  1. I can share your biterness buddy, being a flames fan as well. But really? Do you legitimately think it's a conspiracy? Montreal and Ottawa both were good contenders for the post season until recently. One thing I will find odd is Vancouver's place in the standings. That's something we haven't seen in a while.
  2. Caroline is a nice place to live very small and quiet, west country out the back door. Problem for guys like me who work long days is it's very inconvenient to get anything after 5pm. This is why I moved back to Rocky. Definitely Sundre over Caroline.
  3. It is pretty shallow... Why did they stock it then?! God as if putting them in a put and take lake wasn't enough...
  4. I always liked Blackie and the immediate area East of High River as well, but most people are partial and willing to pay for the mountain views. Would be from one extreme to the other going from Jasper to the baldass. As for the sour gas wells, no, you won't notice them. There are hundreds more within 100 km of Jasper than there is near Turner Valley.
  5. We sure aren't going to have many lakes left if this keeps going the way its going.
  6. Don't be surprised if black nugget is completely devoid of tiger trout when it is "evaluated" on its effectiveness. I heard from a friend whose local to that area that they have been taking a beating and many many fish have been taken home to get freezer burnt and thrown out in a year. Absolute waste of time and money. I can't help but wonder what the government's reaction to these findings will be.
  7. Have a couple of friends at Mammoet, they are still fairly busy, might want to look into them. Not sure if they've got any offices in/around Calgary (Pincher Creek for sure which I'd take over Calgary any day). They do similar work to your background.
  8. Yes, not to mention all the other various petrochemical processing that comes from refinery/NG processing byproducts. There really isn't as much "waste" as some say there is, in the processing world at least. Hell even liquified sulfur is extracted from gases and used in various products and processes, such as fertilizer. Who'd have thought?!
  9. Logo looks awesome, just logged in for the first time since the start of hunting season, had to make sure I was still in the right place!
  10. Hey Mr Botangles I saw that sign south of a small SW saskatchewan town last spring, I got on the road but never found the creek!
  11. Well *hit like you said with a name like fishmans it was worth some digging. Alpine it is.
  12. You are right - I misunderstood, it is hard to convey in writing. I apologize. Coming home from catching a trespasser on a coveted piece of hunting property I worked hard to get and blood was apparently still boiling. Am going to give Alpine Shoe a call to discuss once hunting season is over. Have a good evening and again I do apologize!
  13. Thanks for the info guys... UberFly I did read that thread but didn't want to derail it as it was more directed toward vibram soles and what peoples recommendations were; as I don't use vibram soles I didn't know if the process differed or if felt could even be re-done anymore. I don't care for your attitude. RedBeard - to you, thank you sir. I must have missed that one in my search. Jgib, I agree, looking at getting new felts sent up from Simms and holy CRAP especially with our dollar in the shitter - Guy might be better off just buying a new set of boots??
  14. Anyone know of any shops (pref. Red Deer but Calgary will do?) that would do new felt soles on a pair of Simms Freestones?
  15. Did they put a shift kit in the rebuild? Could be an issue in the torque converter as well, the symptoms you're describing sound like a very common issue with transmission replacements/rebuilds/auto-5spd or 5spd-auto swaps.
  16. I've heard the same stories. As barbaric as that may sound in these modern times, I for one would love to see this event live.
  17. My guide said fall was usually the best if you want to tie in to big big fish. Chum should be running in October which will be the same story, lots of roe and meat in the river.
  18. You're in for a great time, pinks are running hard and the sturgeon are ON!!!
  19. The Nordegg backcountry was full of child rapists and murderers, convicted and unconvicted, for many many years... Bingo.
  20. Not flyfishing I guess but just returned from a guided trip for white sturgeon on the Fraser with Fraser River Lodge. Absolutely 110% worth the value price. Lots of big fish and pound for pound your best inshore man vs fish scenario in western Canada. Will go again 10/10. I'm hooked! My best on the trip was 7 and a half feet long and just a hair under 300 lbs.
  21. Agreed. Shut em down completely til May 1 so you don't roll the dice with guys getting on the first few weeks of some lakes openers.
  22. Generally when old laws like this are dusted off and surfaced after being unacted upon in 100 years they almost always inevitably follow an incident? It is unbelievable that someone would even play this card for such a petty thing. I believe they are satisfying their due dilligence just with signage mentioning the aerators and danger thin ice or danger open water. No? Unbelievable regardless. About as stupid as the flavoured tobacco ban...
  23. Good vid, cut my teeth on those creeks and logjams when I was a kid! I too have lost more than my share of fish the same way your bud did, they're in there for a reason right?
  24. DougC,I have to disagree with you about getting permission, especially for birds. I have only moved back to my roots in Central AB in the last two years. Some key things for getting access, as bigfoamy also touched on - find "birdy" spots. There are three key elements that make good pheasant habitat - food, cover, and the biggest mystery, water. Firstly find cover. Secondly find food (canola/legume crops are generally more sought after by upland birds than cereals). Thirdly a water source close by. This can be from something as simple as a slough to a small creek flowing through the bottom of a coulee. Have you tried asking people for permission? The worst they will say is no. If you get yourself in a pocket that is unpressured (there are more than you think) you will not have an issue. The further you get from the city the better off you will be. Obviously you are going to get shut down along the bow or sheep or highwood close to the city, or on some prestigious pieces on the milk river ridge... Fill up yer truck, grab a county map and a coffee and go for a drive... I can point you in the right direction for an area to start looking within an hour of Calgary. 24 to 48 hours is hardly enough time for birds to "acclimatize" to the first area of cover on a release site. As bigfoamy and monger have said, it's hardly even "real" hunting at a release site. Uneducated birds with a ton of pressure. Yes people shoot at them right out of the box. Unbelievable and not sporting at all. I have literally watched "hunters" at a release site have to literally physically kick a bird off the ground to get him to fly up, and then be shot from 10 feet with #3s. But this is more sporting than ground pounding, I am told???
