  1. Thanks jdangler, do you find that the one shoulder you have it slung over gets sore by the end of the day? Uber - sent you a PM.
  2. Thanks Angler. That's the thing, there's days I can get by with the shorts and shirt pockets and then there's days a guy needs to be ready for it to get ugly I just did some more research and came across the fishpond wildhorse pack, I think that might be what I'm looking for.
  3. Hey all. I have a question and moreso asking for opinions on what you use/prefer when you're on the water. Used to use a vest, then when I started going for longer days and thus requiring more gear like lunches, hydration bladder, jacket, etc. I switched to a backpack. Recently after I get off the water my neck and back are sore, it used to happen with the vest ocassionaly too. Anyone have any suggestions what I might look into next? I have noticed more of these fanny pack looking solutions around but have been out of the market for so long. Something comfortable that doesn't inhibit mobility especially when bushwacking through dence spruce forest I somehow find myself in oh so often. I was looking at the fishpond piney creek tech pack the other day but didn't pull the trigger quite yet.I like the idea of combining the vest and backpack into one, but either the front of the vest doesn't have what I'm looking for or the back "pack"part isnt big enough to hold a hydration bladder, bagged lunch, can of beer or two and a jacket/misc gear. Let me know fellas. Budget is not really an object on this as being comfortable while having everything you need cannot have a price put on it.
  4. ^ this. BiggyJ hit it on the head. Get two different subspecies and you are set.
  5. You're probably right. For a few years there you were getting two (similar to the supplemental antlerless whitetail deal). And IIRC some zones in east central Alberta were three tags for that draw. I'd never be hurting that much for meat that I'd need to kill 2, nevermind 3 of those smelly things!
  6. If you spend a lot of time in the bush and really need cell coverage look into getting a signal booster for your truck. Any of the communications shop sell them, mostly used in oilfield, forestry, etc. they work well, I can get service (albeit 1, maybe 2 bars) along that section of the trunk road in most areas.
  7. Would gladly pay a little more for the tried and true, nearly-flawless system though. ScottN, it should be good pickins for the muley does down in that neck of the woods this fall. I have been working down there a bit and seeing lots of them, all the fawns look super healthy. Are they still giving out that tag in 2's or just the singles again?
  8. Well I got drawn originally for turkey with a P7 for the upcoming spring season and then last week received a lovely phone call from NEW YORK STATE (Apparently our new hunting and fishing licence management system is headquartered out of there) notifying me that there was an "unforseen" error in the computers and 93 turkey draws were awarded that should not have been, and that I was NOT a winner of the draw this year. This new system is really pissing me off... Like first off the fishing licence on an entire 8x11 sheet of paper. Real convenient to fit in the wallet. Then I buy walleye tags for pigeon lk, the new tags DONT EVEN HAVE ANY INFORMATION PRINTED ON THEM. They just give you a blank tag with a #, and then, you guessed it, another 8.5x11 printout and you yourself have to fill in all the info... I can just see all the problems and guys taking advantage of this if the hunting tags are like this too... Oh, still waiting to hear about trophy antelope. 11 years is probably not enough, I guess. What was wrong with using IBM? If it ain't broke don't fix it.
  9. You guys make good points. Absolutely it is a good price.I was just curious as to what the cost was, it doesn't show anything except: Rod Repair...........$50 Shipping...............$10 Whilst reading your post, bcube, I agree. Shipping will be more, that quote probably assumes I live in the main 48.
  10. So, snapped the end of a sage flight (which I believe is discontinued now??) and they want $60?! $10 for shipping and the other $50 is for... WTF?? Guys....
  11. X2 brother. This isn't one of these things that they think they can fix later, though they probably do think it.
  12. It's usually good this time of year and there is a ton of fish in that stretch. PMDs, adams, light rod, you'l have a good time. My old stomping grounds
  13. I wear a 12-13-14 depending on brand. I wore a 14 korkers but simms I wear a 13 and it fits perfectly with the booty on the wader - wet wading i wear wool socks, some guys buy those neoprene socks. A tiny tiny bit of room but not enough that you're goona slam your toes with every step. In conclusion, I would suggest getting one size larger. The beauty thing with Cabelas and probably some local shops is you can exchange them if they don't fit. Always a gamble buying footwear online but I think I've got it down now.
