. Like I said earlier if you actually want to solve the problem you also need to be part of the solution, which involves making sacrifices yourself. For the record - It would suit me well if I did not see another ATV but that would be very selfish and in the end I think it would probably backfire. My biggest fear is when it is all said and done the only thing we will have will be some manicured forest where human footprints are banned off of an asphalt sidewalk, something similar to Mt. Lorette ponds. It's really not that much of a stretch...

Don I have never done any of the deeds you mention. Put yourself in the other users shoes. If we are always pointing our fingers at the other guy and his destruction of the land to minimize our own it we wont get anywhere because it is not fair.

When I read the word Ban I think about what compromises the ban camp is willing to make. I believe it would be a great benefit to the fish if we left them alone. I don't believe it is fair to ask something of one group if you are not willing to do so yourself. I would think if we really want to benefit the eastern slopes we should all stay out. Ban the quads and ban hunting, ban fishing, ban the cattle and ban hiking, ban logging and oil and gas. Don't just ban what benefits you....If you really and truly want to help, lead by example and stay away from the eastern slopes.

The Crowsnest Angler is an anchor of the flyfishing community on the eastern slopes that is situated on some prime real estate in a beautiful area and it's a very healthy business. I bet some of the people here could make a great go of it and add to the very positive influence the Crowsnest Angler has had on the fly fishing community. I think Vic is a top class guy and I can only hope that the next person with the reins continues with the same integrity. When someone steps up to the plate I will be one of the first to shake the new owners hand, congratulate him and wish him luck and my visa will be in my other ready to support him! Behind every good man stands a great woman and my hats off to that fine Lady Carol Bergman, going to miss seeing that smiling face as I walk through the door! Cheers!

It is a fishing website but you should read the title of the thread and don't respond if you don't believe it should be here. Check the context of my post, I was suggesting that most people are not dense, but you missed that i guess.

I believe there are very few people who are actually dense enough to believe what you have stated. I do believe provincially the NDP are the worst party to lead us when we are faced with the challenges of the present economy. In their defense I will say part of the reason is they have zero experience in political leadership skills and many lack experience in making hard decisions due to their age and lack of life skills. Federally if Mulcair can't handle his own finances I don't want him leading the country either. I won't bother ranting about Justin but I do believe that in the future Harper will be known as one of the greatest leaders Canada has ever known.
