Great pictures, as if I wasn't excited enough to go fishing this summer with the shimmering of warm weather you had to do that. Come on warmer weather, need to try out my new rod.

I started with a Reddington Cross Action 9 ft 6 wt rod and loved it. I do most of my fishing on the bow and a little bit up various rivers around Kananaskis country. Other then #16 and higher dries I have had good luck with everything else, streamers, nymphs, hoppers. Great place to start I feel.

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will learn a pile about fishing and many other things like I have in the past few years. Also have a few laughs along the way.

Went into Wholesale Sports in Deerfoot Meadows in South Calgary and had great service there. Very knowledgeable and helpful, I believe his name was Jeff. Suggested a great book about Fly hatches which is proving to be extremely educational. The customer service is out there, all though I have had some bad experiences as well.

Great show, my first year, I was looking for a Fly Fish Calgary Booth and didn't realize that it was that so sadly missed you guys. Good work to the volunteers and everyone who helped out, made for a great show.

Oh ya I suppose this may help to narrow a few things down, for cost I am thinking around: Rod: $200-300ish Reel: $100-200 Line: $50-100 Max Total: $ 600 if need be I am hoping this will last me quite a few year unless I opt into another weight for specific patterns, ie 4-5 for dries and 7-8 for streamers and such. Thanks.

Hey everyone probably a reasonably common question around these parts as I believe it is a pretty standard starting fly fishing setup. I am currently looking at getting a new 6 wt 4 pc 9 foot rod, medium to fast action, I am flexible on the action a bit. I do most of my fishing on the bow currently and dabble in the rivers/creeks in Kananaskis country. I currently have a Reddington 6 wt 2 piece 9 foot rod which I enjoy but I am looking for a four piece and also to have a second rod so I can take friends out and introduce them to fly fishing. I looked at a few rods today at the Fly Fishing Expo and really liked the weight of the TFO BVK series rod. I also looked at the Amundson Wind-Warrior series and thought it felt good. I am also looking for a reel to go with this and some weight forward line that people have had good experience with. I am sure this is a pretty broad question so please let me know if anyone has any follow up questions or things I need to be consindering. I welcome everyone's opinion, suggestions and personal experience. Thanks, Russell

Haha great response Rick. As for the rest of the debate I am against the Gun registration as it seems the people who end up registering are not the people we as a society need to be concerned about having a gun. All though like they say bad people almost always find ways to do bad things so who knows.

Very cool vid, thanks for posting. I can't believe how clear the water is. Amazing how far the fish is away before you actual lose track of him. Would have to be pretty stealthy to sneak up on a fish like that.

Hey must have been around where I was on the August long weekend, I got 7 fish that looked very similar. It is a great spot, I am very excited to go back again soon. Glad to see you had such a great time and that the pics turned out so great, thanks for posting.