  14. Muffin, I thought that would be the cats ass when I bought mine too - Never ever used the vibram once, and make sure the soles are aways on tight. Lost a felt sole once off one boot while I was fishing and didn't notice til it was probably a few kms downstream. You can imagine what a bitch it was trying to get a hold of korkers mfg and asking for one left omni-trax felt sole in a 14. LOL.
  15. I'm not the kind of person to do this but I'll be damned if these aren't the best set of wading boots I've owned thus far. Ordered 'em up from Cabelas in WPG in April, probably got 20 days on 'em so far, and they are comfortable, durable, look good, feel good, and grip very well. (Felt bottom). Just wanted to let anyone know if they are looking for new boots that these are HIGHLY recommended and I paid less than 125 shipped to my door from Winnipeg (a fair bit better than the shops local to me, and cowtown). Awesome Awesome product, they are built far better than the Korkers I struggled with for the last three seasons, seams all coming apart, laces breaking, soles wearing too fast, etc.
  16. Made the edit, what I meant to say was that I went to school and stuided environmental science. Not an english major, I guess! Diploma in natural resource management.
  17. Does anyone know of any leads for a guy with an environmental & natural resources background, with oilfield and environmental experience. Alberta born and raised, hard worker, not scared to be away from home or get dirty.
  18. I'm pretty sure that beer is aptly named. Tastes like the pizz from a ruttin elk!
  19. You guys have hit it all on the head. I random camp too, but I do it in a respectful way. Anyways, kind of an unrelated side note, but have you guys wondered maybe why so many people random camp? Apart from the no ATVs allowed thing, i think a big driver is the cost of campgrounds. It is absolutely ridiculous how this province manages its campgrounds. cant even use the word manage. they contract everything out so that guys can charge what they want. i know for example down in said area, of course im goona camp along the livingstone for free compared to paying 23+ bucks a night for a site in a campground with NO POWER, NO WATER, AND NO FIREWOOD INCLUDED. i personally have a friend who operates a large campground, government owned, but he is the operator, in the rocky mountain house vicinity, who clears, thats right, clears, over 150k a year in profit on firewood sales alone. something is not right here guys, i know its sort of beside the whole topic at hand but maybe if some things were done about this issue as well, that things may improve slightly in terms of wild places being more protected. tried having this discussion with an employee of SRD, oh excuse my french, now ESRD. dont even get me started on that....
  20. PS I quite enjoy that run the fellow is fishing for dry flies. Nailed a few really nice browns out of there earlier this spring! Cheers
  21. WOW pepper!! That is just an absolutely phenomenal photo of that wood duck! Do you see many in the area?? Seen some harlequins for the first time in my life in Pincher Creek country this spring. AWESOME!
  22. I am rockin the fishcat 4 monger! I love it to death. Quite interesting! Thanks for the link! Have zipper waders and always dribble lol What the hell are you talking about now? Is this because I called you out the other day about the eagle?
  23. im sure this has been discussed before, especially in this time of wo when the cricks are virtually unfishable, and many find themselves fishing stillwaters, or tying dries like a mother i suppose. does anyone else often ponder on a more efficient way to whiz out of your float tube without going to shore? am thinking of inventing a beer bong of sorts, or might just hang my head in shame and wear a diaper.
  24. Fully agree with the nature of bob edens ideas on the red deer, although the paid harvest of a trout?? not too sure. walleye could definitely sustain a very strictly managed harvest on the system though, without a doubt.

    Gopro Fun

Uberfly, absolutely no need for that. fully agree it is getting tiresome seeing you complain and trying to stir the pot, i think your attitude is due to the fact that you were jealous to not have the opportunity to be present for this. maybe think about this for a minute, better the eagle eats a fish that he caught that may suffer a mortality if he tried to release it, then the eagle taking a completely healthy fish out of the lake. monger has it right, good recycling. seriously, its alot easier to be nice then to be an ***hole, and what goes around always comes around. GREAT VIDEO STEIN!!
